I would like to get a solid hour or so of time with a trainer. Should I schedule that time or just drop in on the training arena?
Specifically here's some background on me and what I am after:
- I'm a 4 year vet of Warbirds but have been retired for nearly 4 years.
- I have a solid feel for the basics of flying AH but yet could use some help with learning the commands...especially radio usage.
I really need help in the following areas:
- Closing speeds. AH planes seem to close MUCH faster than WB's so I constantly find myself overshooting my intended target.
- "Seeing" the enemy. The icon fonts show up just fine. In fact they are too good imo. I find myself focused on the rolling numbers and not on the actualy aircraft I am chasing. The numbers seem to roll so fast (see closing speed above) compared to WB's single digits system that I find it almost confusing and definitely distracting.
- Seeing, understanding, and actually following enemy plane icons. Not the icon fonts, but the airplane "dots" themselves. Seems I can't see much of them at all until I am right on top of them. I.E. - I have a hard time telling which way they are turning. Can't see their wings until it's nearly too late, etc, etc. In other words it's almost as though the plane icons are too small until I get way too close. I would like to be able to see wings dip and such from D600 or so, but I can't. In WB's I can see this at D6 easily.
So is someone available to set up a training time for some one on one?
Thank you!

I think spending some time with a trainer is always a good idea...especially one who comes from WB if possible....
What your describing though is just rust, get some hours in and you'll be fine. Your mentally used to WB and obviously there are differences...you adjust naturally over just a few weeks. If you happen to be knight just hollar...happy to wing with ya for a few. Just look at the space ~800 behind me...usually something there:)

Win XP
AMD 2700+
Gforce 5500 256 MB
1024 MB RAM
I have video set at 1024 x 768. Was thinking I could drop it down just to see if it helps increase the icon size. My monitor is a 19" and I use a fresnel lens. You'd think that would be ok, so maybe a lot of it is just getting back into things and getting use to the changes.
But I'd still like a little training session just to refresh myself a bit.

Brazin,
Here is a link to the One Page Quick Reference (http://www.netaces.org/ahsetup/AH2%20Quick%20Ref%201.0.pdf) at my site. Should help with the commands. Check out my How to Use the Radio (http://www.netaces.org/ahradio/radio.html#title) page for info on the radios.

Shoot me a line & we'll set up a time.
BTW I had 4 years in WB's.
Been here since beta, and I've been a trainer here for almost 4 years.

E-mail sent Ghosth. Thanks for your reply!

I wouldn't mind getting some pointers also. I'm an average pilot but I tend to make bad choices and get caught out of position, low-n-slow, bandit on my six then dead.
Things I think I need help with:
1. Entering the fight. What's the best target, who should I be watching out for.
2. The merge! I lose a lot of these.
3. Defensive maneuvers/Reversals.
4. Gunnery. Which is really just practice.

My email is there, feel free to give me a shout!
Also anyone who is having problems should be going to http://www.netaces.org and doing lots of reading.
Hammer does a terrific job with this site.

Will do, thanks Ghosth.
Yeah, Hammer does a great job. I learned tons of good stuff there.

GhostH was my Trainer when I got in to AH a couple years ago. He is really good at everything.
Also..when in the MA if your flying on the Knights Side...I'd be more than Happy to give you a hand if I can. If you simply want to ride along and watch..just ask. I'll make a trip or 2 to the TA as well if ya like and I'm not to busy with the squad.:aok

Thats a heck of an offer from Redtop guys. Take him up on it!
You can learn a lot by flying a couple of sorties with guys like redtop. Either as wingman, observer, or just flying in the same space watching him.
Its guys like Redtop that make trainers like me feel proud to have helped.

Sorry I missed you last night Ghosth. I didn't get home from work until nearly 7:00 my time and was just flat out dead tired.
