Here, Sandog... sorry about the size; resizing would have changed the image.

Is this what you see?

The animated water is a complete waste... if you turn it on, it kills your frame rate. With it off, it is so dark you need a flashlight...

I think it still needs a lot more tweaking to make it viable.

Delirium,

It is highly dependant on which video card you have.  I have a GeForce4 4600 and it has no effect on my framerate.  People with GeForce 5700s take massive hits to their framerates.

ATI driven 256meg 9600 .... frames are fine. Water looks fine. If I'm having trouble seeing someone 10k feet below me .... that's fine.

lol Yucca, yeah thats pretty much what it looks like to me too.

Its a good start tho. We all gotta remember that any start is better than no start at all.

Why special hit on 5700s?  That's what I've got.  Any particular problem?

Ive got a 5200 and I get the massive hit as well.  I think its just the cards from 5200-5900 taking hits on the GF end.  Im not sure about ATI cards, but the older and newer GF cards are working well.  It seems that the "in the middle" cards are the ones struggling.

Same with Karnak. I have a Gf4 Ti4600, and I experience no frame rate hits at all... except, the water doesn't look like the pic at all neither.

On my card the animated water option is available, but it looks like a shimmering movie marquee rather than water.

BTW I have AA turned on... without it I bet the effect would be harsh.

Thanks, mine looks about the same. I tried different levels of AA. Didn't really change much. I had a fight yesterday while overwater, with animated water on found it really difficult to track the con. Think I will leave it off for now.

I've got a 9800 Pro (L-shaped RAM), and the animated water barely makes a hit on my framerate.

My problem is the trees. They give me a massive FPS hit unless I turn the GFX settings to medium.

Kweassa,

Yes, and I think that is why we don't take the frame rate hit.  GeForce4 cards don't fully support the water effect.

i get an fps of like 2-5 when its on and 50+ with it off.
it looks good at the bottom of my screen but the top is a grainy mess.
then again my pc is 5 years old i didnt expect it to handle it.

I get 54 or so frames on or off. Geforce 4600 here. But it looks like the pic above...not that it looks bad...it just doesnt look right. At that alt if you look at a certain area its pretty cool...back to the horizon its just fuzzy....and it low the texture of the water loses the effect and becomes less like water and more like a windows funky textured desktop.
