Title: constant discos and vox loss
Post by: Fish323 on November 24, 2004, 01:10:44 PM
Every 1/2 hour-hour myself and several others loose vox. It seems to happen to many players at once. Is it still MY COMPUTER thats causing it? If so my apologies to all. Also, several times a night I will get disco'd when I deploy to runway or the second puff ack fires.

MSI 845MAX Motherboard
P4 2.0 Ghz
512 RAM
GForce 5500 256Mb Video card
DirectX 9.0c
XP Pro
Turbolink 500watt power supply ("designed for P4")
All current drivers.
Hard drive, Cable Modem, Network Card, Router, and all cables are 2 weeks old, all other components are an ancient 2 months. CPU runs at 101'f and chassis is 76'f (8 80mm fans)

What sound card do you use?  Even if you have the newest drivers there could be an issue.  Without temperature issues at the CPU, and assuming your RAM isnt flaky, sound card would be my first guess for a culprit.

I can't say for sure if it is just your computer, but I have NEVER lost Vox in the three years I have been here on two different machines - each upgraded once. My Guam rig has had an Asus VIA board and now an Asus Nforce1 board.  It has always used a crummy old SB Live Value with XP native drivers. My sig rig had an MSI Nforce1 board and now an Asus Nforce2 board.  I used the onboard Sounstorm on both boards.

I do know that you are not alone, as several of my squaddies lose vox.  I also rarely get discoed on either machine.  Hawaii rig is cable through a Linksys router and Sygate firewall and all useless stuff off.  Guam machine is 6000 miles from Texas on dialup through Sygate firewall and all useless stuff off.  You might want to try temporarily shutting down useless junk with the app in this thread.

I would suspect the router first.  If it has been a while since you power-cycled it, the things you describe can happen.

Consumer grade routers need a power-cycle from time to time.

But the above is just a guess.  Many, many things can cause the problems you are describing.

the router is a week old, but I'll cycle it to be sure, probably every day if it helps. As far as the other stuff, I have nothing, NOTHING but AH2 and XP pro running on computer, or loaded for that matter. I have other systems for that useless career and family crap. My sound card is a Creative SB live, but acceleration is at 3/4 per skuzzy's reccomendations.

Try not using the router for one gamming session (and directly plug in to the cable modem). See if you still have same problems.

My guess would be th Gforce card. My brother is haveing alot of discos all the time and its a brand ne comp, except for his gforce card.
We turned all of the detail down to min an d looked at the net status, it went alot smother. He is planing to buy an ATI card this weekend so we'll see.
I'll let you know how it go's.
