Title: Next FSO: Breakout!
Post by: Puck on November 08, 2004, 07:26:50 PM
This will be my first FSO as admin CM, and (of course) I'm chomping at the bit to try a couple new things that may or may not repulse people to the point of physical nausea.  Daddog has tied me to the tree with a 9 inch hawser, but the telltales are starting to creak...

Allied and Axis orders are both ready.  I'm afraid this should have been posted here and on events two days ago and I was behind the curve.  Once I get access to the events server I'll get it posted.

==============================
Breakout!

The Situation:

Dateline July 18, 1944
After the initial invasion of Normandy the Allies' progress was suddenly slowed.  Cherbourg fell in late June, but by early July American forces under Omar Bradley were caught fighting a war of attrition in the hedgerow country of the bocage.  Allied moral and public opinion was deteriorating under the specter of falling into WWI style trench warfare in France.

The Germans, meanwhile, were fighting to keep the Allies penned up in the Cotentin.  They successfully destroyed the port of Cherbourg before it was captured.  The massive storm that hit Normandy on June 19th destroyed the American and severely damaged the British Mulberry by June 22, leaving a very tenuous supply line for Allied forces in France.

The fate of Europe is in the balance.

Allied Aircraft:
Spitfire Mk IX
Typhoon
P-51B
Mosquito Mk VI
B-26B

Axis Aircraft:
Bf109G6
Fw190A5
Fw190A8
Bf110-G2
Ju-88

Allied Bases:
Active Airfields - A73, A72, A40
Inactive Fields - V98,99,100,101,102,103
Fighters may fly out of any available airfield.  Bombers are available from A73 and A72.  Vehicle bases cannot be used by aircraft (even for emergency landings).  Any landing at a V base will count as a ditch.

Axis Bases:
Active Airfields - A37, A38, A43
Inactive Airfield - A39
Fighters are available from A37, A38, and A43.  Bombers are available from A37 and A43.  A39 can be used to rearm/refuel or make emergency landings in this frame.

Scoring:
Single Engine Fighters - 10 points
Twin Engine Fighters - 15 points
Twin Engine Bombers - 20 points

Hangers - 200 points
Other ground targets on the hit list other than ack - 50 points
Ack - 5 points

Force split: 50/50

Arena Settings:
- Fuel 1.5
- Icons short
- .51 Ack
- Fighter and Bomber warning range 42,000 (about 8 miles)
- Tower range set to 42,000 (for display only to match the above setting)
- Clouds / visibility (17 miles)
- Radar off
- Friendly collisions off
- Kill shooter off
- Calm winds
- Time: 9 AM

Designer Notes:
1. Ownership of A39 is fluid.  Both sides want it, and both sides have significant ground forces in the area to take it if the air war is favorable.
2. This isn't supposed to be Operation Cobra; I couldn't find 750 people willing to drives tanks.  This is a campaign of limited objectives on both sides; for the allies a prelude to Cobra, for the Germans a way to hold the Allies in check until they can regroup and reinforce.
3. Sorry there weren't any B24s.  They were released after this was set up, and rather than shoehorn them in I thought it better to leave them for another day.  That and they're all in England getting their nacelles polished in preparation for Cobra, which starts on the 24th (25th) of July...  :D

Houston, we have squad comit levels and side requests.

If I follow the requests and give all the "don't care" squads the the LW the numbers are...

(drum roll please)

Allied: 94-127
Axis: 41-61

So...if you've been herded into the LW column against your will repeatedly, as the 68 Lancers and Nightmares have, please speak up.  You only have about eight hours before sides are picked and orders are sent.

Nightmares can fly either .. we been LW, then IJN, will be LW again if need be. The 190 is still a nice plane .. well as long as we don't get the III/Jabostaffel hand me down planes. Takes hours to get the smell and booze stains out of those. ;)

Are you still Knight, or should I sign you up for the Fokker Dr.1??  I mean, not that you being unwashed heathens would have ANY impact on my decision making progress, because you know it wouldn't...
