Not shure if I need to upgrade for some more ram. But since the patch will allow cards that dont support T&L I can play it. I just cant download that big 80 mb Dl. anybody got it on a cd they can send to me?
Dell dim 2400
128mb ram
intel celeron 2.4ghz
Intel extrme 3d graphics(32mb)

It would take 2 days to get there... If you connect can't download 80 megs in 2 days you need to trade in the 9600 baud modem for something faster. LOL

can i take a 258mb ram card out of an old HP and insert it into a newer model of HP that already has 512mb?

There are lots of factors to take into concideration when it comes to adding a stick of ram in combination with an already existing stick of ram.
I wont get into any of them.

Just to add a word of caution to what the others already said. Watch for blue screen errors after adding the 256. That is the sign that the missmatch is causing small errors that over time could corrupt data on your harddrive. Generally speaking the faster the RAM speed(ie pc100, pc133, 3200ddr), the less likely that you would be able to run unmatched RAM.

the only ram now days that you need to run in pairs is Rambus. Everything else doesnt have to be matched at all. All he really needs to make sure of is if they are the same type. Its a pretty safe bet that 2.4 Celeron uses DDR memory. If thats the case, You need to make sure the ram comming out of your other computer is DDR and that it is rated at least as fast as the existing ram.

This is true BigR, there are only a few Chipsets around that you MUST run matched pairs of RAM. But as Morph pointed out, there are many factors when mixing RAM, and its not a givin that a combination of RAM sticks will work error free over the long hull.

found out after digging through the computer that i already have 2 258mb ram cards in the computer. i should be able to get 2 512mb cards as long as they are both PC2700 DDR SDRAM.... right?

as long as its single channel set up of ddr ram you can add similar speed sticks , size doesnt matter.
AE....
512 2700 ddr and a 256 2700 ddr will work fine in most pc's
if you mix a 512 2100 ddr and a 512 2700 ddr you will be limited to the speed of the 2100 ddr stick.
you can not mix sdram and ddr type rams though .
and if your running Duel channel you its best to have the exact same brand,type, size,and speed installed.
If you get tons of "Beeps" at boot up that ussually means the ram isnt right . (its ussually 1 long beep then alot of short beeps)

Hmmmmm, I`m just running on 256 and I get a pretty solid 85 fps. It will drop some, not much, at mission launchs , etc.

Ooooops, I spoke a little prematurely on my FPS I guess. Been so long since I had seen the Totoland map I had forgotten. It`s a real frame rate eater. Averaging around 45 fps on it.

This is not true.
Do what you want. But I strongly recomend you match ram. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of factors that must be taken into concideration here by just tossing in another stick of ram. Its so much easier to just pick up a cheap set of matched 256 sticks than it is to have your system hang up on you and possibly lose data. And there is plenty of good cheap ram out there.
Again, you guys do what you think and want. You probably will anyways.

Shell out 700 dollar and get a system that handles ah2.
When you invest into your old system all money that you put in there is lost.
Now you ask which graphik usw... you already went through that, looking for a system you obviously cant afford.
Maybe you get away with getting 512mb ram and a 80$ graphics board in your system, but i wouldn t advise it. Its more or less wasted money.
I dont know what the 11 patch does, but running with less than 512MB memory wont really do it.
Also you can try and ask a friend who bought a new graphic card, maybe he gives you his old one.

Problem is.... after long hours of d/l....you usally get disconnected before the d/l is finished. At least that was always my experience with dial up.
BTW jetb....HTC has Cd,s now i think.

Anybody got a aceshigh cd? If so send me an e-mail plz. I will probaly buy more ram and a pci graphics card. I just hope my celeron will run good with it. If not I will just buy a cd for hitech.
