Title: Eve Online
Post by: NUKE on November 15, 2004, 08:05:16 PM
So is this game a hard/boring game to start playing at intro levels?

I haven't played AH in months and may be looking into a new game for a change. After reading that story by the guy who scammed blueprints in EVE, I have read more about it and have become interested in the game.

Does it take long to gain enough skills/stuff to start having fun playing EVE?

Is EVE the kind of game in which the developers "nerf" skills or equipment after you work months to gain that skill and/or equipment.... in order to "balance" the game for a bunch of whiners?

Any insights are appreciated.

Having read that story, if true and accurate, should give you some insiht into the time commitment neccesary to develop the skills and resources to really enjoy the game.  Personally I'm turned off by it, it seems to be a big commitment and I'd rather just be in AH. ;)

The game is adictive...   If it 'sucks you in' it is very hard to walk away.  Be warned....

I enjoyed it, but like all RPGs, you're never going to accel and "beat" any hardcore fellas over there, because they're advancing at the same pace you are.  In the end, it comes down to more of a chore for me.  It is indeed fun once you move on to bigger and better ships.  The vastness of the Eve universe and the sheer number of things to do is what drew me in.

We have an AH corporation currently.  I plan on returning at some point in the future when I get the craving. :)

Nuke,
I played the game for about a month mabye a big longer, its a great game but I felt very alone in it, I was part of a corporation with a bunch of other AH BBS guys and that made it better. I guess it was just not my cup of tea coming directly from AH where there was alot of interaction all the time. Again its a great game and I would suggest giving it a shot and seeing what you think.

RT,

This kind of game is one that I think I might like.....as long as the developers don't change the rules mid-game like Ultima Online's developers did.

I played Ultima Online for a few years but quit playing after OSI nerfed it ( and my skills) to please some crybabies.

Ultima online was the best for me.

3 years of hard playing.

It was THE MMORPG for me..

Then came the whiny biatches.....

PKs killed me and took my stuff....Whaaa!

Next thing you know, they come out with Felucca, and Trammel.

2 Worlds, exactly the same but one had NO PKing.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the end of Ultima Online.

One Stupid decision was all it took.

Nuke, what was your chars. name? Where did you hang out?

Muck

Claw was main char on Hokuto. The Japanese were a lot of fun.
I had a high level theif with stealth, blacksmith and a mid level tamer. Remember when they nerfed tamers?

After Trammel and the PK penalties ( I was never a PK, but LOVED that part of the game) I bought an account on ebay in the Seige shard. The Main char here is Thrandarian, a 7 GM fencer.

Seige Perilous was almost like the original UO, but not the same. Sure you could find PK's, but you couldn't really make money or have other Chars.

Kind of disgusting what OSI did to that game.

I still have the two accounts. One castle, one log cabin, some rares and all my chars. I guess I have too much money and keep these accounts alive for the nostagia

No, no, I mean between AH, Eve, other games, etc, etc, etc.

$15 a month multiple times suddenly turns into a real "bill."

Actually the post of the scam intrigued me too- I just don't want to sit around watching pebbles load into a spaceship for an hour at a time.

It might be fun to be a pirate, tho.

Tried it. Mined. Mined some more. Killed pirates. Set up a Corp. Told people to mine. Bought blueprints. Got us Cruisers. Killed more pirates. Mined even more.

Then I realized the game bored me to hell and back.

I think I logged into AH once in the past 3 months.

I think the day of the Sub Cancel may be coming soon.

Nothing against AH.

It's just run it's course for me.

I did not even know Ultima still existed!

Is there a free trial period?

Prior to hooking up with the AHSF, and playing Eve I had never played a MMRPG. What I always liked about AH, was that no matter how good or bad you were, no matter how much you played, the same equipment was available to you, as to anyone else in the arena (Perk Points not withstanding).

So I wasn't sure that I would like Eve, where there could be such vast equiptment gaps.

But hey, there was a free month trial available at the time, so I jumped in. It was much more fun than I had guessed it would be, although the first week is pretty boring.

But there are quite a few things to do out there. When one thing gets boring, move on to the next.

I can't see myself playing forever, but its a lot of fun.
