Fool me once, erhm... can't get fooled again...I love it. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041020/ap_on_el_pr/kerry_day_after_strategy)
By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer :
===================
Six so-called "SWAT teams" of lawyers and political operatives will be situated around the country with fueled-up jets awaiting Kerry's orders to speed to a battleground state. The teams have been told to be ready to fly on the evening of the election to begin mounting legal and political fights. Every battleground state will have a SWAT team within an hour of its borders.
The Kerry campaign has recount office space in every battleground state, with plans so detailed they include the number of staplers and coffee machines needed to mount legal challenges.
"Right now, we have 10,000 lawyers out in the battleground states on Election Day, and that number is growing by the day," said Michael Whouley, a Kerry confidant who is running election operations at the Democratic National Committee.
While the lawyers litigate, political operatives will try to shape public perception. Their goal would be to persuade voters that Kerry has the best claim to the presidency and that Republicans are trying to steal it.
Democrats are already laying the public relations groundwork by pointing to every possible voting irregularity before the Nov. 2 election and accusing Republicans of wrongdoing.
On Election Day, Whouley will head the so-called "boiler room," probably in Washington, that tracks vote counts and ensures Kerry doesn't concede too soon. Whouley was the aide who, after noticing Florida was too close to call in 2000, called Gore's team in Tennessee and told them to put the brakes on the concession speech.

Rove - put yer man on a plane to Iraq. Cuz you aint gonna get away with squat.

question::: how many recounts are they going to ask for this time?
answer::: as many as it takes to "win".
-
Preparing to lose is a good idea, preparing to cause legal havoc as some type of screwing the system and throwing a fit is just assnine.
dago
-
Assinine?
What's with all teh ghey crap tonight?...
Neways, it ain't about screwing the system, it's about not allowing themselves to get screwed.
I think it's great.
-
Looks like they are expecting to lose and then be poor losers.
Too bad that Kerry and the demos don't have the class Nixon had in 1960. Yeah that's right, "Nixon" and "class" in the same sentence.
At least in that election Nixon had the class to put the country first, even if he thought he was wronged.
here is some background (http://http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1015074.stm)
-
come on nash, the democrats tryed to change the election laws in fla AFTER the election in 2000, they will try to do it again, you don't have 10,000 lawyers on the payrole for nothing.
-
They aren't expecting to lose.
They are expecting to win, but then immediately get screwed up the assinine.
Forget the legalese - these lawyers are butt shields.
-
As there are just as many Demos running local precincts as Repubs, I think that 'stealing' the election is unlikely.
For those of you who think that 2000 was stolen, you're wrong. Bush won the electoral vote.
>[whine]"But Gore won the popular vote"[/whine]
The Yankees scored more runs than the Red Sox in the last 7 games. Red Sox are going to the WS. Gonna complain about that too?

Complain about that? Hell no....
All that needs to happen now is for the Packers to win on Halloween and y'all might as well not even bother holding an election.

Butt-shieds? How many tulips does Kerry have, anyway?
I bet if he could only get all 10,000 to actually vote for him, he'd have a better chance of winning. Sadly, unless these guys are all first year associates, or government-employed robots, they're all probably making too much to ever vote for a democrat.
Either way I think it's a waste of money. Chances are the election isn't going to be so razor close as to justify legal intervention, much less legal intervention that could cost hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars.
I praise Kerry's initiative though. He's willing to throw so much money into a precautionary step just in case the election is close. Imagine how efficiently he'll run the country if he actually gets his 10,000 anuses into the oval office.
-
Guess I better be more obvious as to the parallel.
By the rules of the games as set before the contests, even though they were both outscored, both GWBush and the Red Sox won their respective contests.

No need. I got it.
I think, as Neubob just said; "Chances are the election isn't going to be so razor close as to justify legal intervention..."
Ya just never know nowadays though. It's incredible. Are November elections and December decisions the new normal?
-
I fear that Gore opened a pandora's box.
-
Pandoras box it was.
Blame? Shared.
-
AFAIK, the Republicans have their lawyers lined up and ready to go as well.

