Post by: mietla on November 01, 2004, 03:03:29 PM
Friend of mine want's to buy a digital camera in a $300-400 range. He's thinking about Minolta Dimage Z3.

I know that many of you guys are very good in this field.  I'd appreciate any and all advice.

thanks

first he needs to decide what he wants to use it for, (what kind of pictures) then pick the camera that fits.

I have one of these, great for everyday tourist type shots.  Fits into your pocket and I have found it takes great photos.  I have a 256 meg S/D card that gives me 90 photos at the highest settings and 210 photos and the next highest settings.  Easy to use and download and in the price range you mentioned.

My friends and have been very happy with our Canon Elphs.  I got hte S400 for my wife, 4 megapixel, and my friends have other models, and they are truly great.  The size is really important, the smaller camera means we take it more places.  What use is a super camera if it's so big you never take it places you'd want to photograph?

I just ordered a Canon G6 to replace my aging S40.  Seems it gets alot of excellent reviews from various sources...

I have an Olympus C-765 (4 Megapixel with 10X Optical Zoom) and love it.  My wife has a HP 935 and its going on EBay this week.  Unless you are going to print large photos all the time, the 3 to 4 megapixel range in a camera is more than sufficient.  I would try avoiding ones that run on regular batteries like some of the HP models that run on AA.  3 flash photos and the batteries are dead.
