Title: What should I do
Post by: Lazer on November 01, 2004, 09:17:39 AM
Well.. I have =====A LOT===== of spyware on my computer.

I have tried running Spybot many times, but when I go to fix the problems, it says it is making a restore point, and then it stops responding.
Spybot just totally locks up on me.

What would be the best thing to do?

Got to http://www.majorgeeks.com

Download spybot search & destroy and hijackthis

Run spybot first...it should clean up most if not all of your problems...then run hijackthis. Hijackthis is very powerful but you need to be careful since its not really user friendly. Add the things you know you want to ignore list and delete the rest. Once you have your system fine tuned simply run hijackthis once a day and blow out anything new. As you add to system just update hijack this....

Added at Edit....

Remember to update both prior to using...also both are freeware/shareware (donations optional)

Its not locking up Lazer (probably), making a system restore point takes a LOOOONNNGGG> time.

You have the options in spyware to disable the system restore, so if you dont care about it, just shut it off.

Also downland and run Ad-aware SE Personal, which compliments spyware.

I just run Opera now in stead of using IE, and no more trouble with spyware.

You can eliminate spyware problems in IE as well.  You just have to adjust the security settings.
