Title: Too Many Disco's, Not Enough Play Time
Post by: thndregg on October 30, 2004, 11:28:00 PM
Skuzzy, I just would like to know what else Flayd and I could do to possibly kill this disco problem I have.
     flaydONE went through the trouble of building my machine and getting everything set up so I could play.  We are both very puzzled as to why I keep disconnecting. We have done everything possible that we can think of to stop it, and to flayd's credit, he's no dummy when it comes to computers, he's built several and troubleshot others.
     I'm a technical dummy, so you might be better off to discuss my problem with him.
   I can tell you I have dial-up. My ISP is CMC.net. We've disabled any automatic updates we found. Auto-protect is shut off on my Norton Anti-Virus. My Net Status, I have observed, generally starts out somewhat flat-line, but after 5-10 minutes it "saw tooths" from 0 to1 second delay consistently until I lose UDP, or get disco'd off the game without any warning at all.
  We'd appreciate any help you could give us.  Thanks.

Weird, but worked on my laptop;

I'd get the same sawtooth, lost udp, etc.. on cable conx.

Limited the framerate to 60fps and was able to stay connected w/no sawtooth.

Not saying this is the answer, but worked for me on my LT.

Good Luck

I'll give the FR idea a shot and see what happens.  Yesterday after killing a 262 and a 190 in my KI67s, and just about to land when I disco'd, THAT p!ssed me off ROYAL!
   Again, thanks for the help.

did you run a ping plot to see if your line stinks? At least that way you could see if it was on your end, of in the lines.

Haven't run a plot yet. I did set up my comp at flaydone's house, used his line (he has the same ISP as me), and still I get the same net stat problem.  His comp, line, and game runs fine, relatively no problems. We exchanged our modems (US Robotics 56K..not sure of the specifics of it, but they are almost identical). He has no problem, and I do. Same sawtooth crap. Just a bit ago (1:00pm mst) I was eating lunch, watching the stat. Little rough, but flat, still on UDP I think, and then it just up and quit with the Host connection lost message. Flayd and I are convinced it is an internal problem, and we are stumped.
   If I remember right, he also brought his comp over here and played...no problem.     I'll keep your suggestion in mind MD..Thanks
 P.S. I did limit the FR to 60.

Flayd just reduced the port speed (I think) to my modem...fewer disconnects.  Thanks FLAYDone.
