is it me or is the water just stupid now
if its not 12:00 oc its blacker than a oil slick
im using the "old" effect water because the new one looks like ive overclock my gfx card too far...looks like just static, ugly static.......
so...since when was water ment to be black?
-
Heh ... did Pyro getcha laid? ;)

I get a framerate of 9 while offline when watereffect is turned on. Therefore I am forced to keep the water turned off, but water is very very dark then. HTC, please fix the water.
-
The water is definitely FUBAR'ed. :(
-
The water is definately to dark, and the water animation just sucks down the fps for me. I countered the dark water by turning up the gamma in the game from 1.0 to 1.2 I think.
-
i used 1.5 just now just to get the water right
but then everything else sucked.......
-
Yes,fix the water please
Off- Its black
On- too shimmery
-
Overall I think the animated water is much better.
Haven't noticed a frame rate hit with it on using the system in my sig. It does seem to be dark (I'm getting dark blue, not black though) but I have my gamma up just a bit.
The shimmer effect IMHO seems to be too fast, giving that 'static' look and the reflective light may be too bright.
Not sure if this can be done but if the shimmer could be slowed down and reflective light dimmed and the water brightened some, it'd look superb. :)
-
the animated water is odd...it does the oposite to all other detail settings....
low alt, just taking off i still get 60fps , but once upto 10k im getting 30-40 (down from 70) and at 20k i get 10fps (down from 70).......
errrrr
and as i keep saying it looks UGLY. Right under your plane its good, at range its horrible

Water totally kills my Framerates...
System Specs:
NVidia GeForce FX 5200
Soundblaster Audigy LS
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512 DDR Ram
Maxtor 80 GB HD
seems well above the min. requirements.
I just cant stand it because IL2s water seems to work perfectly. I pull 90 FPS full combat over water in IL2 FB, but I barely get 20 in AH.
Im really not happy, and im sorry to whine, but this has put me closer to cancelling my account.
-
You know what 1CMAddox after IL2, FB, AEP and now Pacific fighters.
STILL have problems with the water effect after basically 4 games.
In AH its a NEW effect, it will take some adjusting to become useable.
Personally i have no fps loss with it, but i switched it off because it looks awful at alt.
As others said it gives the impression of vid screen "snow" not nice, however at low alt and near to your plane it does look good apart from an awful colour.
Not black here but a real deep blue, totally unrealistic but then the terrain colours have been a subject of much discussion in the past.
-
overall i think the water is great, no fps kill, not too much colour problems (gamma at 0.7).
for all of you complaining about the view from alt, GET ya butt back down on the deck and do some fighting ya cherry pickers!!
:p

I'm a bit confused...
My framerate goes up with animated water on at all altitudes....
AMD 2500+ barton core
Gigabyte 8xAGP MB
Ti-4200 VC
1 gig PC1 2700
pegged at 75 almost always at default settings...

Water does not hit my FR at all, and the color I see is dark blue, which doesnt look right either. I have found that it is hard to judge how high above the water you are now, so maybe we need to see the waves gradually get bigger, or maybe some whitecaps or something. Overall, still very cool

The water...
Very sparkley....like a holiday
Sorry guys....frame rate MASSIVE hit and makes hitting cons hard from a ball turret looking down. Too much distraction.
Turned it off and will leave it off.

FR fine on the 9600 ATI card Skuzzy recommended I get to play AHII.

i find it funny that some people with X800XT's, 9800pros and 9700pros have problems but others with a entry level 2002 card are fine!??????????

With animations on; my frame rate drops to hell (and it looks yuk).
With it off, the water; while darker; looks great! still a bit uniform and no waves; but with a lovely sunlight reflective effect.
In general; while my frame rates haven't shot up; I can pull a higher graphics setting; and strangely; when I put an extremely high load on; such as trying to straffe GV's on a totally burning base; the slide show effect of low FPS seems smoother; almost just like slow motion rather than jerk-freeze frame. I can track and kill with it OK.
On the other hand; IE seems slower to respond and OE seems to take longer to fire up when I alt tab-out (such as now). The read me said something about memory management?
P IV 2.g IBM netvista
1.25 gb ram
Geforce 5FX5200
SB live
Saitek X45
all of the above running XP pro SP2 and "stuff" on it's respective latest drivers.
-
water reflections look nice if you look straight down on my computer, but in the distance it looks just like white spraypaint on MSPaint.

