Title: Maps
Post by: Tinpot on October 15, 2004, 11:58:13 AM
A plea to Hitech

Can we have some new maps? I'm getting awfully tired of flying over the same terrain.

What about a winter war map with more weather?

Just an idea. keeping my fingers crossed!

Please can we have an out of cockpit view on fighters too! I know its not to realistic but it is a game after all. Also I could enjoy the new skins more!  Thanks i you are listening.

Ok aint gonna happen!

So tell me why. Can you actualy explain to me a good reason why not? Seems bloody stupid that you can get it in other arenas and on bombers. What the hell is the point of that. (Your dismissive reply is a touch rude by the way)

HTC likes to keep a certain level of realism.  They try to find a balance between fun and realistic.  External views on a fighter give a huge advantage, and are very unrealistic.

External views on bombers are unrealistic, but it would be very difficult to spot enemy fighters without it.

As I said, its all a balance.

they had exturnal views when AH came out they even had it for GVs but exturnal for fighters and GVs are dumb and the other arenas ur talkin bout is the "Training Arena" thats y they have it in there the name explains everything. i guess ur kinda new cuz there is about 10+ posts say that they are making new maps but are having a hard time cuz all the bugs arent worked out. version 2.01 is about 1 1/2 from comin out they might have some of the stuff worked out. and yes there are winter maps and desert maps u just gatta hold on when that stoped AH1 and came out with AH2 some things got messed up IMO i think HTC will have everything worked out by Jan.2005 if not sooner. just sit tight and let HTC do its thing

You can build your own terrain.

You can download the terrain editor here: http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AH2EDIT2006.EXE

More information is available on the Terrain Editor forum: http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=61

If yah want new maps....make one. All the tools and knowledge are readily available. Frankly, if I can make a map....any clueless, dipwad can. To paraphrase He-man...."YOU have the power!". :)

BTW, I mostly only get bored when people complain about things that THEY have the power to fix. :D

Isnt so much the maps themselves as much as the way the terrain looks imho
Im some ways I actaully think the look of the terrain looked better in AHI as opposed to AHII

Number 1/ I pay for this site!!! Why should I pay to do the work myself? I'm not sure I get that one at all. must look into that game. Maybe I could set up a motorcycle garage where people pay me so that they can fix their own bikes !!!! Come on you guys can't be serious. Over here we call that "being a bloody mug!"

Number 2 / Not all of us are here to spend hours fiddling about with things. Or have the computer power to be able to. I thought it was a game, not an alternative reality! I just wanna come and play a fun game with others for a bit of R+R . I'm a fully rounded adult male of fast approaching middle age with an interest in WW2 military aviation not an obsessed teenager! I do have a full life outside of this computer.

Number3 / what on earth is wrong with posting more than once. No point posting if people don't reply so I thought I'd provoke a response. Happy to say I got one.

Number 4 / ....... Oh that'll do , got other stuff to be doing.:)

Actually that idea has merit.

I remember back in the 70's a bunch of such places cropped up.

they supplied the garage and  all the tools and you paid them for the use

Were fairly successful too.

Hardly, you pay to play the game. If you are not happy with the maps, you (note I said "YOU") have the option to do something about it. Unlike other games in this genre, users can actually impact the game.

Sorry, but, I really have little sympathy for whines on this subject. I've been doing this sort of thing for years and I really don't get the "McDonalds" generation's lack of an attention span. This game has more terrain variety than any similar game ever has (add in the terrains available in the CT and the variety shoots out of sight). Yet, people continue to whine for more terrains. Oh well, I guess some folks should just go get another Happy Meal and wait for the next episode of TeleTubbies.

You get the idea Tinpot?  If you ask for more maps you are a McD generation whiner and we have no simpathy for your kind.  I am surprized he told you to get a happy meal instead of canceling your account.

Did you even bother reading the original post or did you just see this as a flame opportunity?  Talk about lack of attention span.  You could not take the time read or comprehent the post but you had plenty of time for name calling.  Read it again and tell how that is a whine?

Sorry, but, I really have little sympathy for people like you. I've been doing this sort of thing for years and I really don't get the non "McDonalds" generation's lack of respect towards other people and their opinions, and their know everything attitude.

Well didn't I just stir up a wasps nest.

Look I'm here cos its fun to play.

Ok so I wan't new maps. terrible sin! Oh me oh my!

For the record I don't particularly like McDonalds form of cultural imperialism. But lets not take that one further or the wasps nest might get nasty.

I don't think being a paying customer I ought to do all the work. But I also know that I don't have to, and there are good people who do it because they want to / have the time to ok!

Please understand that there are many people playing online games. ( beats sitting glued to the one eyed god in the corner of the room ) Not all of us are computer whizzkids, game developers or have hours to spend making new maps etc or in my case even know how to!!! Sorry but I'm just a paying punter who wants to play a game!

