Title: FS Pack 2.0 Released!
Post by: Fruda on November 03, 2004, 02:32:35 PM
Finally, it's complete. It has many, many sounds, to say the least.

[Space Reserved for Link]

Everything is how it should be. Engine sounds have their own unique volume, so certain planes are louder than others (especially the P-47's).

I've taken a lot of care with the gun sounds. 30's, 303's, 50's, 20's, 30's, and 37's sound brilliant. Some gun sounds have long mixes, so you get more nuances when firing.

And, yes, engines. Every engine sound came from a real recording --- From the DB605 to the Napier Sabre.

Of course, there are the GV sounds. Quite good, if you will. It makes for a much better experience than the default sounds!

Every sound is in 16-bit, 22.5khz. All sounds that can be Stereo are in stereo. The rest are in Mono.

Now, I will say this. The pack is not for those of you who are afraid of loud noises. Many sounds are indeed very loud, and have a lot of bass rumble. This offers the most realism at the expense of easy listening. So, if you live in an apartment or condominium, turn the subwoofer off, and the speakers down a bit, because plenty of these sounds are LOUD.

The pack is about 200mb. Now, I don't have anybody to host it yet, but I will soon, so be patient. You'll be able to download it soon :aok .

Now, I will have a patch out this week. It addresses some engine start nuances. Until recently, I didn't have a wave editor that could do auto fading. Well, I have Nero Wave Editor now, and I've already fixed three engstart files. You won't be able to tell much difference, but it'll be there.

Anyway, as I said, just be patient. A host will be up soon.

Fruda, FYI.  Sound files need to be mono in order to work with the 3D sound system.  A DirectX requirement, not ours.  Just thought you might want to know.

If you can break it into ~40MB chunks I can host it for you.

I should be able to make 40mb chunks.

On the 3D sound issue --- Like I said, only certain sounds are stereo.

All sounds that are able to use stereo *are* in stereo. The rest are in mono. It sounds much better this way. I've tested it countless times in every possible way, and every sound is how it should be.

Fruda, I am just saying that the 3D positioning cannot work with stereo tracks.  If the sounds are not in need of positioning, then, no big deal.

Post by: Fruda on November 03, 2004, 09:23:58 PM
Oh, I see where you're getting at.

It's not positioning at all --- It's just double tracking to make it more powerful. Double tracking in mono doesn't exactly work...

Believe me, the positioning effects in AHII are intact with these sounds. I just had to use stereo on the engine/wind sounds to double track.

Fruda,

Does that work?  The engines are positional.  If you turn your head in a single engine aircraft the engine sound source should chage speakers.

On top of that multiengined aircraft also have sound sources.

It changes speakers how it should. It works properly.

Like I said, my stereo soudns aren't positional stereo. It's just double mono for more power.

uh  - no offense, but what the heck is double mono? If theres a left and a right side, even if its the same sound source - it's still stereo - at least from the listening feild perspective.

Waffle still has to be an stunninghunk about somebody else making a good sound pack. And when there was only one, yes, one of your sounds in that P-51 preview pack (since I'm the only one working on the pack, they're all gone now), you said that the flaps, gear, and wind sounds were yours. I made those sounds. Sounds to me like somebody didn't want another person making a sound pack that could rival his.

Anyway, you call yourself a sound engineer and you don't know what double mono is? It can also be called dual mono, if you will.

It's a stereo mode that uses two monoraul channels. The two channels are exactly the same, so it doesn't sound more dynamic. It just sounds more powerful. It isn't true stereo.

Jebus, awfully defensive Fruda.  I detect no stunninghunk-ishness from Waffle.

There is absolutely no reason to go fanboi for one soundpack over another.  ALL player contributions, be it sounds, skins, terrains, or whatever, are welcomed and are certainly appreciated by MANY, whether they show it or not.

I know that. That's why I congratulate others on their work.

I tend to get aggressive when somebody more or less says I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'll upload it as soon as my brother gets off the damn computer (I'm using a different PC right now, which doesn't have the sound pack).

It's just a waste of size.

I could make it mono... But, that would take about an hour. It's just not worth it to go and convert it for a less powerful sound.

