This thread is a tangent to another thread that was getting off course.
Im sure we are well aware of the ongoing escalation in Iraq. With the big battle to retake fallujah, the insurgents stronghold, now over, the coast is clear for peaceful elections right?
Does anybody really think that these elections are going to be truly democratic and free? Does anybody think that the US is willing to spend $500,000,000,000.00 only to have a pro Iranian govt get elected to power there? How about a pro Syrian govt?
Is Iraq going to be the Enron of the US? Banking its future on a big pool of oil? only to go belly up after irreversably crippling the Company? Can anybody tell me what the hell bush's exit strategy is in Iraq? There is no way we can leave all that oil for the terrorists. Then they will be able to aquire nukes and WMD's!
The 'stop loss' policy is in full effect, forcing brave marines to stay in Iraq long after there service is fulfuilled. Nobody is stepping up to the plate at the recruiting offices.
problem..We cant stay forever, and we cant go on like this. There is only one answer, full blown ethnic cleansing of Iraq.
And the 3rd and final world war.
O sht its Sunday isnt it....Everybody, open your bibles to revelations 9:11 and read to the end.

what a great attitude. "We've allready lost and we're gonna screw it up in the end so why bother"
What would you think if I said the elections will result in a pro-Iraqi govt? You want to assume we are losing over there right now but I tell you what, fallujah has broken the terrorists back. They went all out all the way up to Nov. 2nd to try and influence the elections and they failed. They couldn't possibly keep up the tempo they were working at.
We are currently there at the request of the interim Iraqi Govt. If they ask us to leave we leave. As far as oil is concerned If you want to buy into the "America's stealing Iraqi oil" theory be my guest.
as far as stoploss is concerned, We've hasd stoploss and IRR recalls since sept 12th 2001. It's clearly in the contract that you sign that you enlist for a total of 8 years and can be kept in service for the duration of a conflict plus 6 months.
I should know on nov 15th 2001 I got a fedex package in the mail with plane tickets and orders that said be at camp pendleton in 12 days. This after a taste of civilian life for 11 wonderfull months. You can banter all you want but facts are facts.

The Bush administration has always said that Iraqs oil belongs to the Iraqi people. If we are after oil wells why didnt we just stay camped out in Kuwait after GW1?
I believe the Iraqi people will vote in a government that they believe is best for them.

falluja is done, the insurgents cant carry all their ammo and explosives everywhere. This gurilla war is actually very strategic. I think its all about findng their storage areas and eliminating their defenses there just like you would bomb the ball berring factories etc...

Elections are possible amidst civil chaos. Example: US presidential election of 1864.
