Anyone in the Orlando area see this on I-4?
-
It should say "The Great Leader"
-
Pongo, we need that same kinda thing up here.
Just think of it. You, out on the island... me in the prairies.... driving to work one morning when lo and behold, a kind of collective unconsciousness cloud of amnesia wafts through the vents and BLAMMO!
... we can't remember who our leader is.
As luck would have it... the very next moment we would look up and see, towering above us, a beacon. A lighthouse. On a rock. It would announce without any ambivalence whatsoever, "Paul Martin. Our leader."
Damn...
They onto something....
-
what puzzles me is the Blue Kerry coloration, methinks thats subliminal :)
-
It's just in case you have the attention span of a goldfish.
-
maybe "Glorios Leader!"
-
Is that some kind of joke ?

Color Psychology?
The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can also be cold and depressing. Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.
The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear heavier. Since it is an extreme color, red clothing might not help people in negotiations or confrontations. Red cars are popular targets for thieves. In decorating, red is usually used as an accent. Decorators say that red furniture should be perfect since it will attract attention.
In the U.S. flag, white stands for purity and innocence. Red represents valor and hardiness, while blue signifies justice, perseverance, and vigilance. The stars represent the heavens and all the good that people strive for (1 for each state), while the stripes emulate the sun's rays.

Living Colour: Cult Of Personality
Look into my eyes, what do you see?
Cult of Personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the Cult of Personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Neon lights, A Nobel Price
The mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You don't have to follow me
Only you can set me free
I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your T.V.
I'm the Cult of Personality
I exploit you still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the Cult of Personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Neon lights a Nobel Prize
A leader speaks, that leader dies
You don't have to follow me
Only you can set you free
You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You me power in your God's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm the Cult of Personality

I just can't wait to see the bronze statute that is certainly soon to be erected in DC. I hope to be able to visit it everyday and view it in quiet awe of our benevolent dict... leader.

Funny because there is currently a big effort being made by the ruling party here to take this wee island of ours Independent.
Under the former government, as an example, there was always a huge portrait of HRH Elizabeth II in the arrivals lounge at the airport.
As soon as the current government came into power they replaced that with a huge portrait of the Premier.
About two months ago all of the Financial Services companies were asked to check with our clients to see how they felt about Independence. I happened to be having lunch with a client a few days later and asked him about the issue.
His response was that he would move all his companies immediately. His reason - the big portrait of the Premier at the airport. He said that it showed that the current government was all about self-glorification and reminded him of despotic governments he had dealt with in the past.
This billboard reminded me of that story.

Makes me think of the movie "1984"

Nice billboard. Paranoia perhaps in the extreme to see it for anything but what it is.
-
Nice of nazi boy to prove my point.
-
They had a similar "demonstration" in San Rafael- right after the election a guy painted an upside-down flag on the side of his building, in full view of commute traffic. They also have protest billboards up and down Hwy 101- demanding everything from getting the USA out of the UN to asking the CHP to stop busting dope smugglers.
All of this is protected free speech- if a private citizen displays his support for President Bush by paying for billboard space then he has the right, just like the guy with the upside down flag on his building. Unless this billboard was paid for with tax money I see nothing wrong with it.

People taking pride and sharing hope in their newly reelected leader is what I see. In actuality it's nothing more than a picture of our president and a simple statement of irrefutable fact.

If some choose to see this as a slap in the face so much the better.

But why? if its an irrefutable fact... why do it?
It cost money to do this and were there is money spent, there is an intention for an end goal. I don't know what that end goal was, but I doubt it was intended to educate anyone that might have been accidently locked up in a bank vault for the last month or so.
It looks to me more like it's an overtly assertive statement of an irrefutable fact..... and it looks wierd.
Lol not saying it's a big conspiracy... it's just looks strange that it was done at all.

What's wrong with taking pride your country's leadership? What's wrong with trying to instill confidence in your fellow citizens? Happy and confident people are more productive and probably healthier I believe. What's wrong with that?

