I wasnt aware that there was a "process".
I tought the "process" was dead. This move was an utter suprice for me atleast.

I think Isreal could give the pals everything they want, and the terrorist scum will still blow up Isrealis in suicide and other terror attacks.

My grandfather is Jewish and currently lives in Jerusalem, I was speaking to him when the news broke on this item, his reaction was "about bloody time"
.
He for one and some of his friends will be celebrating this news.
He also sent me an email that contained a link

There will never be peace w/ the Pal's as long as Israel exists.
The Pal's do not want peace. They want to kill Israeli's
-
If Israel pulls out from the occupied areas but Palestinians still continue their attacks they will lose their international support and I don't think any Palestinian politician would like that to happen; country needs western aid and losing that would hurt them bad.

Dont they have the wall in place in the West Bank? Have they not limited themselfs where they can build there?

let me guess.... you hear it on CNN right ?
Are you foolish enough to deny that this is not the goal of those Pal's in charge, even though they have said as much?
Aside: Does anyone actually watch CNN?

"Israel plans 1,000 more homes on West Bank
By Inigo Gilmore in Jerusalem
(Filed: 18/08/2004)
Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, has approved plans for a huge expansion of Jewish housing in the West Bank. Critics claimed it was part of his long-held plan to entrench the large settlement blocs and incorporate them into Israel.
Israel's housing ministry published tenders yesterday for the construction of 1,001 new homes in four West Bank settlements, including two of the largest, Ariel and Ma'ale Adumim. This followed reports that Israel had been expanding settlements over the past three months."

-
Uh oh... So Mr.Sharon is still continuing his "Lebensraum" plan and pulling out is just smoke and mirrors ?
-
On a side note, and in the hope to educate the numerous graduates from the Hollywood Manicheist Institute who firmly believe that Israel=good and Palestine=bad, I. Rabin was murdered by a radical right wing israeli. At this time, Intifada had stopped.
Intifada 2 began under the strong reign of Sharon. Food for thoughts.
-
Israel=good and Palestine=bad
Simplistic, but that about covers it.
-
Smart move I think.
Keeps the settlers from getting hit by all the friendly fire soon to come.
Warn those in Gaza to move back to Egypt.
Warn those in West Bank to move back to Jordan.
Turn Gaza and West Bank areas into parking lots in a few hours time.

err... Intifada 1 ended with the Oslo agreements. Rabin was still alive and buses were still exploding. Intifada 2 started under prime minister Ehud Barak and actually contributed to the election of Sharon.
Never expected him to make that decision.

As usual, Israel eventually does the right thing in the worst possible way and in a few decades delay.
Just think of all the boring news reports that would have been on CNN if Israel had peace and was not there to provide entertainment for the world. CNN would have to report about fluctuations of sheep population in New-Zealand.

Dov Weisglass is Sharon's advisor, and does most of his liasion with the White House.
Weisglass gave an interview to Haaretz recently, in which he said the Gaza disengagement is designed to strengthen the Israeli hold on the West Bank, to freeze the peace process, and to kill off any chance of a Palestinian state:
"The significance of the disengagement plan is the freezing of the peace process," Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's senior adviser Dov Weisglass has told Haaretz.
And when you freeze that process, you prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, and you prevent a discussion on the refugees, the borders and Jerusalem. Effectively, this whole package called the Palestinian state, with all that it entails, has been removed indefinitely from our agenda. And all this with authority and permission. All with a presidential blessing and the ratification of both houses of Congress."
Weisglass, who was one of the initiators of the disengagement plan, was speaking in an interview with Haaretz for the Friday Magazine.
"The disengagement is actually formaldehyde," he said. "It supplies the amount of formaldehyde that is necessary so there will not be a political process with the Palestinians."

The problem with that is if you look at the figures, Palestinian terrorism was dying out before the 6 day war and the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. It had gone from over 50 murders a year in the early and mid 50s to less than 10 by the mid 60s. It then shot right up after the occupation began, to over 70 a year, before falling again in the late 70s and 80s. It then really took off with the expansion of the settlements at the begining of the 90s.
If Israel had not occupied the West Bank and Gaza, Palestinian terrorism would have died out long ago.

Israel has been threatening this for awhile and I think it's a great idea. It forces the Pals to take responsibility for themselves and leaves them with less political ammo to use against Israel.
Great move and WTG Israel

I stand corrected about the begin of Intifada 2 and Barak. Is it wrong to say that Rabin was, on the israeli side, the man who ended the Intifada by signing the Oslo agreements?
A good analysis IMO is to be found here (http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Arab-Israeli_conflict).
