LOL You are such a Raiders homer!!!
-
I will also note that you didn't say I made bad choices.
*smooch*
-
LOL Let me think, I'll rip your selections and explain, in painful MiniD style detail, why mine are better than yours. :aok
-
Ok. Should I get comfy?
:p
-
You got a good list, but I'd pick Winslow over Caspar, Butkus over Singletary (admittedly a tough call,) Lem Barny over Lester Hayes, John Hannah over Larry Allen,Otto over Webster (another close call), Michael Strahan over Reggie White, Buck Buchanon over Bob Lilly, but otherwise you're showing a rudimentary understanding of the NFL.
I will teach you, I will make you understand. I will make you a fan.
-
Butkus over Singletary any day of the week.
-
OK, so most would believe that list is pretty accurate but now who is going to coach the team. I have to say Marv Levy, with his coaching and that team he would be great.

I can see Winslow very easily. Especially since I watched his game against the Dolphins where he damn near died. Or even Ozzie Newsome. I picked Hayes because he's always been one of my favorite players. And he and Haynes made such a great pair. It was a tough choice for me between Lilly and Merlin Olson. And if I did it again, I might choose Too Tall or even Jack Youngblood (anyone who can play with a broken leg is worth considering) before White. There's been so many good DE's such as Randy White, Alan Page and Howie Long it's hard to pick just two. The Otto and Butkus calls are good ones.
Teach me Obi-Won ;)

Ya don't have Don Hutson as a WR?
You guys need to do some serious homework.
Back to class, kids.
-
you guys are all STUPID..... rugby and soccer are where it's at.

I think coaches would be an even tougher call. Shula, Landry, Lombardi, Walsh, Bum Phillips (that's a joke people), or several others. Hard to pick. You might even have to break them up as coordinators.
And if I hadn't picked Jim Brown, I'd have taken Earl Campbell. With the old-style tear-away jerseys. :D

As an overall head coach I'd have to go with Lombardi.
You guys that did complete teams.
How can anyone have an alltime team without including the meanest, most ferocious and truely one of the top linebackers of all time Dick Butkus.
Actually the only one I think is his equal might by LT
Too bad NFL films seems to have taken its site down. They had a couple of real good films on him.
As Deacon Jones once put it.
"Butkus was an animal and when he hit you he tried to put you in the cemetary NOT the hospital"
He is the standard by which all linbavkers are measured against. Including LT

Soccer is ok if your under age 7 (the year you can start playing pop warner football)
Or wear a dress
Or if your mommy wont let you play football
-
Jim Brown was a great RB, but when he played the average defensive lineman was about 240 and slow. Look at old films and you'll see there was no downfield persuit back in those days.
Too bad Bo Jackson got hurt or we'd see his name popping up on all-time teams.
-
I think coaches are the easiest to pick. Thats because the only thing thats really important for a coach is winning, especially winning playoff games.
Lombardis regular season winning percentage of 73% (96-34-6) beats any of the competition, but his playoff percentage of 83% (10-2) is even better.
The closest are Belichek, whose playoff percentage is slightly better (88%) but his regular season is only 55% and Gibbs with 66% regular season (and dropping) and 76% playoff.

Football is ghey. Bowling a real man's sport.

CB Deion Sanders
DE Deacon Jones

OLB Lawrence Taylor
OLB Ted Hendricks
MLB Dick Butkus
S Ronnie Lott
S Jack Tatum
K Morten Andersen

I like all the Night Train Lane picks. Maybe the meanest player ever. Great in coverage, great against the run, great hands, great ball stripping, great runback ability, and just absolutely pulverized whoever had the ball. I have never laughed so hard watching an NFL films bio.
-
Conrad Dobler was so mean he used to bite running backs on dogpiles....and he played offense. That's mean.

You are correct, Sir! I would pick Butkus over ANY linebacker. The meanest man to ever play the position.

