WASHINGTON (AP) -- At least seven former prisoners of the United States at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been involved in terrorist acts, despite gaining their freedom by signing pledges to renounce violence, according to the Pentagon.
At least two are believed to have died in fighting in Afghanistan, and a third was recaptured during a raid of a suspected training camp in Afghanistan, Lt. Cmdr. Flex Plexico, a Pentagon spokesman, said last week. Others are at large.
The seven were among 203 detainees released from the prison at the U.S. naval base on Cuba's southeastern tip since it opened in early 2002.
Of those, 146 were let go only after U.S. officials determined they no longer posed threats and had no remaining intelligence value.
The other 57 prisoners were transferred to the custody of their home governments: 29 to Pakistan; seven to Russia; five each to Morocco and Britain; four each to France and Saudi Arabia; and one each to Spain, Sweden and Denmark, the Pentagon said.
About 540 detainees are still being held at Guantanamo Bay and the review process continues. The last release of prisoners occurred on September 22 with the release of 11.

yes and the wonderful bleeding heart liberals amongst us are worried about "detainees disappearing into the underworld of Gitmo, never to reappear...oh the horror" all to save the rights of a few remotely possibly innocent people.
You see, it is better to save one innocent man then to destroy ninety nine really bad islamo facists, but the real tragedy is that just one of those islamo-facists will be released to protect a free man wrongly accused and then that freed islamo-facist will go on to detonate a nuclear warhead in London, Washington DC, Madrid....and millions of innocents will die.
In my opinion, one hundred innocent deaths to save two billion innocent lives is a price that free men must pay, its part of the deal.
Why should the rights of one destroy the lives of all?

Innocent until proven guilty. That's the key. Our enemies persecute their own people and lock them up on nothing more than suspicion. Is that what you want for America?
Take the high road. Sure, we may suffer for it, but in the long run, to do any less is not American.

I'm all for taking the "high road" but which is it? Turning terrorists loose to commit atrocities once again doesn't seem like much of a high road to me.
