Title: Need Someone to Recommend a Game FAST!
Post by: Muckmaw1 on November 21, 2004, 09:44:26 AM
I'm looking for a new game that does not require a ton of committment.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a WWII shooter or something like it.

I know you guys have the same taste in gaming as I do, so this BBS is better than any review site.

I'm not going with Rome Total War because it's too cerebral.

I don't like Futuristic stuff.

What's the one you guys are talking about? Medal of Honor, or Day od Defeat or What about battlefield Vietnam.

Something more cerebral than quake but not as heavy as Rome Total war.

Thanks in advance

Screw it.

I'll try Rome Total War after all.

I'm totally AH burned out.

Thanks, anyway.

Rise of Nations is not to bad if you like that type of game.  You can even play during the times of the cold war and nuke russia if you get bored.

Well you requested a FPS type game ....

Perhaps castle wolfstien

I myself like the the command type games more
Red alert 2, yuris revenge, generals /zero hour, Warcraft 3,anno 1503, medevil conquest , ect  along with the racing games ..

But then you could always get one of those Sim's type games and put your mum inlaw on the rack .. .. .. ... .... repeatedly :p

Rome Total War is the bomb dude. It's addicting as ****. Can't go wrong picking it up. Lots of game play too. I've been playing it steady for a couple of weeks now and would say I'm not even a 1/4 through my first campaign.

I've been playing a bit of Steel Panthers lately, but I'm worse at that than I was at AH even. Still, it's a good time killer and it won't make you sweat the way FPS do.

I bought HL2 last night and after installing it was just to tired to play. It was like going to an insurance seminar, but more tedious.

You're in for a treat Creamo :)

With the CDs, many errors have been reported.  The game itself is much more fun than the install.

Free WW2 FPS, multiplayer only with integrated punkbuster.

Wolfenstien Enemy Territory (http://www.3dgamers.com/games/wolfensteinet/downloads/)

There are 5 character classes that have to work together to win a mission, so it is a little more complex than quake.

Max Payne

Besides it being the only game other than Fighter Ace III that will run on my laptop it has great gameplay and you're not really bound by anything except staying alive.

The bullet-time feature allows you to slow time down to the point you can dodge bullets and surprise unsuspecting enemies all while retaining real-time aiming.  This is very useful when there are 10 bad guys around the corner and you need to dispatch them quickly with your one Beretta.

I know its an old game, but for $10 at Walmart the story and graphics are extremely well done, and worth the price.

Operation flashpoint had me hooked when i first got it.  Awesome game, easy to pick up, great storyline, great game.  And should be really cheap now as the second one is coming (maybe already out?)

Call of duty is amazing too.  Cant beat capturing then defending Pegasus bridge.

Scenario Paintball. When you do it for 26 hours, with role-playing, simulated medics, demos, engineers, helos, and sometimes even real or specialty tanks.

I've won the short campaign from 5 different sides, but the long campaign is kicking my arse. I get 60-80 years into it and i cannot stop the revolts. I know that the further from the capital I get the worse the cities get but I'm supposed to get 50 provinces and that means stepping out a bit.

What am I missing here?

I'm still playing Medal of Honor: Allied Assault...

And our unit is still going strong..

Of course we like to ***** and whine about what would be cool if AA had this and that, and we end up going, oh there is a game out with that...

Dunno man, I'm only about 60 or 70 years into it. Haven't had much problems with revolts. I exterminate the population in all the cities I take and keep at least 15 units in each one. I'm a real ******* of a tyrant. Seems to work so far.

Well, the Medal of honor games aren't bad, but those in the 1942 series are simply arcade games.

For a first-person WWII shooter game, I'd suggest Call of Duty and the recent add-on.

Oh, and while cheat codes are available, don't bother with them as it really takes away from the challenge of the game.

My regards,

Widewing

Can't argue that. I hate playing in the woods actually. Give me a nice, flat, small field & sup'air bunkers (ultimate air? er, whatever they use nowadays). I'm one of the few though that actually really enjoys both types of paintball.

Made it to EMR so far, but not Skirmish :( I believe some of my previous teammates made a few though. Used to play for the Mayberry Marauders before I dropped out of the sport. I still work for Viper Scenarios (http://www.viperpaintball.com)  though on occasion.

You got that one right.  Im not much for FPS or whatever these are called, but have been really into this. The AI is terrific and the puzzles not too extra hard. I don't understand the story line much but have been having a blast.

Im now in Sands or whatever it's called level and am stuck. Still trying all kinda things. Usually I just give up and play something else, but I have enough invested in it now it's personal...

I'm in Ravenholm in HL2, kind of picked up most of the story from one of those vortigaunts (had to keep pressing e to keep him talking) when I stopped my fan boat.

The head crabs look like turkeys when view from above and their legs are tucked underneath them. Just in time for thanksgiving.

I usually just try crap out when I find people that aren't trying to kill me. Found out early on that people and friendly creatures were interactive when I walked up to one of the Combine guards. I pressed e, he said "move along", did it again and he lit up his batton. Just for the hell of it, I did it again and he hit my ass. Screen went white and I woke up about 40 feet away. I tried it again, but this time stood a bit back and began to ran away when he moved. He chased for a while, then stopped and went back to his post.