Agreed.
Bo knew
Never saw such a phenominal or astounding athelete before or since.
Two plays will always stick out in my mind.
one in baseball where he literally ran up the wall and caught the ball thus saving a homerun
the other in Football where against the Seahawks Brian Bosworth was in position to make a textbook perfect tackle.
And Jackson ran over him like a Mac Truck
-
also kina surprised that at TE nobody picked Mark Bavaro.
-
Ahh..Bo. If only he hadn't blown out his hip. Bo and Marcus in the same backfield. The kind of runner the Raiders needed in the snow of Buffalo. And back to the Super Bowl. Instead of so many years of teh suk.
 :o :(

All of you Bo Jackson fans. Barry Sanders had more ability than Bo did.
Now to silence the Butkus fans (I admire his talents). It was a toss up between him and Nitschke. I went with Nitschke.

1 x player who deliberately broke an opponents leg, ruining his career
1 x player who kung-fu kicked a spectator :D

I wouldn't put Randy Moss on any all time team ever. Any guy that openly admits to taking plays off when the ball isn't coming his way should not be considered for an "All Time Team" in any sport. I will give him his due since he is a phenomenal wide reciever. However there are many more with as much ability who do more with it than what he does.
Anyway here is my version of the team. Several of these offensive guys I have had an opportunity to meet on different occasions. Namely John Hannah, Anthony Munoz, Ozzie Newsome and Dwight Stevenson.
OT Anthony Munoz, Dan Dierdorf
OG Mike Munchak, John Hannah
C- Dwight Stephenson, Mike Webster
TE Ozzie Newsome, Kellen Winslow
WR Jerry Rice, Steve Largent, John Stallworth
RB Franco Harris, Eric Dickerson
QB Brett Favre, Joe Montana, Roger Stauback
DT Randy White, Art Donovan
DE Howie Long, Carl Eller
LB Lawrence Taylor, Dick Butkus, Mike Singletary
CB Rod Woodson, Deon Sanders
S Ronnie Lott, Larry Wilson
K Adam Venatari, Jan Stenerud
P Ray Guy
Coach: Toss up between Don Shula and Vince Lombardi
-
Roger Staubach? I wouldn't let that retard paint my house.
I'm surprised that nobody's said John Elway or Dan Marino.
-
Just a thought. Names to kick around.
Otto Grahm played 10 years......in those 10 years he was the starting QB in the Title game.
Also.....John Unitas...voted best QB of all time by NFL and Coaches. Another QB that refused to lose.
Recent... Bret Farve...he refuses to lose, plays like a guy running in the middle of a Jailbreak.....and is more fun to watch play QB imho at this time then anyone else. Plus....I think he'd play if he got paid by the hour.
Linebackers....a crew from the mid 60s' to early 70s' I thought were awesome were The KC Chiefs LBs. Bobby Bell, Jim Lynch and Willie Lanier......played as a group better then anything I've seen.
Guy on defense that could singlehandidly ruin an offensive scheme. Lawrence Taylor. He made offensive linemen sweat and QBs run for their lives. Was fast from sideline to sideline and could wreck a game by himself.
DBs' Mel Renfro, Dick "Night Train" Lane....Night Train name self explanatory
Safetys. Larry Wilson Jack Tatum...a combo of smarts and nuclear capability.
RB...Jim Brown......voted best player of the first 50 years of the NFL and selected the "Player of the Millineum" He averaged 5.2 yards per carry......and 100 yards a game. Many have since overtaken his former record of yards gained. He did it when the Schedule was 12....then expanded to 14 games. Last game he played in was the Pro Bowl.....by the way, he was voted most valuable player in that, his last game.
Just names I thought I'd throw out......as with many topics, this too is debatable.
Greatest Team I ever saw......hate to say this being a life long Browns Fan.....The Pittsburgh Steelers from the mid to late 70s'
Think the whole dam team is in the Hall of Fame....or soon will be.
OH! And best Kicker? Lou Groza.....why you think they named the award the Groza Award?
Coach? Paul Brown....innovator, first to use a playbook, first to use Film as a tool to prepare for upcoming opponent. Browns HAD to travel in a suit and tie....look professional. Many more innovations.
Rule #1 by Paul Brown..."when you score a touchdown, act like you've been there before."

