Title: ANY 56Kers
Post by: RSLQK186 on November 26, 2004, 01:57:21 PM
Is anyone having success with AH2 and standard dial-up?  It's the only connection available other than dish in my area. Just after I spent $200 to get my old PC to run AH1 good along comes AH2. So I save up for mons and read the BB daily. The one thing I've not seen posted is "Will not work over standard dial-up".  So before I send sys specs, trace-route, dxdalg, settings .... to Skuzzy I  figured I'd ask- am I kicking a dead horse? Hate to think I spent $1200 on a DVD player:confused:

I spend 6 nights a month in Guam and don't want to pay $60 for dsl or cable so I use 56k with ping just over 300ms.  Not so bad for dialup 6000 miles from server.  Play is fluid with just an occasional warp, vox always works, and I rarely get discoed.  I think there are lots of folks here on 56k.

Dial-up works just fine... in fact, compared to dish, it's probably better.

Thank you both vary much:)  Was praying the problem was on my end. I'll send my data to help and support and hopefully kill my warp drive.

standard dialup works fine. though you may want to tweak the modem. turn off FIFO buffers, error correction etc. if you can.

been awhile since used one, there may be other things to with modem, this is all I can think of, right off top of my head.

Howdy,

I live in the sticks in Vermont.  Best connect I can get is around 38k on a good day.  I get pings under 200 consistantly and the game plays well.  Very rarely notice any warpage.  In fact if you are having trouble with a dialup connection at 56k try setting the upper limit for that conncetion to 32k in windows.  This can actually help.  Not always, but sometimes.

Also look for a utility called MTUSpeed.
