[?whine]
A few weeks ago, a newbie squaddie and i visited the CT to check things out. After we arrived, making it 3v2 in the arena, the only other player on our team switched so we were alone. I went on 200 and explained that we were new, but no one responded. Not surprisingly, the 3 vets shot us down without problems, so we jsut left. When I checked back a few hours later, the three guys had captured the entire map unopposed.
Not too impressive for the "difference."
I didnt go back for weeks, but decided to try today, on the Continuation War map. When I logged on I was still a CT rook, which made the allies up 9:4. I switched to Bishops and looked for the fight. The mini-furball had 6 finns and 3 russkies, but we made a game of it. After getting shot down, I asked on 200 if somebody could switch -- "theres 7 on 3 in the air now, and ganging's supposed to be an MA thing." Nobody came to Bish.
I upped again and found a 109 3k above the airfield. He didnt vulch, but when I got to about 1k he engaged and we started a fairly fun fight -- I'm ok with having disadvantage. After 2 passes we had started a sort of scissor, with him using more vertical and me more lateral, but 190 came in and I was caught between. Well, thats how it goes.
I broke out, since setting up the snapshot on one would mean getting killed by the other one -- and within seconds (it seemed) i had 4 red on my tail and one ahead, about to join the fray. After a couple pings I figured "scr3w this" and augered. Maybe not appropriate, but I was frustrated. I made a comment about the 4v1 gang, and was told not to whine.
Historical plane sets? Great. Different maps and situations? Cool. Smaller numbers? Don't expect that to change, guys.
At least in the MA I can find a fairly balanced fight.
[/end whine]
EDIT:
[whine]
OK, I'll give it one more try, I think.
I got vulched -- 1 finn being chased by 2 russkies, sacrificed himself to ping me up.

You might want to use channel 1 (the one labeled "1 - All") instead of ch200 for communication in the CT, people might be more helpful.
-
yea we dont use ch.200 in the CT next time ask on the open channel

Not tryin to be cold here, but...........it happens. Doesnt matter what arena you fly in, there are going to be people who face-shoot. There are going to be people who dont like to fly without advantage on their side. There are going to be people who enjoy taking bases but dont like opposition.
Now, having said that, let me say that MOST of the time, if the numbers get unbalanced somebody switches sides. Not always. Not right away. Everybody has the rides they like. I personally HATE being stuck flying Allies on nights when we have P51s and P47s. But I do it. I'd much rather be up in a 109 or even a Yak. A FW A-5 wouldnt be bad either. In the PAC setups I love flying Japanese planes. But I'll still switch and fly the big chunks of metal with wings the Allies get. Thing is, especially if you are not a regular, alot of the guys that fly there EXPECT newcomers to gripe. Doesnt matter if your complaint is legitimate or not, they are SO waiting for you to say one thing and jump on you for it. Its not what you say, its how you say it. And sometimes not saying anything, just upping over and over again to get shot down is the best way to get guys to switch and help you out. If they see you dont give up, and you dont whine, and you still give em the instead of the bird when they blow you out of the sky over and over, you'll find lots of guys flying on your wing. Ignore the trash you see on the main channel. Thats exactly what it is. Trash. Sometimes I think we have more fun in there trying to push each other's buttons and make somebody screw up than we do with the actual flying. So I guess it boils down to..............
1. Come into the CT with a thick hide.
2. Take what you get in there with a grain of salt.
3. Just like they used to teach us in computer class. Garbage in/Garbage out. Give off positive, you'll get positive back. (well, mostly) Give off negative, I can guarantee you'll get it back.
4. Leave with much less of a headache, and a little bit more skill than what you came in with.
5. Remember that whether you consider this a "game", or a "sim", no matter what it aint REAL. If you can keep from losing your temper, one night with these guys relieves ALOT of stress lol. I've never found anyplace that makes me laugh this hard consistently. And if its a bad night, just log out. Even Cheers had its bad episodes. :aok

