I remembered AERO talked about some things of the Aces High's gunsight.
IIRC currently AH's gunsight is using the Alpha-Blending. This technic has a limitation if he wants to make gunsights more realistic.
He said the gunsight would look nice and realistic if HTC uses additive mixing (additive color mixture?) technic for it.
For example, WW2OL's gunsight is simulated by it.
HiTech and Pyro, what do you think about this idea?
Please try to get more realistic illumination gunsight...
Thanks.
-
Hmmm I should show sample pictures of what I want to say.
-
Can ya Mitsu? Are you talking about semi-transparent like in IL2?
-
Maybe. Is WW2OL using the same technic too?
-
Okay.. I vote!
-
Me too ... I vote for whatever Mitsu wants !!!

You blind follower !!
I vote too btw ;)
-
i vote yes.
-
Voting yes also! Nice and simple to do (I think) addition to AH.
-
Have my vote :)
I'd also like the gunsight's size relative to your head position to remain constant. As you move your head forward or away, the size changes, making it difficult to determine range like pilots did in WWII (range in terms of comparing the size of an aircraft, usually wingspan, to the diameter of the gunsight).
-
Bump.
I'm contacting to AERO today, we'll get some sample pictures...
-
I would like it if the historical gunsights were installed in AH by default.
I find Aero's gunsights more than adequate, but if they can be made more realistic, I am all for that, too!
I wish LCOS gunsights were in the game for those aircraft that had them. These were a technical advantage as important as getting engine performance correct. Even later B-17 waist guns had reflector sights with compensation for aircraft speed and altitude.
I know gamers down't really care, they prefer a single dot or no sight at all. Their preferences are already accounted for, why not hook up simmers with what they like too?

From the top...
1) Original Gunsight.
2) Background.
3) Additive synthesis (additive blend) tech (The new technique which AERO says)
4) Alpha-blending (semi-transparent?) tech (current AH gunsight)
-
Waffle has historical sights at http://www.dangreve.com
-
sullie, I'm not talking about historical gunsights.
We want to see more realistic illiminated gunsights in Aces High 2.
I'm trying to explain now.
-
AERO will offer me next sample by using Type-3 Gunsights and Ah2 Ki-84 cockpit pictures today or tomorrow.
You will know visually about the difference between a new additive-blend technique and the current AH2's alpha-blend gunsight.
-
Good stuff Mitsu! :)
For me the gun sight is a big immersion factor.
Hopefully HTC considers implementing this!
-
Here is Additive-blend (AERO's one) vs Alpha-blend (AH2's one) sample image.
It's simulated by using Aces High II Pictures.
The left gunsight illuminates well, more realistic.....doesn't it?
BTW I heard the additive-blend is supported in the DirectX 8.
HTC, please support additive-blend on our gunsights. :)
-
agreed. would make a super nice touch!
good examples too Mitsu!
.m
-
fantastic!
Additive blend please
-

The Green one looks like HUD illumination... :D
-
lpD3DDEV->SetRenderState(D3DRS_DESTBLEND, D3DBLEND_ONE);
lpD3DDEV->SetRenderState(D3DRS_SRCBLEND, D3DBLEND_SRCALPHA);
[/SIZE]
I don't know programming.
But I heard this code is for additive-blending in DX8.
Can't it be used?
-
That does look good Mitsu.
-
Looks really good! It would be a great addition to add in AH2.
-
It looks great! Just a a little blurry though, not as sharp as I 'think' note I said think they should be. Maybe it's the picture format that reduced image quality? Either way it's a definite improvement.
-
Kaz, I believe that slight blurriness is correct for a WW2 optical gunsight.
-
And could easily be tailored to each user's preference in a few steps with photoshop or paintshop.
-
Wow, got my vote, what a huge improvement. Nice one Mitsu! :aok
-
Bump this up BIGTIME - HiTech - Please consider working on this in the very near future - It's got my vote! Thanks to Mitsu for the great pics btw:aok
-
What's this additive stuff.... Will it get into the ground water?......
-
Maddog, just nod your head in agreement that we need this :)
-
First time I saw this thread was before Mitsu posted the samples. I forgot to check back on it afterwards, and now that I see them, they look better. Got my vote.

