Things worked fine a week ago.
On the 25th I updated Windows XP SP2 (it made a restore point which XP called Software Distribution Service 2.0) and now AH reboots my machine after a few seconds ingame. Every time. Without fail.
Just before it crashes and reboots you can hear clicks from the computer. About one every four or five seconds. I once got to the fourth click before it crashed. Usually it only gets to two or three.
Anyone else have problems after a recent WinXP update?
I got all my ducks in a row. AH patch 10 (I did patch 11 but rolled it back as it was no help) , latest drivers, anti virus updates, XP updates, disk checks, defrags.
I'm A+ and Net + certified and did every possible thing to make sure my system wasn't the problem. Everything from Last Known Configuration to a WinXP Repair and everything in between.
All my other programs work sweet. AH2 is a no go.
Anyone have any information? Especially about that XP update? I'm sure that's the problem

I updated 3 machines with SP2, 1 ran ok, 1 ran a little slower (but is definitely in need of a format), and the 3rd (my primary NEW gaming rig) wouldn't even boot up windows.
Wish I could help... again, formating made all my problems with SP2 go away.

offhand i'd say it has to do with the sp2 firewall turned on as default...
just a guess. i d/l sp2 a while back, no plms with ah2 (i killed the firewall), but it did tank my norton's, so i rolled back to sp1...

I've had XP Sp2 since it came out.
I turned off the firewall, anti virus and the Auto updater in Control Panel so they only run when I turn them on.
I can't re intall XP or reformat my HD because everything else runs smooth as silk.
The only change was this update last week and I'm thinking its affecting others here who like to keep up on the latest software tweaks that come out. I'm also trying to give a "heads up" to HTC and my fellow flyers that the latest XP update may be bad for the program.
The other thing too is that clicking noise. The AH program is trying to do something that actually, physically causes a click sound on my machine.
I've never run into something like this before and am hoping AH 2.01 will make a change for the better.
I'll be posting my dxdiag and msinfo here when I get the chance.
Frustrating, that's all. Nothing that patience and perseverence can't correct.

Just checked the Windows Auto Update site and the last things updated for me was Windows Media Player (from ver 9 to 10) and something called Journal Viewer.
Could the new version of Media Player play havoc with AH2?

Many people have posted that they took huge performance hits after installing Media Player 10. Some process running that you cant see that hogs all your CPU resources. I havent seen a problem with it personally, but enough people have that it could well be your problem.