Argh .... the evil pRonsite worms be eating high end peep's framerates!
-
Seeker, I find it surprising that you get a slide show effect with that card. I have the same and I'm now pushing around 45 while flying through a completely burning base. In fact, Ive seen my frames drop to single digits once, and that was because I was stupid, not because of my card.
Try downloading the Omega drivers for it, http://www.omegadrivers.net They will probably add around 10 frames a second.
-
From what I am seeing, the majority of those having good luck with the new water as far as performance goes, are those who dont have a Geforce card. Again this is the majority of what I've seen. It doesnt mean squat tho. Just what I've noticed.
I've decided to ditch the GF card I have and go with the X800 256mb card. Just figured i'd try out an ATI for once. Always been a Geforce advocate.

I have the same processor, same amount of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro for video. My framerates go below 20 when I turn on animated water. The shimmer from the water looks like little gray pixels. I don't think it's just an NVIDIA thing.

GeForce 6800GT
P4 3.6 ghz
1Gig Ram
I get a huge frame rate hit with water on. It stays off. Tested it with AV and Firewall disabled, no difference.
-
i took loads of screenshots to show how "crap" it looks, but when i look at screenshots it LOOKS good, i think the main problem is the speed the animation plays from alt... halfing it might fix it?
-
I was taking a major FR hit when water enabled but after making the switch from catalyst drivers to Omega my ATI 9800XT is doing great with water on, I maintain no lower that 60 FR over water and 100 + everywhere else. Side note newest ATI catalyst control panel gave my system a Infinite loop and almost crashed the entire system, For me Omegas are the way too go! Happy landing:aok

Ok, after reading Flyboy's "wtf" post, I figured out how to get the active water to work right on my system. Went into the video settings and set AA to "Application Preference." Now my framerates are playable at around 30 over water (I also found out I've been using 512 textures so I upped it to 1024).

Although I got it to work on my system, I'm not sure whether I'm keeping it that way or not. I liked having all my sliders at full quality in the video driver's setup.

Water animation on: 13fps
Water animation off: 32fps
With the animation off, the water is far too dark. Water doesn't look like that from the air.
With the animation on, the wave sizes do not change with altitude. So when you're right on the deck, it looks the same as when you're at 20,000. That's a bad thing.
System specs:
AthlonXP 2600+
1Gb DDR RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Windows XP (sp1)
4.10 Catalyst drivers
Running AHII at 1600x1280 with FSAA and AA maxxed.
I suspect that the reason people with the better cards are getting the fps hits is they are either running at a significantly higher resolution, or because they have FSAA and AA cranked at higher resolutions.
-
I ran a fresh install of the newest version after patch didnt take so all my settings are at game default. I'm running a T1-4200 and am maxed out at 75FPS (V-snch max) 99% of the time with animated water on...my VC a relic compared to most of what I see on this thread...???

YOur problem for sure is your resolution. I have a very similar setup
xp 2600+ 266fsb
512MB 2100 DDR
Radeon Pro 128
Win XP SP2
4.10 cats
but run AH at 1024 x 768 (got a 17in monitor)
get consistant 40 fps sometimes up to 60 fps. Never get less than 30 even in furball.
I do you end it all before playing and this is setup for the min amount of programs running while playing. I also disable virus scan and windows auto update.
Have vsync on - only change I made to the default cats.
Also have the animation on
Acetnt
P.S. Waiting on the AMD price drop on the 7th (christmas sale) to pick up a A64 3000+ 939 , MB and new ram...:-)

How's about nixxing the water and fixing the trees so from the side, they look right :aok