I've been a Viking fan now for close to 35 years (long story and no I've never been to minnesota let alone lived there)
That being said I woudnt include Moss on any all time team either.
There are several I would pick.
Paul Krause, Jim Marshal, Alan Page.
But I wouldnt pick Moss...Not yet Mainly because of his attitude. And while he has been showing signs of maturaty.
Untill he shows it on a consistant basis he doesnt deserve to be on any "greatest players ever" list

He was a great coach in my view simply for this reason right here. One thing that truly pisses me off about college football teams is the other point you made here. So many of them these days travel in warm up suits that its ridiculous. There is only one team here in Alabama that I know of that travels in coat and tie and that is the University of Alabama and the previous coaches after Gene Stallings didn't require that at all. The newest one Mike Shula brought it back to showing some class when you come to town and how you leave town after the game.

Sounds like the good ol NFC East. Except for the Kung Fu thingy.
#1 most satisfying NFL moment: Lawrence Taylor breaking Joe Theisman's leg...over and over in slo-mo. Sweeeeeet.

Phil Kennedy, all-time greatest football talent EVAH!, until he blew out his knee.

Far from it.
I believe it was in 1996, Lions vs. Chiefs (Thanksgiving Day Game). Terry Fair returned the kickoff to the 30. First play from scrimmage, Barry ripped a 70 yard TD run, BUT, it was called back on a hold. Next play from scrimmage, he ripped an 80 yard TD run. AND, Barry
I'm sorry but there is a LONG LINE ahead of Bo Jackson. Aside from Jim and Barry.
Dickerson, Payton, Allen, Smith, and several others.

Story about Barry Sanders.
I believe was Tom Landry that told the Dallas Cowboys before a Thanksgiving Day Game. If Sanders goes by you Defense....and you miss the tackle, hold your ground, he'll be back eventually.

It appears that we get 25 players, 11 O, 11 D, and 3 special. Therefore I pick the following.
Jim Brown RB-KR Also an awesome blocker, he can also punt and kick off.
Walter Payton RB-KR-Receiver also awesome blocking back, and backup QB.
Jerry Rice WR One just can't leave the all time all timer off any list.
Don Hutson WR Maybe one of the top 5 players of all time period.
Joe Montana QB Just barely beats out Johnny U as the best overall QB ever. Possably also in the top five all time players.
Mike Webster C With all due respect for Donaldson.
John Hannah OG
Gene Upshaw OG My choice for guards I would not argue any of three other picks however.
Big Jim Parker OT
Anthony Munoz OT These two guys are the consensus expert all time greats couple of others would get no argument from me.
Lou Groza OT Oh and he place kicks as a sideline. :D
Kellen Winslow TE If one never saw him play one has missed a rare treat.
Randy Cross C-OG-OT got to have a backup and this man will not give much of a drop off at any position.
Bob Lilly DT
Joe Greene DT
Gino Marchetti DE
Deacon Jones DE These 4 or any of about 6 others.
Ray Nitschke ILB
Dick Butkus ILB
Lawrence Taylor OLB This group give me the latitude to play either a 3 or 4 man front with Tunnell
Dick "Night Train" Lane CB-KR.
Ronnie Lott CB-Safety These two are a must, Nuff said
Paul Krause Safety Only the all time interception leader.
Emlen Tunnell CB-LB-Safety-KR-PR Emlen the Gremlin, he was labeled "offense on defense," a moniker he justified with 4,706 combined career yards on interception runbacks, punt returns, and kickoff returns. Oh and he is second in interceptions only to Krause.
Jim Thorpe K-P-RB-KR-PR-QB-Receiver-DB To leave this man off would be an injustice.
Lombardi
