Title: Dynamics Of Computer Game Whining
Post by: FUNKED1 on November 08, 2004, 01:06:07 AM
What I've learned is that if you play a game where there's no time to whine, there's no time to whine.
Anybody want to buy my HOTAS stuff?

Like what games? I don't know what's cool in teh game world, but even though I blow at FPS, I dig Vietcong (I think that's what it's called). I suck at it, but gooks scare the piss out of me, and that war always struck me as just.... dark.

I'll be hiding under some bush, and won't be thinking about taunting because it'll blow my cover. Maybe that's what everyone else is thinking, because I don't hear any taunting from them. Or maybe it's cuz I don't read the text buffer so much.

Too busy scaning for gooks.

I play Joint Ops a lot, and Richard Burns Rally.  In Joint Ops there are no gooks but there are some pissed off Indonesian rebels with machetes.

Actually, I think the JO lack of comms is due to a really fast buffer that also displays kill messages and tons of default macros (need a ride); nobody reads it anyway.

Then again, I haven't played the full version, but it does sound like whining about snipers has had an effect.
In-game whining is nothing compared to BBS whining, both in magnitude and annoyance factor.

In-game whining though is greatly reduced by a lack of a serviceable chat buffer during the "commute". But AH and WB were always flying chatrooms anyway.

The best way to avoid whining is not to play; or if you must play, play something nobody else does.

Well... looks like a "I finally don't need my flight gear... I'm quitting for good" post to me you cheesdick.

There's plenty of things to whine about in JO.  It's just that you know it's 100% futile.  Default game maps are broken for 2 "patches" in a row.  Some people are unable to host at all.  Some hosts can't host more than 2 games without servers crashing.  Random dropping of players.  lag whenever someone logs in.

Play it for four years and see how much you like that stuff.  Don't mistake new for too much fun to complain about.

I haven't tried the racing game mostly because I got tired of buying new racing games to race with you guys who were seemingly buying a new racing game every 3 months.

I'm really thinking you deserve the big gay triangle for this one funky... you manic pc-game depresant.

Ever tried Americas Army? Free d/l and free multiplayer....it's superior to all out there with the exception of the no respawn after death thingie.

I did my best fly'n with a crappy $30 Thrustmaster TopGun stick, just luved that pinky button on the handle and the beefy spring actions. The pinky button was perfect for toggling to the upward views in a dogfight and the flow was natural for me.

Now i can't find a stick that has the beefy spring action and a good button setup, wtf is up with dat!

Why no pinky button!

I blame the Franco-phones.
