Title: One Pass, One Kill
Post by: Fury on November 22, 2004, 09:30:46 AM
Here's a sequence of a perfect fighter pass on a bomber group.  The fighter has come in from high 7 on the bombers to make a pass at them.

Don't let this first picture fool you....the fighter is not camping on the bomber's 6, hoping to take out the formation.  He's just come out of his dive, in perfect shooting distance and still near full throttle, and is shooting for the lead plane and not the drones.

After three short bursts on the lead plane, the fighter's aim is perfect and he has blown in inboard engine on the right wing.

The fighter doesn't wait around to kill some more, he continues to blow through the formation, satisfied he has taken out one of the bombers.  Here, you can see him grinning and flipping the bird back to the formation.

The entire confrontation, from when the fighter leveled out of his dive and began firing to blowing the wing off the lead plane, was three seconds.

nice post, BUT:

you should be able to take out two bombers in one pass no problem. then 'up and over' for the last one.

this being said, its not easy to kill buffs in a P40, WTG.

Personally i would have got alt over the bombers, flown about its 2 o clock position, dove in, attack cockpit area from the bombers 3 o clock, climb back up to its 10 o clock position, dive in attack cockpit from 9 o clock etc. etc. etc.

Stays outta defensive fire and gives you multiple passes.

On B17's i like to get above and infront, dive down and put cannon onto cockpit from 12 o clock high, only trouble is it takes a while to get back into attacking position.

if specifically out buff hunting, i'll set convergence of cannons to 600. dive in high 12 and aim for cockpit from 600. then at 400 switch to one of the drones cockpits. usually you can sink two of em in one pass, decent gunnery pending.
