I am doing a couple of 1/35 German Tigers for a friend...
was going to use the photoetched zimmerit, but I got the bright idea of trying to make it myself....
How the hell is it done?
Curious, I tried green putty, but it dried to fast. Milliput seemed to be too hard to flatten to the surface...
Any suggestions?

hot knife = blunt edge or fashion you own pattern to correspond with the type you're doing.
Or - you can try using alcohol to keep the putty moist longer, and dip the tool you're using into alcohol before each impression is made.

Bodhi I wish I could help you but I don't even know what zimmerit is.
I'm an aircraft guy though.

Cavalier Zimmerit.
Here is a review for a Stug set to give you an idea of their premade resin zimmerit updates but they make a number of Tiger sets.

If you want to go the putty route.
Try Zimm-It-Rite from here: http://www.rjproducts.com
Its a very slow setting soft water soulable epoxy putty.
