Title: Animated sea
Post by: Kev367th on November 09, 2004, 07:24:31 AM
Well after all the hype and fuss gotta admit from med to high alt it looks crap.
The only time it looks decent is from low level.
All other times justs looks like someone has spread glitter all over the place, like snow on TV set when it outta tune
Was a nice try, but I think it needs re-thought out.

agreed...

plus...

i think the overall water color needs to be "warmer" ala south pacific... dunno why we have an angry (yet calm) north sea.

I don't use the animation and have found the water is so dark that I actually try to avoid flying around it.

This is new technology. Shaders are new to AH2 and HTC.

Give it time.

Water doesn't animate correctly for me.

I can and will wait for HTC to fix it, after all, at least they are trying.

HTC
Thanks for continuing to develope the game.:aok

Yeah, It porks my monitor, too. And when I turn it off the sea looks almost black. It's almost like tryin to fly at night. I can't see watermelon aghainst the "black" water.  But I know it will evolve to something worthwhile. It certainly is a worthwhile endeavor. I think the whole game is just going to keep getting better 'n better. At least these guys (at HTC) aren't sittin around on their laurels.

I agree that it doesn't look too bad. Room for improvement? Yeah. Let's give these guys a break. They just did a bang up job on the new release. 3 new toys and they worked on the water. It'll come
Peace

Strange - It does not look like this on my machine. In the distance I have white flickering specks (like snow). Up close it looks good. You have a nice blue color in the distance. I use a Radeon 9800 pro 128. Maybe the difference is the graphic card

Acetnt.

im taking the black water over the framerate hit:(   i might just be the current map, been a lot of warp/lag comments since we've been on it.  new map, ill give the animation a go again.

i`ve post it before seems nobody saw it....

if you want to keep the animated water with exceptble FR and don`t mind to lose some of they`re quality (though it makes them look better at a distance) you can use RivaTuner here (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163)  to force your graphic card to use 1.4 sheaders insted of 2.0

 Driver settings(small arrow near customize)->directX(the X image)->shaders->pixel shaders.

Ruin, how do I run RivaTuner?  I downloaded it and extracted it and I cant get it to run, or am I doing it wrong?

when you extract it, it just extract the installer go in to the directory it create and run the installer (guru3d\setup\RivaTuner20RC152.exe) and then just "next" all the way though then it should be in the start menu.

Have to admit, it reminds me of looking at graphics through an old TNT card. Nvidia glittery stuff.

OTOH, it looks like the settings on the card itself may be intensifying it a little.

I'm sure HT will get it dialed in. It's a new toy, all new toys need tweaking. I've never seen them let something stay substandard, or intensionally leave looking bad.

It'll come around ;-)

Tried it, turned it off, too unrealistic and distracting.  Still want warmer and prettier water and land colors, too.

if you have a good enough PC setup you can turn everything to full detail in 1024textures and i think it looks pretty spectacular down low, if a little dark. From alt it still looks ok to me.

If you find that from alt it looks bad, then you are flying too high, get ya cherry pickin arse back on the deck!

Was just saying at the moment it looks garbage, I'm sure it will be refined in the coming months.
Looks too much like it has dandruff from high up.

Think for a flightsim ideally you need a balance and something that looks good from any alt and FPS. Agree with the above posts, early days for the water in AH2 and I think it actually looks pretty good other then for the colour (too blue) and the strange sunlight reflection. Though it also needs to change to a lighter colour around coastlines especially for islands.

Sure it won't be long before it looks alot closer to something like this. And of course without the large frame rate hit that some including myself have experienced with it.