Imagine, if you will, this scene:
A fish tank, 9 pm, Portland Oregon.
It is midnight on the East coast. Anchormen and women pulling their hair out. Struggling to find something left unsaid to say.
An elderly woman, the last voter in America, walks up to the fish tank with her ballot.
Inside the tank, circle two dozen pirahnas that haven't been fed since the Sox win.
Clutching her ballot, she dips her hand into the tank.

being prepared to protect yourself isn't asinine, it's preparation.
Bush managed to take it last time.
If Bush loses with a remotely close count I expect he'll refuse to leave the Whitehouse. just sit there like some crazy squatter, while he files court case after court case. who knows, maybe he can work the courts enough to drag it out and pick up a 3rd term.

she'll more likely be the first voter in America.
(we mail ours in. some here voted as early as last Saturday.) ;)

They both have armies of lawyers ready "just in case"
but the strangest turn I've heard yet is a plan that if the election is close Kerry will declare himself the winner even if Bush gets more electoral college votes.
This gets much worse we may end up needing the UN to monitor OUR elections
-
NASH,
Truth be told the left would not have given a watermelon about black voter "disenfranchisment" in florida2000 if gore had won.
That to me tells me they'd to anything to win even exploit minoritys! If somones rights are being infringed apon shouldnt you act out of justice????????
EVERY RECOUNT IN FLORIDA CIRCA 2000 ELECTION SHOWED THAT BUSH WON! THAT ELECTION WAS NOT STOLEN THIS IS FACT.
Now....not only are we entrusting our lives and wellbeing to the politicians....but also their lawyers. This to me is asnine. "Freedom needs a lawyer"
"give me your tired, your hungry, your weak.....but talk to my lawyer first"
Sorry lawyers of this board (Dunes one IRRC) but your peers are scum ON BOTH SIDES!
These are the same types of people that convicned a jury that a property owner is liable because a robber fell through a skylight, breaking a few bones, while robbing them.

Couldn't possibly happen. Oregon is a (the) vote by mail state.

Okay, that makes every one of us misspelling the word 'asinine'.
I would be kidding myself if I tried to avoid assigning some greater meaning to it. And I think I have found it.
ASS-9, America decides 2004.
-
Does anyone else remember Gore's mantra "every vote must count" while, on the other hand, insisting that only democratic counties be recounted. They also tried to throw out military absente ballets......while insisting "every vote must be counted"
The dems also tried to bypass Florida's established laws regarding recounts.
I blame Gore and the democrats for opening the Pandoras box.
-
That's sooooo two-thousand.
-
Just the facts.
This year, did you know that Ohio has some county with more registered voters than the population? The majority are registered as Dems. Where is the Kerry SWAT team?
Some guy was caught registering 40 or so times and was paid for each registration by a dem "get out the vote" group.
I beleive that Kerry will lose so big that his swat team will be of no use.
-
Nuke, you wanna compare notes?
I don't.
I can... but I don't wanna. Lets just say weirdness is everywhere.
-
I'm too tired to play ..... just got home from a long day at work. Had to visit Yuma, Az even. :)
-
You think that having to visit Yuma Arizona is bad? I had to visit, like, 17th street... and then, like 3rd Ave... then 6th.
A fiasco.
Nah... playing here is just for kicks.
You have multitudes of folks glued to I don't know what... posting watermelon here within milliseconds of it being puked up by whatever 'news' outlet.
Meanwhile, even crazier watermelon is going on. In fact, for every two you got, I got four. At least.
Nobody on my team can be arsed to post it, however. G'bless them.
I totally understand why. It's like someone else's party here. Yer not gonna spill yer drink on their carpet and complain about it.
I got a bad thing going with the hand/eye. I tend to spill my drink.
Still... This BBS is insular... a comfy place to be if you like monkeying around. Not so comfy if shocking the monkey is yer bag.
So... anyways.... whatever....
I'm unable to think of any words to accurately describe how UNLIKE the real world that this BBS is. How it so does not reflect reality.
It is hella fun though - don't get me wrong.
But like, don't be thinking for a second that any wool is getting pulled over anyone's eyes here. That's a funny thought. And no matter how many late-breaking-Fox-gambits arise, I am carving ice with eskimos and the sheep are somewhere in Africa.

