No way.

It prolly goes without saying, but I'm no Ashcroft fan. What I find curious is why the guys on the right here don't like him either. I guess I just don't see much difference between him and the others.
What don't ya like about him?

He wants to take their porn :D

"Anyone who opposes the Patriot Act is helping the terrorists"-John Ashcroft
I oppose the Patriot act.
And ashcrofts radicleism and the SS way about him.
Also cant respect anyone who would consider nude statues as obscene and have them covered
-
a good ole fashion mix of facism combined with religious nutjob toss in a lack of respect for humanity... with a dash of stupidity... that will get you close.
-
I was all for the patriot act at first because it was used for national security.
But "who will guard the guards?"
that's right this was a trust in the govt and the govt broke that trust when they used this against US citizens that have no ties to terrorism what so ever.
ALSO,
I want it to be known that not ALL of the patriot act is bad, there are parts of it that are long over due needed changes.
hopefully after fallujah is secured Rumsfeild will be next.

It seems like every action he took (except for 2nd Amendment, on which I support him) was in the direction of less freedom for citizens and more federal intrustion into private or local matters.
I'm not sure the next guy will be any better. But at least we got rid of one of them. Kinda like Gray Davis.

I did not have a problem with the guy
& good luck to him in the future

Don Evans is gone! YES!!!! YES!!!!!!! FREEEEEDOM!!!
-
Boo. Yah. Bye bye Asscroft, and to you on your way out.
-
Im agains the patriot act.
Had already existing laws had simply been inforced. There wouldnt have been a 9/11 and no need for a patriot act.
No Im not willing to sacrifice my rights in the name of (illusionary)security.
Not one of them
-
I knew little about him prior to Bush getting elected. I knew he was a man of religion, which I have no problem with, except the Jerry Farwell, Jim Jones, evangelist types...but, when he covered that statue up, I lost all respect for the man.
-
You sounding like a liberal, Rip. All those privates hanging out is too liberal!
Sure - neuter affirmative action - but don't touch the statues privates!
-
Ashcroft had to resign so he can start preparing his 2008 Presidential campaign.
Ya can hardly do justice in a run for President when you are on the cabinet.
First act of President Ashcrofts adminstration will be to outlaw liberals, pinkos and commies. :D
dago
-
It just blows my mind. If you took out the bigots and the evangelical crowd (those folks who don't like privates), Bush wouldn't have been reelected. And Bush was very vague on his stand on privates. Hope it wasn't pandering. :D
-
I guess we'll have to see who replaces him. I'm surprised because I believe Bush is socially conservative in RL (his religion is not the usual political act) and that he was not too far out of line with Ashcroft (hell, he appointed the guy in the first place).
Will the next person be more "moderate" or just more stealthy and publicly acceptable?
Charon
BTW - the Supreme court thing... probably not but this administration can be full of surprises. I can't see him making it through the approval process though.

Issue by issue. Lets not bring up the racist AA. ;)
I admire people who are deeply religious, but don't preach it to me, and covering up art is a nutcase in disguise.
-
The patriot act went too far. I just get the feeling alot of people forgot just exactly who voted that into place.
Ashcroft needed to go. He was a prime example of exploitation of loopholes and an actual disregard for laws. What really amazes me here is the people that say "I'm amazed conservatives don't like this guy."
Next thing you know the same people will be telling us what a wonderful person Janet Reno was (in comparison to ashcroft) and actually expect people to believe they aren't spewing rhetoric.
-
Who vetoed the patriot act? - oh thats right- nobody.
-
vetoed, voted... both the same thing.
Just the o and e are misplaced and there's an extra e.

Ok, this is a separate post. Affirmative action is racist? Now let me get this straight, the government SHOULD promote spiritualism, by promoting prayer in schools. W'eve done established NOBODY can keep another from praying silently anywhere at anytime. So the need for a moment of silence can only be to PROMOTE spiritualism.
But you don't think the government should promote trade with the race that was enslaved for 300 years in America?
Promote spiritualism but not equality - got it - i think...
(oh and of course legalized privates. I'm still working out these "traditional values" we live under)

