Wow what a way to start the day than with a 5K marathon.
I havn't ran this far since I was a young Marine and my bones and muscles are a hurting.
BUT I did manage to finish in 25:54. I'm happy with the time at least considering I am a smoker.
Anyone else run Marathons here?
-
Way to go. Was it an organized race or just a morning jog?
-
5K? Inches? Feet?

Yes this was the 7th annual Garry Powers memorial 5k turkey trott.
Garry Powers is a former 1st Sgt. here and this run raises money to buy presents for kids of Military families that may be struggling this holliday season.
AKS\/\/ulfe: because I am tired I will give you a simple explenation
5k = 5 kilometers.....roughtly equal to 3.2 miles
-
Eeee, I would hit the wall so hard after the first half mile my heart would explode.

Congrats.
Btw, a marathon refers to a specific race of 26.2 miles.

HORRIBLE TIME? I'm a smoker for god's sake! Plus the second mile was all up hill! That's what killed my pace and kicked my ass.
I kicked it into gear though when Korn "chutes and ladders" came on the ole MP3 player.
I usually run a timed 1.5 mile in 10:30....I havnt ran farther than that for a time in a few years.
Anyone else do charity runs often?
OH BGB,
She's biting her tounge for right now. Hopefully the new owners will be taking over next week. If that doesn't happen she's gonna say something.

5k is a normal cross country run for highschool athetes 3.1 miles best on my sons squad ran a 16:27 my son not so good 18 :38 oh well quit smokin it aint good for ya
-
The Marine Corps Fitness test has a timed 3 mile run. To score a max amount of points you must cross before 18:00. The best I ever did (19 years old) was 18:45. I usually finished around 21:30.
-
Personal record, 18:19.
Average: 20
-
I havet run in over a year, year and a half. I know I could go out there and do 5k in about 30 minutes. When Im out of practice I can still maintain 9-10 minute miles. And I smoke a pack a day.
:D

You guys crack me up.
to Gunslinger. At least he's doing it.
How many of you are lazy, fat, I can do better than that(only in your own mind), people who stare at a computer monitor, never to move farther than the bathroom, or kitchen? Who cares what the time was. Doesn't anyone have anything positive to say anymore?

My PB's
5k-18'30"
10k-39'32"
10k(with baby in stroller)-53'
1/2 Marathon-1hr 26min
30k(Hamilton Around The Bay Race) 2hr 35min
Full Marathon 3hr 26min
Last month some guy ran the Toronto Marathon with a 2 yr old in stroller in 2hr 45min.. (World record)
Memories...
Sprinting the last mile in a 1/2 marathon trying to do under 1hr 30 for first time..and watching a 60+ year old man in full stride blow on by.
Hamilton 30k...at the half way mark there is a lift bridge which started lifting as the lead pack approached...Runners from around the world cursing in every language for 10minutes..so a small sail boat could pass...ooops..Wtg race organizers

Thank god, its so nice to hear some postivie rational thoughts, I mean here is a guy who admits hes a smoker but still goes out and runs this To Gunslinger for giving it a shot. Frankly a time like that is not bad at all. But everyone has to post how fast they can do it or how fast their kid can do it. Well ya know what stop living through your kid ya handsomehunk. Congrats Gunslinger and hope your lungs have recovered.

I cannot believe, knowing what we do about the damaging effects of cigarettes, that anyone still smokes in this day and age.
You need to quit.

SirLoin,
The trophy for "youngest runner" went to a 3 1/2 month old boy who finished the run in 32 minutes. His mother finished a half second after he did ;)
Let me tell you though. Not having ran that far in quite a while MY ANKLES ARE KILLING ME TODAY.
I really don't care about the time. My co-worker "stretch" who runs distance regularly finished 2 minutes ahead of me.
when I told him I tried to catch him on the back stretch but ran out of steam he simply replied "everyone has to run there own race" and I think that's applicable here.
Airhead I've tried to quit a grand total of 15 times and none has lasted more than a week. I'm thinking of trying again in january. The last time almost ended my marraige.
EDIT:
THE COOLEST THING WAS I WON A RAFLE PRIZE!
My son and I will be doing our brand new CHIA SHREK!

OH MY a chia Shrek that is simply amazing, Shrek is my favorite movie and I can not believe this product has been out in the market and I am just now finding out about it. I have gotta get one of these.

Did a 10K over the summer. Thought about running a marathon next year. Will probably continue to think about it.
I run generally between 3-4 miles every other day. Since I am a big fat guy in the Army (5'10, 200lb) I have to run and work out constantly to keep myself in shape.
Good job on the 5K. Quit the cancer sticks and it will get a lot easier. Trust me, I stopped about five years ago and my runs got a lot easier.

I was active Army for over 10 years, just got out a few months ago. I run that much at least 3-4 times a week. If I ran a time like that I wouldn't post it. Carry on.

Guns, take some Glucosamine Sulfate. It's great stuff for joints and cartilage. I have a rotator cuff injury and rarely notice it anymore. If I stop taking it the pain shows back up in a week or two.
