I just seem to be out of ideas for searching on google...

By techs do you mean engineers?  Yes, they saw a lot of combat, in addition to all their other duties.  It shouldn't be hard to find info on the net.

the way i understand it was that tech part was a way of paying a guy more without the leadership expectations of the higher nco ranks. i think tech became specialist over the years until they finaly did away with it. now a specialist is an E-4. corp. is an E-4 too.

Tech Sgt. was a rank givin mostly to mechanics and specialists and such.

These guys could run a motor pool or a mait. flight but real GIJO platoon Sgts. they were not.

The USAF still has TSgt but it's not a specialty rank just E6

Keep in mind the US army also had what we call the USAF today in it at one point in time.

In addition I think there was also a seperate rank structure for logistics types.  You'd see them with regular chevrons on thier sleeves but they'd have a T in them.

The Marines used to have Tech Sgt. as well
