Title: Can anyone here help me with making a webpage?
Post by: Raptor on October 26, 2004, 09:50:09 PM
For my Civics class Im having to create a webpage for a major test grade, and well, I need help...
so far all I have been able to do is pick out a template to use and place a picture of Bush. I havent bothered with the text yet because I want to lay out what the site will look like before doing that.
Here is what it looks like... http://georgedubya.bravehost.com

In the template I chose I do not know how to get the buttons on the left side to work, I have created other pages for my website but do not know how to get the buttons to work.
The way Bravehost is set up I can work on it in visual editor (which looks like the webpage does right now) or I can work on it in Text Editor (which has to do with the html codes and all of that)
I do not know the first thing about html codes, and cant find a tutorial on bravehost thats any help to my problem.

I know in the text editor this is what each button looks like:

but I do not know what to change to make the button work to go to other pages.

help please!

Raptor, I don't mean this in a bad way, but it may be better to not use a template, but to build it up from text.  It will not be as "slick", perhaps, but it will illustrate that you know how to create a webpage.  If the goal is strictly design, then find a WYSIWYG editor and work in that.

Liz hates lazy people, but fortunately I identify with them.  WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get.  Basically you build a web page in a graphic/text editor type hooptey web site builder program.

Ok Raptor ... the above is just one script for one button that swaps when you mouse over and then links to  "ah2maps"

the script is one line long in html .

Roo's website (http://s90945482.onlinehome.us/roosite/)  so you can see how mine mouse over .

those are 2 different buttons (Created in psp8 )

These days I use dreamweaver MX ussually in "Design" mode ,instead of in html for most of my stuff (in other words i cheat )  Email me Rap and ill see what i can do ..  use Roscoroo@gmail.com  cause i'll have to look at what you have in code .   (How many days do you have btw ??? )

I think he plumb said it wrong

"what you see is what you get" meaning a graphical interface that allows you to see what you make.

You can make your whole site using any text editor, but that's not WYSIWG.

If the point of the course is website building (HTML), use a text editor.
If the point is websight design, use a WYSIWYG editor.

He means, for website design anyways, using a real program like Frontpage or Dreamweaver instead of bravenet's online template crap.

MSWord is a WYSIWYG editor.  Just do it in word and "save as" a webpage.

Put this on your page and see if your professor gets it.  Try and remove the collegehumor.com tag first.
