Title: Rant of the Day
Post by: Wurger on November 03, 2004, 09:24:45 AM
Ok, I usually don't complain, but I just have to rant about this.  Last night, I took a Fw190A8 out, got 3 kills, then lost my outter wing when a B24 ran over me.  Well, I managed to keep the thing in the air, and got headed for friendly territory to bail.  However, I found I could still excercise reasonable control, and when I saw said B24's up ahead and level with me, I closed and killed one.  Since I couldn't really turn around for another pass, I headed to A20.  I came in for a gear up approach, and managed to land nicely on the runway, losing wings, etc of course, but ended up stopped, still sitting pretty in the cockpit.  Well, just as I was about to click on Tower to end mission, *poof* I get a 'You have been killed' message!  No enemy around to have shot me, so how the heck did I die!??!?  Very frustrating after all the work...

If you were on fire, maybe you exploded or burned to death.

could you have been on fire possibly and not able to see the fire from the cockpit?

edit: guess me and eagl was thinking same thing LOL

ya i get that sometimes too, i think hiteck implemented a randomizer so that you have a 50 percent chance of tripping as you get out of the cockpit, and a 30 percent chance of breaking something vital.

That's happened to me, too. I think there was a fire on my wing that eventually hit the gas tank.

I'm pretty sure that if you've got a wing on fire and you've landed, you ain't gonna blow up or die. When you're airborne and have a burning wing it will eventually break off and you die because of the resulting crash. If you manage to land or ditch before the wing breaks, you cannot crash because you're on the ground.

I've landed with a burning wing several times. If you park on the runway while the wing is still burning, it will still eventually burn off but it won't kill you. Sometimes the wing breaks off just before touchdown and you thump down onto the runway and slide.

I've not seen any different burning aircraft behaviour to this.

not to rain on your parade, but I have seen a plane on fire eventually explode,  in the air, on the ground and landing and taking off............

That's cool. Just saying what I have and haven't seen myself.

Don't ya hate it when you look back and realize that the black smoke trainling from your plane is thicker and darker than just the engine oil stuff....

No wing tanks in the A8.