I've never heard even close to that sentiment here. The closest I've heard to that is my post right here in this thread, which was not "amazed" (however much that word lends yer post some kinda oomph), but merely curious.
No drama, was just asking.
-
I don't think anyone is truly amazed either. Ashcroft and Bush only fall under this thing called "traditional values" which is a paper tiger. It has absolutely no substance (and it can be easily proven to have none). Its a false idol, a vehicle to focus human's knack for denial.
Its really natural for a human sitting in a dump to convince himself its hilly landscape and the rats are hedge hogs.
America is far from a dump, but it has problems. Its a human response to deny them rather than expend the effort to fix them.
-
Ashcroft is the single most responsible person for defending the United States against another AQ attack in the months and years since 9/11! (God bless the Patriot act! may the bastards run and hide). To suggest otherwise just lifts any burden of proof that you are an idiot and a moron......of which there are an ignorant fistfull of here on this bsb (most are europukes and canadipukes, with a few australiapukes and new zealanderpukes thrown in for good measure.... but whats really detestable is the scrotal sack full of ameripukes, oooh the eeevilness).
Ashcroft is an american hero.
-
When my opinion is the opposite of Eagler and Yeager, I know I'm on the up side of sanity.
-
Too bad for America he was more worried about porn and bongs than terrorism before 9/11.
-
You're tipping your hand Yeager :D
Now I gota go back and read some of your posts- duh

don't take it all so personal nash. That was directed more at tweety.
Though... it's about the 5th time I've seen the question asked when the subject of ashcroft came up. Is it so hard to believe that people don't have to like absolutely everyone in an administration?
There's very little defendable about ashcroft's performance. I do find it funny when people try to pin the Freedom Act on him. He abused the hell out of it... once it passed... overwhelmingly... almost unanimously.
But just ask tweety... it's all bush's fault for not vetoing something that every other politician was afraid to say no to.
-
oooh.......a member of the american nazi party, now thats really going to make you sound legitamate. You must be a sKerry voter,....yeah, the guy that LOST BY 3.5 MILLION VOTES...loser
-
Hmmm....
Reno = Ruby Ridge, Waco, and the Cuban kid in Florida. And people are whining about Ashcroft? Ashcroft can't hold a candle against Reno's violations.
-
Thats a good point, since people are so very very quick to call Ashcroft a nazi id just looove to hear their opinion of an Attorney General who had her snipers and agents shoot a woman in the head at Ruby Ridge and burn many other Americans to death at Waco aftere storming their home, err I mean "compound" with Bradly fighting vehicles and bulldozer equpped main battle tanks...
-
Janet Reno and John Ashcroft come from the same mold.
Spawns of Himmler himself.

You obviously havent read ANY of my posts with reguard to the election over the last couple months or you wouldnt have made such an obtuse statement.
I suggest you go back and read my posts, lest you make yourself look any more foolish
I do not align the Republican party with the Nazis as some Democrats do.
I do however view the Patirot Act And John Ashcrofts implementation of it as something more akin to people in organisations like the Gestapo or KGB or perhaps Mcarthy supporters would agree with.
Those or the cowardly or extremely paranoid.
To THOSE people be they Republican,Democrat or independant, Ashcroft would be a hero.
You can take your pick which group you belong to.

Bye.

Oh and I voted Bush.
but just to play devils advocate for a moment, one might point out that 3.5 million votes in todays election is a pretty slim margin.
But hey it does sound better then 3%

AA has been discussed to death in here, do a search and you'll get 6 pages of replies. Here is one example:

Great, you should be able to give some examples of all the evil "Al-Qaeda" sleeper cells Ashcroft and his goons rounded up in the post 9/11 period then. I look forward you telling me about them, 'cos I sure can't find any good examples in the places I've looked to date.
-
momas... I don't care that much either way but... can you name some sucessful terrorist attacks that were perpetuated in the U.S. under ashcrofts regeim?
Maybe his policies and execution were inefective... fortunately... for all of us, we don't have any proof of that.

Well, apart from the Sept 11th attacks......
none.
How many actual Al-Qaeda cells has he shut down. Same number by my reckoning. So either;
a) He isn't catching them despite all the spin to the contrary
or
b) The threat is being hyped.
-
or... they aren't sticking their heads up to be whacked off. I simply find it hard to believe that the terrorists wouldn't hit us if they could...
so either the terrorists don't hate us at all and think that we are right or... they can't effectivly attack us for some reason.

Or there is just a lot less of them than our leaders are making out.

jeepers momas Im really sad your not in charge of anything substantial. like national security or director of central intel, but aside from that, Im sure you know all about it.
-
Ironically, it sounds like he was the closest thing to a Taliban proponent you'll find in any Western government, anywhere in the world. I mean, covering up nude statues...
Sadly, he was born too late for the Spanish Inquisition.
-
I heard it explained by a pretty reliable primary source (can't mention exactly who since it was off the record, but a previous post might give a clue), that Al Queda used up all their readily avail. expendable human capital in the last attack (at least US based). Getting skilled people who are also willing to die is not as easy as might be assumed.
The same source predicts a major attack within 3 years (perhaps bigger than 9/11), likely one where the terrorists come into the US immediately before the attack is executed.
Charon
-
let me get this straight... there were only a dozen terrorists here ever and it will take three years for another dozen to hitchhike over so we don't really need to have any anti terrrorist program?
fine with me... they only attack blue areas anyway.
