WASHINGTON — A U.S. Army officer came forward Friday to say a team from his 3rd Infantry Division took about 250 tons of munitions and other material from the Al-Qaqaa (search) arms-storage facility soon after Saddam Hussein's regime fell in April 2003.

Man, someone needs some better PR folks.

First they were missing, then they were never there, now this guy took 'em.

It just takes a quick huddle for everyone to get the story straight.

The Army still isnt done with its investigation, give them time to finish.

So far we have reports: (In no particular order)

1) ABC News team imbeded with 101st sees no explosives.

2) ABC News *finds* a video tape of the missing explosives. (Filmed by the crew that didnt *see any explosives*)

3) The Russians helped move them to Syria.

4) The US Army destroyed them.

5) They were looted by insurgents.

It's ALL speculation until the Army finishes its investigation. There might have been other reports, but these are the ones I recall off the top of my head.

I'm no fan of Bush, but I'm voting for him.  Kerry is far, far worse.

I guess we are at the point where everyday we wonder what "known false but has most dramatic impact" issue can the liberal media toss out to make Kerry look cunning.

So far, the NY Times has just gone on to blow a hole into their credibility...and Dan Rather's bunch is 0-2 now.

I almost wonder if the FCC steps into this sorta stuff when a news organization knowing spits out known falsehoods so close to an election?

I saw the press confrence they didnt "spin" anything

250 tons of munitions included munitions of all sorts of types Not just plastic explosives.

they made that pretty clear and put pretty good emphasis on that...several times

they did however point out though that if it was indeed 360 tons. ( there seem to be conflicting numbers now. None I might add from the US)
360 tons equates into 1/1000th of what they have destroyed to date

The 250 tons of munitions destroyed were not the same as the 380 tons reported missing.

The videos of the roadside bombs I have seen are powerful enough to send M1 tanks and M9 Paladins careening into the air.  There is no doubt in my mind that a large amount of explosives were captured by insurgents.

there seems to be conflicting reports and documents as to exactly how much was there to begin with.
One report claims 380 tons
one report claims only 100+ tons (forget the exact number)
And yet another one claims only 3 tons.

So at the moment we dont even know for sure exactly how much was really there. So even the amount is now in question

the 250 Tons of munitions destroyed by our forces only included "some" explosives but was not exclusive to those explosives.
now Munitions could be alot of different things. From bullets to plastic explosives.

I noticed several times a reporter was TRYING to get them to say that the 250 tons of munitions were 250 tons of these explosives in question. They did not at any point claim that all 250 tons destroyed was 250 tons of these explosives

What videos of roadside bombs would those be?
The only ones I've seen are after the explosion types with burned out and mangled cars and such.
I haven't seen any videos of explosions themselves to be able to draw that kind of conclusion.

and none of the videos I've seen of the aftermath would cause me to draw the conclusions you have

Just curious and maybe someone here who actually knows for sure can tell us.

Just how much explosives would it take to send a tank "Careening into the air"?

I'm sure insurgents even in a best case scenario would have been able to get their hands on a considerable amount of explosives considering just how much stuff was in the country to begin with. 380 tons from one location though and with our forces in and/or passing through the area constantly is just a bit of a stretch though.

Think about it. 380 tons is only about 1/1,000th of what our forces  have destroyed to date. Now 380 Tons is a VERY large amount for sure to multiply that amount by 1,000 is almost mind boggling.

And you saw those videos where, SEE BS? Do you have any idea how big a blast it would take to send an M1 Abrams tank flying through the air?

It would take an incredible amount of of explosives to create enough force to flip over an M1 Abrams, nevermind send it "careening into the air" and even then, you'd have to have the explosive between the Abrams and something at least three or four times as solid and heavy as the M1 Abrams to make the Abrams move instead of the opposing object.

They aren't even flipping the Hummv's over with those roadside bombs, get real. The injuries are from shrapnel, not from being crushed by vehicles flying through the air and landing on soldiers.

At least a good 90% of the attacks are simple car bombs made from artillery shells and such. Those and RPG's.
