Not just because Auburn didn't get a shot at the title...however someone will have them ranked #1 should they beat Virginia Tech in the Sugar bowl. It sucks because a weak bellybutton Texas team got into the Rose Bowl because Mack Brown whined enough and politicized the whole package and case for Texas to get into the BCS when it wasn't deserved. California deserved a shot at the Rose and they got SCREWED!!!!!!!
-
They should just shorten BCS to BS.
-
Yup I feel your pain. As a Nebraska fan we've been on the recieving end of the just and unjust alike.
I think it's dumb have a small play off.
-
I'm sorry. But to require these students to have a true playoff and decide the champion on the field would be far too damaging to their academic future. We must remember that they are student-atheletes. And the history of the bowls are too precious to just throw away just to appease some fans by letting them know if Texas or Auburn or some other school is really the best. As if a one and done-type of playoff can really determine who is the best. It's far better to let sports writer and computers make these decisions.
I'm kidding btw.

Who would rank them #1, especially after USC beats the crap out of Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl? Auburn might be a decent team but they are in no way as good as USC. Nor is Oklahoma for that matter.

HA!
Just HA!, how can you expect to beat aurburn, if you struggle against UCLA, let standford roll over you in the first half, and have a close game against OSU? You are seriously kidding yourself there. OU going to spank you in the orange bowl. Im going to watch White, and Peterson eat you guys, and watch bushwhack and linart get eaten.

Yes, careers in basketweaving are far too precious to throw away for a hand injury in football.

If USC plays like they did in their conference championship and OU plays like they did in their conference championship. Bye bye USC. If we played like we did last year.. beh.. oh well I'm used to feeling shafted.
-
My bet is on OU beating USC like the pretenders they are....seriously it will be a good game and would have been a good game no matter who ended up in the "championship" game. As for who will have Auburn ranked #1...I am sure that they will be able to claim some no name championship like some of the ones that many universities claim.
My prediction is Auburn beat Virginia Tech in a good game that gets wild at the end one 35-17 and USC looses by 10 to OU 34-24. Oh and as a sidebar my team UAB gets their doors blown off 55-20 by Hawaii and we end up firing the head coach and AD the day after christmas.
-
Why not just have a mini playoff of the top four ranked BCS teams?
Have 1 play 4 and 2 play 3 during the regular bowl time then add another week and another bowl game to have the winners of the above games play for the undisputed national championship. That way tyhe top 4 teams get a fair shot at a national championship and only 1 week is added to the post season....
I really want USC to win because of that BS last year but I have my concerns...

I don't disagree, Texas has no business being in the Rose Bowl.

Bah, there will never be a system that establishes conclusively the "best" college team. Part of college football is to argue controversy and insult, and insist that your team from god-knows-when was the best.
The BCS system as such is BS; much better to do away with it and go back to old-fashioned bowl games that mean even less.
A championship? That's just the road to reduced revenue and more controversy.
Besides, these bowl games in sunny parts of the country unfairly favor the wussy aerial attack and west-coast BS of SEC teams. Promise me the NCAA national championship will be decided new years day on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, and you've got a deal.
-
Texas belongs in the Rose bowl, and they will win the Rose bowl.... the only reason Cal was ranked ahead of Texas is because the only team they lost to was #1 USC, and TX lost to #2 OU... but we will see in the Orange bowl that OU ( and I hate to say this ) is the best team in the nation right now.
Don't get me wrong tho, I think the BCS is screwed! I think the top 8 teams should be in the BCS bowls no matter what.

There is no PAC-10 conference championship game. USC usually plays UCLA last during the regular schedule.
Auburn had to fight uphill, USC and OU were #1 and #2 starting this year, based partially on their performance from last year, when USC beat Auburn at home.

Alright i can understnad, but you are quite blinded. Cal had overall better stats at that USC game and by all means should have won. Arrington and Rodgers are forced to behold. CAl i think is a better than Texas.

Well as a coach once told me "If if's and but's were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry christmas"....what that means is the BCS in some form or fashion is here to stay thanks to the old commisioner of the SEC (Roy Kramer) who wasn't a bad man for wanting his conference to be the best in the land and to benefit from all the money that can be brought its way.
However to think that Cal has to sit out just because a team; TEXAS; that barely squeaked by Arkansas (Which that ended the season at 5-6, 3-5 in conference play.) had a coach that whined to all the sports writers for a week is ridiculous. I mean come on...show me some reasoning besides Mack Brown whines and I will be able to at least respect it. Yes I know Mack and his brother Watson (the coach here at UAB); I don't know him well but I know a whiner when I see it.
Granted this season wasn't the best for the SEC but they were far and away a better overall conference than the Big-12 or the Pac-10.
No system is ever going to be perfect but I say lets have a committee that doesn't give out rankings until all the teams have played at least 6 games. In order to be on the committee you will have to be a former college player and or coach as well as some "Joe Smith" everyday guys or girls. This would eliminate the fraternity atmosphere of the coaches poll and the biased sports writers side as well.
That way everyone will have an opportunity to stumble and turn themselves around with the possibility of getting back in the race over the last 6 games of the season which are traditionally the meat of everyone's schedules. OH and this would mean that the sports writers (AP poll) and AFCA (coaches ESPN) poll are thrown out the door on their ASSES!