Wow... I disagree with this 100%. To do that would be nothing but non-contructive and create even more diversity.

OK.... I can see that.
I think that the message should have been something a little more confidence inspiring than just "Our leader".
I tried to think of something better but went blank.

Well, that appeals to my antagonistic side.
Like many, if not most, I am sometimes guilty of seeing people in groups based on their outward appearance. In this case, it is lumping folks together as sniveling, whiny liberals. The slap is only a matter of perception and if there is even a remote possibility it'll knock some sense into them then I'm all for it. I certainly don't intend to make any effort at reconciliation.
-
I thought you were saying that the slap might be part of the intended message of the board....
I need to lighten up a little this morning I guess..... ;)

Currently, they are strategizing on how they can win back the White House....it's comical. Gee...it couldn't be that their out of touch with the country could it? LOL!
Well...it's fun to watch on TV and here on this board as well.

Sure it's what I meant. I know message edits are time stamped. Wasn't trying to trick you.
I never considered it a whine to tell someone to stop whining. Unless you go on and on about it when they don't stop rather than simply ignoring them.

Watching people's reactions to these billboards will be a great way to differentiate the true patriots from the terrorist sympathizers in our midst.

Create terrorists? Nah, we're just choosing their targets for 'em and we prefer those to be our well armed troops rather than our civilians.

Not sure I understand your point, Rude. Are you suggesting that when Clinton was President, conservatives spent no time planning how to win back the White House?
I'm pretty sure its the nature of political parties who are 'out' of power to stratigize how to get 'in' power...

Very true....however, the reps with clinton stayed on message and focused on how best to improve the communication of it to the American public....the dems simply have no message or their message is unpallitable to most Americans.
It is this effort to "come up" with a belief for their party which will land them in the White House, that I find amusing.

I don't imagine the Dems will have to move towards the Right to attract votes; if they stay where they are voters will move back to the Left, once the voters get tired of seeing the flag draped coffins of our soldiers coming home.

There have been several sarcastic comments made here. Sarcasm usually comes from offense. To perceive offense where none was intended and respond with sarcasm is a whine imo. Since so much of this is subjective I acknowledge that not all will agree.

I wouldnt say many.. but certainly takes all kinds to make a world.. Personnally, I want all the killing to stop, not just our side. Whats the use in hoping for many US deaths? It is happening anyway.
I would think most patriots would be more concered about the hidden from America's eyes coffins returning almost daily. Does not seem to be the case on this board though.. You know, more worried about the fact of the matter rather than the matter of the fact..

Why are the stakes higher now than anytime before? Many died in Vietnam?
More of you attempted diversity.. I think 'war' is bad for our entire country.. right and left. good guys and bad guys..
In 1899 the US invaded the Phillipines because we wanted a foot hold in Pacific Asia.. 40,000 civilians were slaughtered by the same America military men that slaughtered the American Indian. Was that a bad thing for the left or right?

The vietcong had no interest in killing Americans on American soil....Bin Laden said 4 million Americans must die, two million of those to be children...he has made vividly clear that they will attack us again and again.
You good with another 9/11 or worse?
War is never preferred nor is it to be taken lightly....our young dying is difficult and not easily tolerated by me....still, your prefferred method of diplomacy and inaction has brought us 9/11 and countless other attacks on American citizens, interests and capital.
What we now undertake in the Middle East is no different than what we undertook in the pacific against Japan....many similarities, from the suprise attack to them trying to force US influence out of the pacific so as to allow them to mandate their doctrine against innocents throughout the area.
One thing for certain....I want our boys home, sure....I want a future for my kids even moreso....it's time stand up as a nation against this threat, even if it means doing so without our so called friends in Europe.
Enough said...time to make money.

First thing that came to my mind was the ein volk, ein fuhrer, etc. connection too. I doubt the person in charge of producing this poster got good grades in history.
Nothing wrong with the poster, really, and I don't find it offensive, but still, the connection can easily be made.