Well Hello World :)

Wasn't trying to be an "stunninghunk" - was just curious what "double mono was.  In wav editing a stereo file has 2 wavs(if that is the filetype you are editng) - even if it is the same wav file per left/right. Wasn't sure if you were mixing 2 sounds onto one "Mono wav".

'Double mono' threw me for a loop..that's all, if you would've used "dual mono"( which can procees either a left/right source, or 2 mono sources),  that might've cleared it up.

Even in dual mono - you have a left/right ouput..which when you go back to Wav editing...it will be labeled a stereo file.

FYI, If you are using "dual mono" (stereo WAV, same sound source) in engines....You wont have exterior engine sounds.
The 3d AH sound engine will play a true stereo/dual mono wav. while you are "in plane" but you will loose all external aircraft sounds.

Now as far as this:

It's just a track record Fruda...I asked for a gentlemans request about not using my "edited" sounds. I don't want to get in a P'ing contest with you, but you did use sounds. Then blamed your brother for it.  It's pretty easy to import files into Nuendo or pro-tools to check out/compare to the ones I did. If I change stock directory of the files I edit and import a "downloaded" soundpack - the next time I open the program I used to edit and it can't find the stock files - it will ask to search. I just have it search the downloaded soundpack and It will come back with sounds based on bits, the number of samples and sometimes with the id still stamped.

It's a little overboard, but If I have to prove something...

You should understand this - again I'll use the skin analogy - if you make a skin and someone comes along / downloads it and changes a call sign, then calls it "their" skin - well you get the idea..

Well, he really doesn't like to listen to me, so I won't let him touch it any more. Those sounds will be out, and an update will be put on my site shortly.

Sorry for this --- If I had known he didn't remove them, I wouldn't have uploaded it. I just work on the sounds; he's the one who organizes them.

Don't worry --- None of your stuff will be in the final product. I am, however, using some of Spade's buzzers and Check6/Warning sounds, since he said I could.

All in all.  I'm glad to see other people making sound packs, but I don't know why you feel like you're in competition with me.

If you want to do that...the election stuff has died down...So Maybe I'll be Bush..and you can be Kerry...lol

out of all the sounds being made can there be one for the bombbay doors opening or are they even heard from the cockpit?

hey wolf, there was a sound for that and it's in the files, but not being played by sound engine in AH.

Yeah, I was using that stallhorn as a placeholder. Then, when I asked a certain somebody to take the sounds out, he said he did, and woop-de-freaking-doo, he didn't.

Anyway, none of your sounds are in this pack. And I thought it was a bit odd that you said my 109 flaps/gear sounds were yours... They weren't.

so for the doors to sound as they open HTC has to code the AH engine to play it?

Oh Fruda sorry for throwing a slight kink in your thread. I figured yall would be the best ones to ask.

Oh, you can only hear the bomb doors when you're in the bombardier view... Weird, huh?

Oh, I'm gonna put a slight delay on my pack. I'm standardizing the wind sounds. Shouldn't take long.

I have never heard them in bombadiers view. Maybe I have a bad setting somewhere.

Hmmmm.......

Fruda - the doors opening sound doesn't existing in the sounds that are played by the AH engine. Check your sounds setup- do you have a level setting for "door.wav"? That sound got left out somewhere before ah2 beta I believe. Although the file is still in the default sounds folder - just not used.

Heh, it sure is!

I just finished packing it in .RAR format, and it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be. It's about 120mb.

I'm about to upload it.

Alright, it's up. Have fun with the pack!

OK ... I see the files uploaded to my server, so you can download from here. (http://www.gonzoville.com/list.php?c=ahfiles)

Be sure to grab all 4 parts.

And the reason I ask that files be broken up is to maintain server performance ... I know it's inconvenient for some, but the 30 seconds it takes to extract a couple extra archives is far less than the time slow downloads would cost you.

I've looked for a download script which has some kind of queue mechanism to get around this, but haven't found one.

My mirror will only be for fast connections or overnight downloads.

A single file archive is not available from my server. Sorry.

Well, it says that I can't edit because the post is too old.

And 6Gun --- Just get all four of the files. It's not split into bits like BitTorrent. It's just different plane/gv folders in each archive.

There is a time limit on how long you can edit a post.  Once the time limit expires, it is locked.  You could probably get one of the message board administrators to unlock the post for you.