Hey, Reschke,
If we're going to talk about squeeking by, we can't forget the low-ranked Alabama team bringing their 3rd string to the Iron Bowl...:D
Just had to give you a hard time... Long time, no talk.

I think Cal is a better team than USC, but I think TX and OU are better than Cal....
All three of those teams had close calls....... USC got out played by Cal, OK got out played by A&M, Cal got BEAT DOWN by Southern Miss?!?! and TX got lucky against Kansas.
and as far as Mack Brown crying about the BCS... look no further than Pete Carrol..... his cryin and moaning got us the system that we have this season. If strength of schedule was still in the mix, Cal and USC wouldn't be in the top 5. and think about...... would you vote for Texas after seeing Mack Brown beg? me either, I think that actually lost votes.

Yeah and since OU shut out UT there is no question. Sorry had to rub it in. I was down for the game... I rolled by the HiTech offices real slow with my OU flag, although no one was there it was a silent victory. :p

and on the note of Pete "Cry til they split the National Championship" Carrol , USC shouldn't have been Co National Champs last year. CAL beat em. Cal at the time if I remember were UNRANKED.
Pete cried and and got co-ownership of a national championship from LSU.
Cal isnt all that good. Did Mac whine? Sure a bit. Did any of the other coaches? HE!! yes they did cause they all want a part of it. Texas isn't the bad guy here. The SYSTEM IS. Cal should have played better. Wait til you have a So So game in the National Champ. with O.U winning by say 3 or 6.Then Auburn just KILLS who they play and finishes undefeated. WHY wont they have a GRIPE.
Get off Texas' back.
BCS sucks..has sucked and WILL suck:(

Ahh but strength of schedule and the score component are truly back in the formula of the BCS. The coaches and sports writers honestly can not claim that they study each game enough to put a true vote in for each team.
I know a guy who is a voter on the AP poll and a voter for the Heisman. In his defense he is a all around nice guy but he can't watch every game or attend every game that is happening on Saturday because he may be at a local game writing a story on it. So by his admission he says that when he votes he primarily looks at score first then the stats if it was a particularly close ball game score wise.
-
Bah, at least y'all will get to watch your teams if you want. My team's game will most likely be omitted in favor of reruns of Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch.
I'll still root for Texas, though...

The only team that has the ability to beat USC isn't the team that is playing in any of the top BCS bowls. Unfortunately, that team is playing #23 Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl. But you're young so I'll over look your ignorance this time.

I knew there was a reason I liked you Gunslinger ;) I was born in Lincoln, 2.8 miles from the stadium. I have red N's in my blood :D
With that said I am in favor of a playoff system for division 1 college football. All other divisions of college football have a playoff and so do all other college sports. It's time to get a real playoff system setup for division 1 football imo

Long live Texas!!!! Long Live the Sooners!!!
Long Live the Big 8....errr...Big 12!!!!
Bunch of whiners!!!

What about this season makes you think Cal could beat OU? Their mighty win vs. AirForce?? Their squeaker 28-27 win vs. Oregon (who Oklahoma beat 31-7 btw)? Who (besides USC) did they play this season that is worth a hoot?
Cal might be a good team, but in Oklahoma's league? Errrrr..... no.
-
I've thought for years that there needs to be a playoff system in college football.
Ideally, Cal should be playing Texas in the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl committee needs to be set straight....all this tradition crap, yet they want their game to be part of the upper tier of the BCS?
The Orange, Rose, and Sugar Bowl games are BIG money for the schools. If the committees don't want to get with the program and host the upper ranked teams, cause of their "tradition", they should be excluded completely from being a BCS game.
Cal has a legitimate gripe, but so would Texas if they had been excluded from playing in the same game.
Michigan should be playing Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl, #17 vs #23, and Cal vs Texas, #3 vs #4, in the Rose Bowl.
I am looking forward to seeing USC vs OU in the Orange Bowl. Not normally a Sooner fan, but I am rooting for them this year.
They fell apart last season, losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game and then getting humbled by LSU in the game for the national title.
I say Mack Brown needs to be shot for letting Adrian Peterson get away. Peterson said he wanted to play for a team that had a shot at a national title, yet he doesn't or didn't realize that he alone would be the difference between Texas playing for a title or OU playing for one. I am far more impressed with Peterson than Cedric Benson.
