Picked mine up today. I'll get a full review up this weekend. So far it seems very nice!
If only HT could give us a joystick band for ZOOM...the slider would be perfect for it!
-
What I want to know is does it fit your hand better then the original.
That band that goes over your hand specifically?
-
im very interested on how people rate this...my X45 is dying and i need a new stick (im a saitek guy....) and well im waiting on the results of X52 flyers.......

Depth is the same, but the ADJUSTABLE height of that part is increased a good inch or so for larger hands......but keeps it good for smaller hands with the pinky and palm rest adjusting up and down.

Was checking out the site... It says the rudder is in the stick now, "twisty-stick" deal??? I'm still not used to the throttle rudder on the 45, so when I get back from England I might just pick this puppy up...
ALF, I'm looking forward to your full review, hope the stick turns out to be worth it!

im also waiting to hear about the x52 , my ms pp2 has about had it , and the x 52 looks quite impresssive

From Saitek (http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x52.htm): "non-contact technology on X and Y axes", so I'd say it's optical, not using pots.
-
can trim be mapped to the rotaries without that "band" crap?
-
Yes. Just pick the trim you want to set and map it to "Rotary 1" (or Rotary 2, etc.) in the joystick selection in AH.
-
Does it have slack between upper and lower part of the stick, does it have slack if you twist it?
How much slack there is when measured from the highest part of the stick in X- and Y-axes?
Does the hat switches have the same feel as the X-45(it had ****ty microswitches)?
I'll buy it at once if I'm certain that I don't need to spend hours to tweaking it and voiding it's warranty.
-
I have mine on order but would welcome early info on the "clutch button" and the "mouse wheel with inbuilt button".
-
does this use USB ports?
1 or 2?
-
What did you guys pay for yours anyway?

you can do that with an x45 ever since AHII beta 11 or something.
-
from the saitek site
3D rudder twist

Is it possible to lock the twisty?

Thank you guys!!!
I tried that when first got my X45, and gave up in frustration. Never knew it could now be done. You've made my day!
(Obviously a fairly small day for me, but I'll take what I can get....)

Ok guys bought mine yesterday at Best Buy for $129.00.
I simply love this thing. Heck, it has a digital screen readout on the throttle. I did not like the x45 so I did not ever buy one. This one looked so dang awesome I had to buy it just to check out all the pretty lights :0).
All hats, switches and buttons light up along with a blue back lit info screen on the throttle. It is very smooth and even though you can lock the rudder from the twisty, the rudder operated very well and not all the time when you dont want it to.
There are so many switches, sliders, hats, buttons and rotaries, that I will only have to touch my keyboard to type from now on.
Now setting it up took me about an hour or a little longer. It is very intuitive.
Uses one USB port.
All else I will say is, just buy one if you can afford it. It is the most advanced stick on the market!!!

One quick question though... Does Aces High recognize the 2nd hat switch? I still can't get it to recognize the 2nd hat on my X-45 (s'posed to be a 8 way switch, only get four out of it).
-
The clutch button acts to disengage the functions of all buttons, switches, etc, while in flight so that you can work on programing in flight and not be firing stuff, dropping gear, bailing, etc. :)
The stick is very comfortable and adjustable to different hand sizes.
Again if you can afford it, you owe it to yourself to just test drive one. Theres always the option of return with no money loss if you dont like it. But I doubt anyone would.

Yes oh yes, there is nothing this thing cannot do. You just have to use the programming software to set each addition hat up to your commands. Also, all hats have optional setting for either 4 way or 8 way use.
-
I have but one question.
I have an X45 now...The rudder is one the throttle side. Underneath the throttle. I didn't really like the twisty stick when I had my FFB Microsoft.
Is there a similar setup on that X52? I can lock the twist part yet still have a rudder there and not the keyboard?

You must download the latest SST softwaresaitek downloads (http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/down/drivers.htm) from Saitek's website. There was an issue with the box software not working correctly with the 2nd hat and one of the hats only was a 4 way. I never saw this as I knew about it before I bought it and downloaded the software. I have never had a problem with mine not working as 8 way switches in AH or any other game.

Sure, at least in AH. AH allows you to set a seperate controler for each axis if you want.

Yes, you can lock the twisty rudder with a rudder lock button or just set the deadbands to be much less sensitive on it. And yes you can set up a rudder with many other hat or slider switches on the throttle or stick.

With my ole Top Gun Fox 2 stick from TM, i think im falling behind on technology.. :(

Read the review you did....Good Job.
I would really like to get one of these..but that Twisty Rudder thing...I just don't know that I want to go back to that. I don't use rudder pedals right now. My X45 with the rudder underneath I'm used to.
ANyway...Great read and thanks. I'll probably still check it out.:aok

whats the "feel" of the stick? my x45 is kinda sloppy...

I would like to have my trim tabs on the rotary switches. I cant find the rotary switches in the stick mapping, they just dont show up :(

if you have the programming software loaded, and banded them, they will not show up as axis.
in the programming you have to make them "analog" or whatever again.

wow....great review alphie....
As for X-52...got to get one. "Two stage" trigger just great for certain rides:aok
-
one for Santas List for sure
but same time I will keep my eye out for the X45 "clearance" sales ...

I have an X-45 and after a year or so of heavy use I've been fairly impressed. My single biggest beef is the damned pinky switch designed to permanently deform my pinky, I think it was designed for folks with small hands. My 2nd beef is after a while the spring loaded centering device they use wears and causes some pretty massive "sticktion" I lube it occasionally and that helps. The plus side is that everything still works, if Saitek could put all the goodies on a traditional gimbaled base they'd have a winner.
So, how's the X52's pinkie switch? Any refinements to the centering device?
Thanks,
g00b

goob
you know you can pop out the trigger grip pinkie hook thingy in the X45 right?
-

small screwdriver will pop it off before it breaks

Thanks for the heads-up!
I just bought a reconditioned X45 stick & throttle set for $39 (free shipping to boot!) It'll replace my old CH hotas setup which will not work with WinXP even with the XP boot disk gimmick created by Blazerbruce.
