Gents,
Can anyone please recommend a good pop up stopper program? I'm looking for a program that is free and is on when I boot up my computer. I hate to have to runn adware and CW Shredder and spybot all the time. If I can find a program that is active all the time it will help save me lots of aggrevation.

I use Mozilla Firefox.

Sounds like have some MalWare already infecting your system.
Some of that stuff is very difficult to get rid of.
If your getting pop ups without even opening your browser, you have something nasty going on.
As for a Free popup blocker, I like Google Toolbar. Just go to Google and Search for Google Toolbar. install it and you will have most all pop ups blocked.

google toolbar :D

You need to run Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy ... both are free.
-
You might try stopping by http://www.spywareinfo.com and go to the forums for help. They WILL get your system fixed.
Then once it's fixed definitely switch to Mozilla Firefox and stop getting popups and spyware/malware forever. http://www.mozilla.org

Google toolbar works great and it's free

If you are plagued with LOTS of popups becuase you actually have spyware and malware on your system (and it sounds like you do if you are repeatedly running Spybot and CWSShredder), then using a popup stopper is like putting a band-aid over a skin cancer.
Sure, you've hidden the problem from view... for now... but the problem will soon grow, and its visible effects will overwhelm the popup stopper like that skin cancer growing past the band-aid, and then one day your system won't boot and will be dead in the water.

the ISP earthlink has a free pop up stopper for their clients, you can turn it on or off on your browser toolbar and set the level of protection.
-
Of course, you cold just switch to FireFox and not have to worry about spyware or popup blockers. I turned all mine off after I started using the latest and greatest to date (Free) open source browser on the net.

Yahoo! also has a Pop-Up blocker on its toolbar. Works great. There is also an adware remover program. Its fast and easy. Oh, and free.

Mozilla....end of story
Using IE at this point in time is akin to walking on a freeway at night wearing all black......somethings gona hit you....HARD.....SOON.

I give FireFox the vote here too. I switched two weeks ago and I love it.

If you have XP, just run all the updates. IE has a built in Pop-up blocker.
If you have spybot, update this and run the imunization. I will also block bad sites from infecting you with junk.

"already" infected? What's the average time till infection of unprotected windows boxes connected to the net? 10 seconds?

WIth the major critical exploits being hammered against IE every week or two, it doesnt take long. All the IE user has to do is go to a website dedicated to installing spyware/adware. These types of sites are VERY VERY common, and do everything they can to come up very high on Google and Yahoo type search engines, by putting up popular keywords and linking to thousands of other like minded sites.
If you NEVER go outsite of known sites, and you never type in URLs manually (cause many of these site are very close to popular site so thousands go there in error by mistyping google or gamespot or whatever) then your IE will probably serve you ok......problem is the exploits come so fast that MS cant keep up and most exploits are in use infecting millions of PCs a week or two before a fix comes out.
Besides....tabed browsing rocks!

Even if you don't even open your browser...

Firefox rules!
Yes I have spyware S & D, yes I have adaware SE, use them maybe twice a year.
Rest of the time Firefox takes care of things.
And the thunderbird email client automaticly sorts the junk mail. MAJOR plus in my book.

One more vote for Mozilla Firefox!
Works great and one can even disable annoying adds from pages (in addition to pop-ups).
I used to have Netscape and Naviscope. Did not get pop-ups with those either, but adds were difficult to get rid of.

if you do a search on the web for free pop up stopper youll find the one and only original free pop up stopper:)

I use Panicware's pop-up stopper. Haven't seen a pop-up since I installed it.

I'm gonna let XP Service Pack 2 gestate for a while. It will have more holes in it than Scott Peterson's alibi.
