Dear 81st,
I would like to invite all of the 81st to join me (FF1, Jr.) in a fly over to honor my father (FF1) on Saturday November 6th, 2004 at 8:00pm ET.
I have read all of the wonderful comments regarding my father and wish to say thanks to all of you, especially Murdr who did such a good job putting a face to a name. He loved this game.

EULOGY FOR JOSEPH A. HARDY, OCTOBER 30, 2004
Most of you here know that my brother, Joe, was an avid fisherman and an accomplished skier. What you might not know is:
That he was never heard to say that he was bored.
He was quite a practical joker, and you had to be particularly careful around him on April Fool's Day.
Was John and Angela's middle child and provided them with plenty of laughter, some anxiety and a great deal of joy through the years.
He was bitten by a horse when working at The Penn National Race Track.
His little sisters growing up called him "Go Go".
He just reminded Terri last Friday that it was the anniversary of their very first date 22 years ago.
When you went fishing with him, if you did not reel in the fish right, he would correct you.
He liked playing computer flying games, particularly "Ace's High".
He loved Tasty Cakes of all kinds.
Taught his daughter, Lindsey to swim, fish, ski and hoola hoop.
He owned a Classic MGC which everyone thought was an MGB. The MGC in his garage still needs a little work.
He ran track in high school.
He would have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast/lunch/dinner when Terri was out of town.
He attended 10 out of the last 11 Sandy Hollow Festivals.
He had built three computers and was working on his fourth.
He was an on-line stock trader.
He liked to say "there's always tomorrow" as an excuse for not accomplishing something today.
He had an extensive knowledge of the planes used in World War II, including their weapons and tactics.
He is credited by many people as being the originator of the word "HRRMPH".
He was in the early stages of planning another Hat Party.
As a young boy he was a paperboy of dubious renown.
Remembered a good bit of his high school French and would speak it at various inappropriate times.
Had a sister-in-law born in Turkey; a brother-in-law born in England; and a newly adopted niece born in China.
Attended 8 NASCAR races and at one race was able to sneak into the in-field and pit area without a badge.
Worked at Baskin Robbins.
Was robbed at gunpoint while working at the Elmerton Avenue 711.
When he was asked at pre-marital counseling how he envisioned his marriage to Terri to be, he replied that "it would be like one long Hershey Park ride."
He was extremely allergic to cats, and the cats always seemed to gravitate to him.
Unbeknownst to his father, if he was sent to his room as punishment which he thought was unfair he would take the light bulb out of the socket, stick a nickel in, and blow the fuse.
He worked as an air balancer for Johnson Control.
He especially enjoyed his mother-in-law Pat's secret homemade recipe for baked ham.
On the night that he died, he went outside with Ralph Cordova to look at the full moon.
Named his electrical business AETNA standing for Any Electrical Thing Needs Attention in order to get one of the first listings under Electricians in The Yellow Pages.
Represented the entire Hardy family as our sole representative to travel to England to be in attendance at his sister, Suzanne, and her husband, Matthew's wedding.
Moved to California in 1977 for eight months.
Was the building electrician for Strawberry Square and his boss was Ken Washburn.
Played softball for several years on the Mid-town Cafe team which won in 1987 Divisional Championship.
Owned a pontoon boat since 1990 which the entire family and numerous friends enjoyed tremendously.
Was a great-uncle twice over.
His Uncle Bill nicknamed him "Gripper Toes" as a child.
He lost his bet to me as who would live the longest.
Proposed to Terri in Stowe, Vermont, in the back of Jesse Stoner's van in the presence of Jesse, Cindy, Joe Solomon, Ralph, and Nita while they waited for the ice storm to abate.
Fell in the water while shark fishing off Dover, Delaware.
Had his picture taken more than one time by Preston Macky.
Was a former member of The Pink Turtle Boat Club.
Went on his honeymoon skiing in Whistler, Canada.
Held a Master Electrician License since 1981.
Would have voted for George Bush on November 2nd.
Was the Captain of the winning pontoon boat three years running at the Kapona Festival River Treasure Hunt.
Went on a skiing vacation to Austria with Mark and Shari Tamanini and Bill and Lynn Richards.
Worked as a custodian here at St. Margaret Mary's and cleaned this very church numerous times.
Taught his son, Joey, the theme song to Gilligan's Island.
Thought that Matt Schmitt one day would even surpass him as an expert fisherman.
For many years, never wore underwear.
Could roller skate backwards.
Was baptized, received his First Holy Communion, and was confirmed here in this very church.
Enjoyed golfing with his father-in-law, Bob, on his visits to Huntingdon.
Smoke cigarette for many years and one Monday morning he decided to quit and never smoked again.
Rafted down the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon on Memorial Day weekends with members of the Harrisburg Rugby Team and others on at least five occasions.
Was caught sneaking out of the house late at night with his cousin, Kevin, because when they returned to their surprise they found his mother and Kevin's aunt, sleeping in their bed.
Was an altar boy.
Rebuilt the motor to his large aluminum body electrician's truck while it was parked for four months on Plymouth Street.
Once visited his cousin, David, in San Francisco.
Never carried a wallet -- just put his driver's license, cash, and later a credit card in his pant's pocket.
He would jokingly chide his friends, "Are we having fun yet?"
Could do a fairly convincing English accent.
Attended several Grateful Dead concerts.
Had a tendency to wear his hats after they should have been retired.
Took many people to the top of the 333 Market Street Building, the tallest building in Pennsylvania between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
For many years, grew a beard in the winter, and cut it off in the spring.
Fell off his dirt bike when he was riding it on the yet unopened portion of Interstate 81 and broke his wrist.
Once drove non-stop from Harrisburg to New Orleans, LA, for Mardi Gras.
Had an uncanny sense of direction.
He played the piano.
As a boy knew all of the scheduled TV programs, but back then there were only four channels.
Spent many summers visiting with his Aunt Anita and Uncle Bill and his cousins in Silver Spring, MD.
Made several trips to Yankee Stadium with Joe, Mark and Jeff Schmitt.
Held season tickets for the Hershey Bears.
Was one of the first boys in high school to take the Home Economics Class and for the next 30 years he could always be counted on to make baked lasagna, yellowsheet cake and chocolate chip cookies.
Knew a cave near Marietta to go splunking in.
Always knew the current level of the Susquehanna River, and the five-day weather forecast.
And made one of the best decisions of his life when he married Terri.
WE SHALL NOT SAY THAT YOU ARE GONE
TOO FINAL IS THE SOUND
WE'LL SAY INSTEAD, YOU GONE AHEAD

Did anyone film this fly over, if so I really really need it.
-
Yes I did film it, but sorry I dont have access to it. I filmed it on FF1's 2nd machine (48 mins 5.XX Meg). His partner was going to work with it to make an avi.
-
Have him send it here (absolutedeal@yahoo.com) in AHF form and I will do it... They know what I am doing...

I am FF1's brother-in-law. I don't fly, but I hung out with FF1 Jr. and his family last weekend and watched the flyover. I was not the only one who was truely moved by the great turnout and all the nice comments people made about FF1. It was really appreciated by everyone there.
Special thanks to DEMAN for getting the word out and Murdr who showed up and flew alongside FF1 Jr. to help make sure everything went smoothly. I also gotta thank those few enemy pilots who risked joining that mass of green that was massed behind FF1's plane!
FF1 would have liked that you did that. It was cool.
I will make sure the vid gets sent to o0Stream140o when I go visit next.