Simaril,
Did you know that you live just a bit north of an eskimo?
As said, we don’t use 200 in the CT; channel one has yet to be shut down.
The CT can be fairly lopsided, but less than half the time. It can happen quickly. Sometimes the uneven numbers represent some who are not in the fight, so a furball might not be as bad as the roster indicates.
Yesterday, I logged on, flew a sortie or two for the Finns, then was asked to swap sides. I hadn’t looked at the numbers; it was 9:3. In just a few sorties the numbers were much closer. I stayed logged on while I played with my kids, or ate or something. On my first sortie back someone pointed out that the numbers were off and the Ruskies were low. I offered to switch when my sortie ended. When I landed a quarter of a tank later, the numbers were even again.
Keep trying the CT, especially when it has 15 or more players. You will find that those great fights that can be rare in the MA can be fairly common in the CT. You will also find that there is not ALWAYS an enemy plane that is faster and/or higher; sometimes the 202 rules the skies in the CT.

LOL i wonder who that could have been....

Probably the same guys who say suck it up when they out number and vulch you.
And yet when they outnumber you again but you have alt and pick them off one at a time they moan about not coming down to fight.
Seems to me they only want realistic tactics when it suits them :)

Good advice all.

Ok, I surrender... The odd numbers in the Finrus map is our Lenetolaivue 32's fault, because our squad is big (total 30 pilots and 8-10 at the same time in the arena) and we always fly Finnish/rooks side in this map. Here are some reasons why:
1) It has been the ONLY map in the CT about two years where we can demonstrate our historical Continuation War aerial battles. Finrus is very important to Finnish players.
2) Most of us are very familiar with Bf 109's and we like to fly them mostly. Bf 109 G2 and G6 were also the most important Finnish fighters in the Continuation War.
3) Lentolaivue 32 is practicing team working and aerial fighting tactics in our saturday's Squad night. That is in the other words "gang banging" against Russian planes!:D
4) We can fly so called "War missions" only in the Finrus map and our rules says that you must fly always in the same side with your squad mates. Rules says also that you must fly those missions with Finnish fighters. You can read more for them from here:
War missions (http://www.llv32.org/war_missions.htm)
You US and English players have very many maps from the battles which are important to you. I like most of those terrains, too: Slot, BoB etc. and I also like fly Japanese fighters in the Pacific maps.
You have enough maps rotating in the CT (coming soon :D ) and it is very much easier to you switch sometimes to your historical enemies sides.
Now it was over half year break with the Finrus, so try to understand us crazy Finns. We have been this week so childish and eager: everybody has wait that update a long time! :p
In the other maps we can split our Squad and balance the arena when needed! :aok
...moment... if we fly differend sides and kill each other, we are never coming the number one squad in the CT rank... hmmm... :rofl

So, Kanttori,
You Finns still find it fun to fly (or an even remote correllation to history) when you outnumber the Red side manyfold?
Just askin.

"You Finns" is about as vague as "You Americans". We don't have one voice here. The other Finnish squads (like LeLv34) and other Finnish players usually try to balance the numbers when they get too lopsided . To answer your question for my part: No, it is not fun, it does not correlate with history, but sometimes it happens. Try to live with it.

That's actually not true. We've flown on both sides, except for a couple of hours on saturday when we were having our squad night... At least I'm not having very much fun in a "horde vs 2 to 4" fights. But as Timppa said, it happens.

I actually like the Finrus map. I think we have some of the best fights in this map. I also think it has a pretty good range of fighters on both sides. Although I'd like to see both Yaks enabled instead of just one, and the FW D9 enabled.
This map also would be great if they ever add the P39.

I think it's pretty obvious in the context of the response to whom I was addressing the question: the "us crazy Finns" Kanttori spoke of in his post.
The reason I asked is that I generally don't find lopsided turkeyshoots very much fun, whichever side I'm on. I was curious whether the "Finns" in LeLv32 did enjoy them, since Kanttori acknowledged in his post that they flew only one side on this map regardless of the mitigating circumstances.
I have no problem living with it.

Judging the balance in the CT by numbers can be very misleading. The CT attracts many very new pilots, who would probably be better served in the TA, as well as some of the most talented killers in the game. You can see 5 on 1 fights in there where 5 n00bs are gettin eaten up by someone like Shane all night. Sure it's 5 on 1, but those 5 guys are at a serious disadvantage. In general once you get 15 or more people in the CT things seem to even out pretty well, I find.
