Gents,
I'm thinking of doing a skin of Chuck Yeager's "Glamourus Glen" P51B (yes, with the incorrect spelling).
I have a few partial pics of the plane but if anyone has some they would like to post here that would be great.
Does anyone have a P51B template that I could use as a starting point?
Also, I noted some threads referring to some guides made up by nopoop and ????. Does anyone know if and where these are to be found?
Any and all help appreciated.
Cheers,
mako

Not 100% sure, but I believe that one has already been done.
Also, oboe has done quite a bit of work on P-51Bs, so you will want to talk to him.
I have a skinning guide website set up, http://www.ahskinning.netfirms.com Hopefully you can get some use out of it as well.

Everything you'd want to know about Yeager's first B model Mustang

Guppy thx for the link. Saw that but was hoping for some better photos of the real life plane.
I noticed in the skins submission thread there was a couple of "G G III" P51D's but haven't seen a B yet.

Not sure where else you could look as the Bud Anderson site is fairly comprehensive.
I have Merle Olmsted's history of the 357th and it doesn't have any other photos of Yeager's first 51B in it either

Hi Mako- I don't have a template for the 51B yet, as I'm not sure anything thing I've done on them will be approved by HTC. I *think* what I've done is OK, but am waiting for some official confirmation before I release anything, so I dont' spread any errors I may have made.
All my 51B skins are on http://www.ah-skins.com - do a search by plane type (but for the RAF P-51, just show all British planes; don't limit it to aircraft type as the P-51 isn't a choice for the Brits' list).
I think you may have trouble doing Yeager's 51B - there are mirroring issues with the nose of the plane, so any text on one side of the nose appears backwards in the same location on the other side. No way around it that I know of.
Cheers!

Thanks for the replies guys. Do you know if there's any way to use the small pic files for the nose markings to avoid the mirror problem? Is there a file that defines the location of those textures?

I don't think so. I don't do much work with P-51s, but I believe the mirroring is part of the model itself and has nothing to do with the bitmaps.

My understanding of it is that there exists a "texture map" somewhere that tells how the skin information in the bmp files is to be applied to the 3D airplane shape. We have no control over this process, and in the case of the P-51B, the texture map is using the same bmp information for the skin on both sides of the nose.
It will eventually be fixed but we don't know when.

I've read Chuck Yeager's autobiography quite a few times and not once did I read about a Glamorous Glen III P-51D. But I did read about a Glamorous Glen II which was a plane he received from a squad mate (whom he was also wingman for on his last mission) after that squad mate's final mission because on that flight Chuck's wingman almost augered in when they dropped their drop tanks because the fuel mixture setting was wrong and the engine cut out after the drop and pretty much the plane dropped like a flying brick until he changed his fuel mixture setting back to full rich and the engine roared back to life. I would like to see a Glamorous Glen II P-51D in the game because Chuck was also the first member in his squad to shoot down a ME-262. Of course he kinda vulched it as the 262 was on short final for landing and never had a chance to manuver out of the way. The 262 ended up crash landing a few hundred feet short of the end of the runway.
Anyway, I would love to see a Glamorous Glen II flying in AH2.