Iraqi is a world away from Japan and ww2.. Have we forgotten who attacked us on 9/11?
Mandate their doctrine against innocents? 1899 Invasion of the Phillipines by America. I guess we were bringing democracy and not mandating doctrine? Iran-contras, again bringing democracy rebel style to overthrow an elected government instead of mandating doctrine? Iran in the 1950s was it? An elected government overthrown? Clearly bringing democracy once again.. Lets not forget Guatemala. America invaded in the early 1950s and overthrew the freely elected president for the American produce company United Fruit. I could go on..
Be clear Rude.. It is NOT.. let me repeat.. It is NOT America's inaction that brought us 9/11....
You want a future for your kids? Better take a closer look to what it is America is spreading around the world..

Shifting signs in North Korea
Kim Jong Il dials back personality cult as protest activities pick up.
By Jasper Becker | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
BEIJING – Years can drift by between press conferences in Pyongyang. But recently the tiny resident press corps, namely the ITAR-Tass correspondent Stanislav Varivoda and two Chinese journalists, were summoned to hear Mr. Varivoda's story refuted.
He reported last month that portraits of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il had disappeared from key public buildings. Further, the media had stopped using the honorific "Dear Leader" in official bulletins.
"There's not normally much to do here but this has caused a storm," Varivoda said in a phone interview from Pyongyang. "At the press conference they said nothing I reported is true."
Small signs often portend big changes in closed societies, especially in the secretive court of North Korea's Kim dynasty. Observers are wondering if this is just another mad whim from the palace - like the edicts forbidding women to wear red trousers or to eat hamburgers. Or if, after 3 million deaths from starvation on his watch, Kim Jong Il's star many finally be falling - something suggested by numerous North Korean refugees in recent interviews.
Resident diplomats see nothing unusual in the country but confirm the portraits are gone in a few places. The 62-year-old Kim continues to be addressed with more than a thousand honorifics such as "The Lodestar of the 21st Century" and "Guardian of Our Planet."
Varivodo thinks that Kim Jong Il realizes that foreigners find the personality cult absurd and so has had the portraits taken down at places where foreign delegations are received.
"They want to avoid the negative reactions and stupid questions about the personality cult," he says. "They know foreigners find it odd, but really there has been no other change to the personality cult here."
No one is sure what Kim is up to. The Sunday Times of London says Kim has gone into seclusion, depressed by the reelection of President Bush and the death of his favorite mistress.
Top Kiminologists like Japan's Kosuke Takahashi say he is downplaying his personality in order to court younger South Koreans. Ruediger Frank, professor of East Asian Political Economy at the University of Vienna, sees this as a preparation for succession and an eventual collective leadership.
A third expert, veteran journalist Bradley K. Martin who has just published "Under the Loving Case of the Father: North Korea under the Kim Dynasty," portrays it as a response to domestic pressures. Ordinary people are starting to object to the cult as they learn more about the outside world, he contends.

Bin Laden is Afghanistan or Pakistan, right, not Iraq? Additionally the 9/11 Commission's findings found no significant connection between Iraq and 9/11, correct?
$200 billion and counting, Bin Laden is still free. 150,000 troops in Iraq, how many in Afghanistan? Maybe 10,000?

Maybe Rude is just one of the majority of Americans who reelected GWB President, too. Maybe he believes we can spread a better way of life, through democracy, abroad- he may be right, or he may be wrong- but he voted with the majority because GWB's vision of what America should stand for was better than what Kerry's vision of what America should stand for.
I hope he's right, actually.

A new poster had suddenly appeared all over London. It had no caption, and represented simply the monstrous figure of a Eurasian soldier, three or four metres high, striding forward with expressionless Mongolian face and enormous boots, a submachine gun pointed from his hip. From whatever angle you looked at the poster, the muzzle of the gun, magnified by the foreshortening, seemed to be pointed straight at you. The thing had been plastered on every blank space on every wall, even outnumbering the portraits of Big Brother. The proles, normally apathetic about the war, were being lashed into one of their periodical frenzies of patriotism.