I think there is room for us all as long as one type of player doesn't expect all the other players to be the same. And why can't we ask for something from time to time! I'm not whining just asking for new maps and I don't think that is a sin do you?

I hope this place in cyber space isn't filled with intolerant people like those that replied to this because if it is I find it a bit off putting.

Righto thats it I'm off to play this GAME for a bit of fun and the enjoyment of meeting and playing alongside online people from all over this cyber shrinking world.

Cheerio.

( phew, don't think I'll ask for anything again! Going to put cream on those wasp stings lol )

2 thumbs up, Tinpot! WTG!
I even got yelled at in the MA once I just openly asked if there might be a new map out anytime soon.
I'll might even start looking into creating maps but I also think it's odd that we could create a map but can't actually influence the rules of this game, which is as you might find out, controlled by some so called 'veterans' who hang around in this game for ages.

Summary: Don't ask in the bb for maps and don't even think about asking this in the MA. Only the 'veterans' have permission to ask and to yell at others.

looking back, he never once taught me anything about roller skating.

Keep in mind that the enjoyment of this game is not necessarilly restricted to clicking "fly" killing stuff and racking up a good score.

Here you have something that is rare in an online flightsim. The ability to contribute your ideas, your creations to the betterment of the game.

Some do it by training, some by scenario design. Some build terrains and some paint planes.

All of those options are available in this game because of the way it has been designed. Player input is a wonderful option that enhances the game for the contributing player and the players that "use" his or her's contribution.

Those that contribute do it for the enjoyment of the game.

If the game and the large group of contributers aren't doing it fast enough for you, then McDonald's is an option.

There is far more available to you here than meets the eye.

Just gotta open them.

The titles that have a permanent home on my hard drive all have one thing in common; they look nothing like the original release.  I am always awed and humbled by the communities' talents to add, improve and delight.

I am greatful that HTC is a company that actively encourages customers to make their mark on the game.  Personally I would prefer them to continue tweaking the engine, introducing new models etc and leave it up to the talent out there for making skins and maps.

I heartily agree. Don't think we are here to be yelled at, accused of some non existant infraction, crass selfishness, etc etc by the " senior !?" members. I came here to play a game for fun and I think you guys did too. Pity you left August old mate but to be honest I might just too if this is realy what this thing is all about.

First off, it is more of a "Simulation" than a "Game".  Look up the word in the dictionary if you would like the true meaning.  Some of us look upon AH2 alot differently than you.  To you its a nice relaxing event.  For some of us its more like a religion... one that is taken more seriously than dinking around with planes WWII planes.

Enough said, HTC wants to keep some realism to the game however they have completely gone over the edge with the ENY restriction aswell as some other topics which I won't discuss - i could go on for hours about it.

Just feel strongly that being told I'm a whiner or some selfish dolt for asking a question is not realy very fair just because I'm here for a different reason to you guys.

Over and Out I'll end my contribution at that.

Anybody noticed how the McD generation did not attack anybody even after half of the people in here started the attacks and the name calling?

Here is a guy new in the game, proly young, thinking he is asking a simple question to HT.  HTs reply to the customer was to check the forum rules.  A simple yes/no was not possible.  The answer from some of the older wiser vets was, well read the above posts.

He is learning a lot from us the older, the wiser, the vets.  How is the game play lattely in MA?  Those new guys are surely destroing it.

Wondering why the thread is not locked yet for flaiming and personal attacks.  Oh, wait aminute, someone is being flaimed about 'complaining about the game.'  Thats OK I guess.

I think I am done with this BB-BS.  See ya in the game

Ok I realy will burger off after this .

Seriously though how can it be said new players are destroying the game! New players are whats needed. Don't put us all off! lol.
Otherwise the game will die out like so many others.

Who'd have thought that a simple question would start such a huge heated debate?

Still thats healthy I guess.

Just for the record I'm 37!!!! and not of the McDonalds generation I'm English and was bought up on fish and chips and curry! lol.

I'll end where I started.

As I have now learned you are out there,  could someone with the skill time etc come up with a few new interesting maps. I would appreciate it and am sure others would to. Thanks.

Have fun in the virtual skies guys

Check your meds. I was the only one that made any post that could in any way be termed an "attack".

OH MY COD!!! I said someone eats McDonalds Happy Meals and watches a children's TV show!!! I should be drawn and quartered!!!  Get a grip.

Tinpot...

The comment had nothing to do with McDonalds as a corprate entity. It was about short attention spans and how many of their customers (mostly the 4 to 10 year old ones) suffer from this malady. Please note, no where did I specifically name you or any other user. The comment was a general one and should be taken as such. Frankly, anyone that took offense, might want to take a look at themselves instead of complaining about me. :)
