Title: New Acceleration Results for AHII
Post by: Mister Fork on November 06, 2004, 02:19:51 PM
My results from AHII have been completed.  There are a few surprises, and I'm able to draw a few conclusions.

Several points:
1. Notably, most aircraft have slowed down in their acceleration by an average of 3.8s or .28m/s^2.
2. All fighter aircraft accelerate an average 12% slower than AHI .
3. Both the Spitfire V and Seafire II boosted their ranking by 8, and 11 places from AHI.
4. The Yak-9U boosted its ranking by 11 places.
5. The F4U-C moved up 15 slots in acceleration.
6. F4U-4 moved down 19 places in ranking.

You can view the entire list here: Acceleration Excel Sheet  (http://members.shaw.ca/mr.fork/accel.zip)

Testing Criteria
a) All aircraft were loaded with 100% fuel, minimum weapons loadouts.
b) Altitude for all tests were 1000ASL
c) Aircraft speeds were recorded from 150-250 using the E6B.
d) Aircraft speeds were brought below 140mph.  Aircraft were applied 100% full throttle and WEP engaged (if available). At 150mph TAS stopwatch was engaged.
e) Timer was stopped at 250mph TAS.
f)  Test was repeated four additional times.
g) Average of time was calculated. Scores are +/- .1s.

Acceleration Forumula
(Vf - Vo) / t  m/s^2
(250mph - 150mph) / time
(111.8m/s - 67.1m/s) / t  = 44.7m/s / s

Where:
Vf = 250mph = 111.8 m/s IAS
Vo= 150mph = 67.1 m/s IAS
Vf - final velocity
Vo - initial velocity

Nice work Mstrfork. Thank You.

What speed range are you measuring acceleration over?

Note:  We don't have a Mosquito Mk IV, which is a glass nosed, unarmed bomber.  We have a Mosquito Mk VI which is very armed.

hmmmm interesting. Ki-84's acceleration is so bad?

does the EXCEL spreadsheet give the formula in which you obtained these numbers?

if not how did you go about calculating what plane is capable of what acceleration? and what fuel load, alt, starting speed to ending speed did you use......

Again we see the C202 miracle where it gets so so much more performance than the other early model 1100hp DB601 engined planes. :)

Holy cow.. the Fw190D-9 is probably the most impressive increase in acceleration of all the planes... (and the Ta is still crap! :D )

The acceleration is from a standing start to maximum velocity.

Oh, I'm wrong?  So what's the number measure then?

Oops, guess I shoulda posted my criteria.

a) All aircraft were loaded with 100% fuel, minimum weapons loadouts.
b) Altitude for all tests were 1000ASL
c) Aircraft speeds were recorded from 150-250 using the E6B.
d) Aircraft speeds were brought below 140mph.  Aircraft were applied 100% full throttle and WEP engaged. At 150mph TAS stopwatch was engaged (if available)

(250mph - 150mph) / time
(111.8m/s - 67.1m/s) / t  = 44.7m/s / time recorded

Where:
Vf = 250mph = 111.8 m/s TAS
Vo= 150mph = 67.1 m/s TAS
Vf - final velocity
Vo - initial velocity
TAS - true air speed

I retested several aircraft after I compiled my results to make sure I didn't miss anything. Those were:
Me-262, Me-163, SeaFireII, SpitFireV, Yak-9U, F4U-4, P-40B, Hurricanes, and Bf-110's.

Other notables...
- All Hurricanes are notablably slower
- The P40B was over 10 seconds faster than AHI in it's acceleration test
- The SeaFire and SpitFireMk V barely registered a time change, yet their ranks increased.
- The Me-163 was almost 50% slower
- The Me 262 is 33.7% slower than AHI

What does all this data mean?
- The flight model in AHII has drastically changed from AHI making most flight models acclerate slower than AHI.
- The only aircraft to change spots and who's time didn't change a whole lot were the SeaFireII, SpitFire V, and the Yak-9U.  I'm not sure if their engine torque was increased, but of all the aircraft tested, these three stand out.
- The F4U-4 was over 3 seconds slower. It too has stood out from the data normalization.
