Title: Will this card play the game well?
Post by: OOZ662 on November 13, 2004, 07:05:29 PM
I'm looking into buying a more beefey video card, and this looks okay to me. Will this thing work with the shadows and provide decent FR with an Intel 2.6 GHz Northwood CPU and more than a gig of RAM?

Also, anybody have a clue as to the voltage it uses? The max I can run on my plug is 115.

GeForce FX 5200 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-087&depa=1)

I don't have any AGP slots either.

The 5200 is probably the best PCI card you can get, but it's not very fast at all compared to almost any other video card.  It will run AH ok, but it's simply not in the same class as newer AGP cards.  Not having an AGP slot is bad.  That 5200 is probably the best you'll be able to do until you get a new motherboard.

Many people in the same situation as you (no AGP slot) are playing AH with nvidia 5200 series video cards and they report that it runs fine.  Shop around because they should be well under $100.

Hi OZZ662 I have a fx5200 (PCI) and know a few others who have it, its a decent card and will play AH2 fine (as long as your not worried to much about eye candy). I'd say its worth the money and with a 2.6gig CPU your system should run it fine, I've got a 2.5 Ghz intel with the fx5200 and 640MB of ram and I get steady FPS.
