Title: Jungle Tiles instead of farmland
Post by: bbosen on November 04, 2004, 10:51:26 AM
I want to enhance one of my maps so the farmland looks like jungle. With the old Terrain Editor I stumbled on the way to do this, but I can't figure out how to do it with AH2 TE.

How do you use "tiles"? Can I use the tiles from the old Terrain Editor somehow?

new TE no "tiles" available AFAIK.

some have "hacked" or modified them somehow dont know what the right word is.

the new TE is supposed to be making custom tiles available in the future, with a 3d editer. read the news forum and the TE posts, they talk about it there.

HINTS:

shpfilter.txt
select
Save Texture
savedtex
texsrc

Or go to the link below and get the default tiles.

:D;)

You must first change the name of the shpfilter.txt in order to get all of the available shapes to show up (example) shpfilterok.txt this is what I did to mine.:aok

Well.....  Thanks, but I guess I need more than a "hint". Is there someplace where this is explained in complete sentences? I've kicked these files around and clicked on all of the [in]obvious places to no avail.

Tiles can still be put in through the texsrc folder but the size and names are differant. Every tile is made up of 4 subtypes combined in any 1 of 256 possable ways to create 1 tile. Each subtile is 512 X 512 and all must tile with each other. The numbers for farm would be terr0003, terr0103, terr0203 & terr0303. Transitions are done automatically. Now the downside, all objects on the tile will still be there so you'll have farmhouses & barns on your jungle tiles. Also they don't automatically show up in the game, every player has to delete the terrxxxx.TCA files from the cache\stdshape folder.

Change the name of the shpfilter here you will get all the tiles when you hit save texture it places them in savedtex folder just click and save each one to get the full set or visit AH terrains, follow zmeg's instructions to use. hope this helps.

But w/these you have something to compare numbers and sizes w/when adding your own, hopes this helps too.

As a recommendation, I would not expend any effort trying to put in custom tiles just yet.  I can pretty much assure you it will get broken when we add native support for this feature.

Thanks everybody.

I think I'll wait awhile before I do anything fancy with tiles, to give HTC time to standardize things.

THANKS HTC!

Now Falcon, why would a geek like me have any idea when this stuff is going to happen?  :)

Not if you use the right natives. :)