[SIGH]
I started to get upset that so many still think that the last election was 'stolen'.
But I realized that the people that have spent four years fuming about this without taking the time to find out what really happened, why it happened, and the laws around it that made it happen, are not worth the wrinkles.
The ones that applaud the preperation to subject this country to another display of sophomoric behaviour by a group that is supposed to be a respectable representative of the people of this country are what is wrong with this country.
And that country too.

NASH.....you have shocked me tonite....and yes my spelling suckes....especially when I'm granted a much deserved day off so I start saluting the Capt Morgan.
WHEN HAVE YOU BEEN TO YUMA ARIZONA?
that's my old stomping ground. I was infamamous there for a milisecond! Seriously, I plan to retire there.....unless I find some small northern montana town w/ good values and DSL! ;)
PS Yuma, AZ aint bad people at all. They are good hard working Americans. Most of them would like to stay in the town and find a good job to live well off there. Aside from all the snowbirds from Canada and Oregon winter there is Great!

The Nixon/Al gore Pandoras box hit the nail on the head. Al Gore was so lacking in respect for the system (and our country), that he threw away several hundred years of tradition (that of course being not being labled a crybaby, and to drag the nation through 6months of heck recounting the votes). Nixon coulda' done it way back, but had too much respect. His and Kennedy's race was within 100k or so votes. Strange stuff happened during that election, like Kennedy loosing 90% of the counties in Ill, but WINNING it by 8k votes. (cough Mob). So why didn't Nixon whine and moan like Gore (and soon to be Kerry) did? Respect. Respect for the office of the President. I feel that is also why he stepped down (cough Clinton), during the Watergate scandal. I'm not sure where we lost that respect for such things, but it is too bad; it was one of the things that made us "great".
We don't need the Supreme Court dictating WHO our president is, which is the eventual outcome if we start throwing so many laywers around. IF you win, fine. If you lose, also fine. The system works. The fact that Kerry is going to choose a cabinet even if he doesn't get the electoral votes speaks volumes for his character or lack thereof.
Anyhoo...... It won't be that close I think, and I predict Bush will pull it out by a good 5% popular, and plenty o' electoral votes.
p.s. asinine

Lawyers and Democrats, made for each other.

Gore certainly made the history books in unique fashion...the first presidential candidate to ever take back a concession. His campaign was also the first to file legal proceedings to contest presidential election results.
Of course, Gore was fully justified in both actions.
Bush was way out of line when he refused to accept the ruling of the heavily democratic State Supreme Court of Florida and appealed its recount decision to the heavily republican U.S. Supreme Court.
That dirty low-life! How DARE he stand up for himself!

Why, I'd write to my local ombudsman and press for the immediate sealing of the border.

No biggie. I'll just be chillin'...
Kickin' it with my bad self in my crib with my homies. In my hood.
Keeping it real, as it were. :)

again nash shows the difference between the left and everyone else. I think this will hurt the democrats more than about anything they could do. I think the lefties feel that "the end justifies the means" ideal they live by is embraced by the rank and file American...
I think they are wrong... I think they misscalculated.

Dems will need more than six swat teams if they want to challenge every state lost to the Reps. Don't be surprised if the election is not nearly as close as the liberal media agitation to keep everyone hyped.

Exactly my thought when I read it. I couldn't believe someone actually wrote "I love it" re:.
-
nash... do you really think this is a good thing? Every recount ever done in Florida essentially said that the first count was the most accurate.
Doesn't it become more likely that there will be errors the more time the votes are counted or.... is that what you are counting on?
do you stop the counting when the error swings your way or do you do a recount when the then loser feels that it was too close to give up..... and on and on...
Some states have laws that demand recounts if it is within a certain percentage... some states do not.... Gore won a few states by razor thin margins.... margins that would have tripped Floridas recount automation.... Should Bush have been asking for endless recounts in those states till he got the results he wanted?
should the election be decided by who has the most clever lawyers or the most state judges in their pockets?
