That is really sad.  Can't find anything funny about losing an expensive piece of art like that.

Sorta reminded me of what happened at the airshow not so many years ago - over banked and couldnt roll out.

Good thing it didn't hit a crowd, that could have been ugly. I remember a football game years ago, I believe it was at shea stadium, the Patriots were playing the Jets. During halftime they had a guy flying a RC airplane in the stadium. Well, the guy let a cheerleader fly it, she flew it right into the crowd and killed someone, and that was just a wooden prop plane.

It looked like the radio cut out after he brought her back and passed overhead.

Wow!..I remember almost decaptating a guy in a 17 ft'r with my outta control R/C Lake Buccaneer...He ducked and the flyingboat  took out his plexi windscreen and then crashed...Pretty cool he made me pay for repairs only.

Some R/C planes fly over 100mph and one of those things outta control flies into a crowd .. could prolly take out more than 1 person.

Title: Too windy to fly that day!
Post by: Hogboy on December 08, 2004, 07:06:50 AM
The damn thing had 8 jets but did you see that crosswind?  If I had a toy that expensive there's NO WAY I'd fly it under less than ideal conditions.

Those RC jet jobs aren't cheap.  I saw a single engine jet fighter at an RC show (it didn't crash) and it cost it's owner about $10,000.  Hell, each minature jet engine he had to buy for it was $2,000.00!  That B-52 had 8 of them!

I feel sorry for the BUFF owner, but that video was great, wasn't it?  All that was missing was a bottle rocket shooting up to it right before it augured!

Sad.  Did it seem like it was flying into a strong headwind when it took off?

Must have beena real bummer for the owner... picking up the pieces and taking that long drive home .

there's a site showing the construction of the plane, and the test flights.

he made it in an unreal time, like a week or something (maybe 1 month), all from scratch.

he plans on building another one

I'm surprised that a rc plane that big is legal.

Marginal weather is a probable major factor in several of the rc crash films I've seen.  When gray clouds are moving around, doesn't seem like good time to launch model aircraft.

Maybe they should deploy this Tu-95 for SAR operations?