SWEET!!!
how hard is it to make one of these sights? and HiTech, is the default sight going to be replaced with any of these types in future patches?
-
I bet wives and girlfreinds around the world loath the name "HiTech" because he has the secret to getting grown men excited over bits O'eyecandy............:D
No disrespect ment HiTech......:)

Wooooooooot!!!
Will it be available in the next patch?? :)
Thanks HiTech and AERO...BANZAI! :D
-
Excellent move, dear HT! Bravo!! :D
AH2 immersion level just went up another two notches!
ps) mitsu, if Aero makes the new gunsights, could you tell him to make the sights a bit larger than he used to?
Basically, a circular type of gunsight should use the 128x128 bmp in full. I really liked the illuminated sights, but the Revi sights were much too small.
The gunsights should be about this big;

-
Mitsu.. once the sight is made... is it hard to change the color?
could a whole set be made in the yellow / light AND in the blue AND red?
ty in advance
-
HiTech...please tell me...is it working fine? ;)
-
Kweassa, JB73, please hang on.
I'm gonna tell it to AERO.

TY TY TY!!!!!
<> sir, i am no WIZ with graphics, and the sights AERO has made are awsome!!! i prefer the small illumination, instead of the normal or large halo......
if he can do that in red and blue i'd love him long time HEHEHEHHEHE
can you get me the raw files in photoshop version of the samples you made? (the multi color version below) i want to learn how to make them.
THANKS in advance

I'm sorry for late answer.
I explain how to make color in a small illumination.
step1, open 8bit gray scale image.
step2, change color mode to RGB color.
step3, To obtain the color for which you hope,
correct level to differ respectively in each RGB channel.
It is decided whether the color is beautiful by your sense.
The samples for the adjustment is displayed as follows.

Basic cross(modified for more accurate glow),
Type-3

yo AERO, your post is too late!
-
So if the coad is wrote...are we waiting on a patch?
-
Hopefully it'll be in 2.02 which is the next patch to be released sometime this month of January 2005 if everything goes according to plan.

AERO <> Sir thank you, if i understand correctly:
there will be only the 1 file, where black is transparent, and whatever color the lighter parts are is what you see "illuminated"?
is that correct?
-
I heard 2.02 is very close to release.
HT or Pyro, could you show us a new gunsight screen shot?
-
Awesome....saw Pyros post dated today that the release of 2.02 is close......
-
This is definitely a plus but as noted before, please give us the lead computing sights in the aircraft that had them...

With an option to turn them off, of course.
-
sorry for late reply again.
Alpha channel is not needed by addtive blending.
The black is transparent by addtive blend, and the background is never darkened.
Each RGB of all pixels of the image is added to RGB of the background respectively.
And it will be seen a similar shine in the reality.
There are becoming white if adding bright lighter parts to bright background,
and white interrupts your view.
It means glare of the light pollution is more realistically simulated.
-
the gunsights on the F4U and the 109 and 190 need to be ALOT BIGGER! lol
-
Nice to have: A gunsight that doesn't change size when you move the head forward...
-

What zwerg said. This eye candy is nice, but range estimation is impossible right now with the current AH sight because the size constantly changes with head position. Not to hijack this thread though:

OK Mitus !!!! ... the new gunsight is a reality ... where are the goods ?
Is AERO gonna re-make a new package ? ... and can somebody please explain how to make these new sights ?
It appears that the support for the "old" alpha sights don't quite work like they use to ... they appear very light/white now.
-
Yes.
-
Word on the street man is that all the sights will be white when against a sky backdrop. the alpha slider in your "preferences / gunsights" area of your clipboard - that slider now controls the brightness only. So the only non white color you will get will be when your sight is show against ground.
-
BlueMako as IF you need lead computed gunsights. gees what for so you can slowly carve up an opponent , like a cat playing with a mouse.
:D
-
In regards to sights I'd also like to see the aircraft with quick adjustment reticles be implemented. The D Mustang has this option. Not sure how easy it would be to implement.

If I'm gonna club baby seals, I want a really technically advanced club, you know, carbon fibre and computerised swing correction, not just a lump of wood. :D
