Title: Problem with X45? Remove the spring!
Post by: RTSigma on October 21, 2004, 12:32:15 PM
Yep!

I gave it a whirl in a fit of disgust with the horrible amount of friction I was getting, sometimes unable to break free to manuever from center.

So, I took the joystick screws out(theres 5) and carefully removed the left side of the handle. I slid the joystick up a little bit, careful not to pull any wires out.

Now take the spring and remove it like a keyring over the wire and tape. CAREFULLY do it.

put it all back together (remember to put the stick down more as it'll be lose from the shaft and you'll get NO control.

Now the joystick doesn't center, and it flops around a little bit. Much like a REAL stick. You need a steady hand and trust in your movements. But, there is no tension to fight, no worry of friction.

Give it a try for you Saitekers, but I recommend training a little bit with some basic manuevers before moving on to more advanced craft.

I might post pictures once I find time.

Or you could just use silicone lubricants...

Tried those.

Still had no luck with those.

Tried Silicone Lubricant High Viscosity. Tried plumber grease. Tried KY.

No go.
