Then learn the customs; heres one from the land of unbeliveable.
This past Saturday one of my good friend's grandfather's funeral was held. During the Police escorted procession to the cemetary, a person of Asian persuasion(can be any asian country), went through the green light he saw and plowed into the funeral procession.(luckily no serious injuries). When we got out this person who plowed into us is screaming and yelling that the procession ran the light. (even though the cops were there with lights on) When the police confornted the driver about hitting a funeral procession, his reply was "What's a funeral and what does that matter to me they ran the light". No matter what the cops told him, he didn't care, until they ticketed him.
I don't know about you but even if I'm vacationing somewhere, I try to understand the local customs, so not to offend. Why can't the same happen in this country.
-
A guy I knew from work had this lady from South America run him off the road.
The cops came and she explained that she had her turn signal on and that the guy did not let her in the lane, so she just went in anyway and ran him off the road. She insisted that she was in the right because she had her turn signal on.

Sounds fine to me?

there are probably still isrealis telling stories about my driving from when I was there. Nothing like a guy with an uzi screaming at you for cutting him off in a trafic circle.
-
I dont understand people who get roadrage. I rarely get mad while driving. Some of my friends cuss like crazy if a driver crosses within 50 feet in front of them. Must be mental illness.

Now if only the majority of the Americans would do the same thing when they visit other countries!

It's a Finland thing too. Rural towns especially on the west coast compete who has the grandest roundabout, the towns people are very proud of their roundabouts.

Actually Americans are IMO quite well behaving visitors. Maybe the fact that they "know" that everyone hates them makes them behave better, unlike Britons.

I thougth Brits like to holiday in Finland, to see the lovely lakes, the wonderful telephone system, and the many interesting furry animals, including the majestic moose.
Is this not the case?

Actually I didn't really mean Finland, but other coutries I've been to during my travels.
Nothing much to see here IMO.

Massachusetts has plenty of rotories as well. It's always fun to watch someone with out of state plates try to negotiate through them, especially around Boston.

Washinton, D.C. is full of "roundabouts". The city was designed by a Frenchman 200 years ago.

Well to be fair the Americans are culturaly insensitive, (only my opinion ) but I concede many Brits abroad behave terribly too. usualy the type of Brit we seem to be lableing "the chav" (translation, crap tracksuit they paid a fortune for or nicked from the shop, skull fitting cheap baseball cap with flat un curled peak, studmuffin in mouth, favourite car some naff hot hatch with fat exhausts and a crap bodykit, No education and a predeliction for RnB or Rap. On hoilday they wear England football shirts whilst being too bloated on beer to ever play good football.
To find the Chav on holiday just head towards the Med on a cheap bargain flight.
I keep well away from the area having no desire to be associated with such people.
In times gone buy these poor taste, badly dressed, aggressive stupid buggers were very usefull for fighting our many wars and 'kicking johnny foreigners ar*se' Nowadays we have no wars to cull their population and it seems our green and pleasent land is being overun by them.

When in Europe, I use the Eurorail and taxi's only. Works fine for me.

Dont you know? this is American where now it is common thought to adjust our ways to accomodate those from other countries instead of expecting those to adapt and learn ours.
Example. We are exepriancing a large influx of people from spanish speaking countries from Mexico and South America.
Are we expecting them to learn english? Noooo
But what we do have is several townships Edison for example who now have it mandatory in their curriculum that starting in the first grade everyone has to learn how to speak spanish. Meaning Kids cant even move up to the next grade if they dont pass the spanish class each year.
Even in my Daughters school they teach spanish (shes 8) for something like 1/2 hour a day.
Fortunately in her school it isnt mandatory to pass to move on to the next grade...yet
I am wondering now how long before they also start teaching Hindu

Wow... I'd love to be a fly on the wall, in the principle office, when a parent comes in to scream at the guy for failing his kid for that!

I just got back from a cruise where I took a taxi tour while on St Thomas Island. There were few general traffic controls, few light controlled intersections (can't really remember one), lots of traffic and low capacity roads. An intersection would sometimes have four streams of traffic meeting at one point with the drivers doing various actions (straight, right turn, left turn, etc.).
However, the drivers were patient and cooperative. In spite of the traffic, and the apparent chaos, people worked with each other, let others pass in front even if it delayed their progress 10 -20 seconds, and when all was said and done it moved very well. What would have been gridlocked choke points full of selfish, impatient fuming drivers here was a minor inconvienience there.

That's because people in the US are retards when it comes to operating a motor vehicle.
Traveling at 10mph does not require you to sit there like a tard and follow the car in front of you by two freight truck lengths.
Drivers also sit there and read the newspaper, or turn around to talk to someone, or do other stupid crap.
Maybe it's just the DC area, but incompetence and motor vehicles seems to go hand in hand here.

Yes!
Damn foreginers! Heres a fine example of a PURE American woman!
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) -- A woman ran over two teenage brothers after they accidentally hit her sport utility vehicle with a golf ball they were bouncing in a parking lot, officials said. One of the boys suffered life-threatening injuries.
The 14- and 16-year-old boys were bouncing the golf ball in a shopping center parking lot Sunday afternoon when it went astray and struck the SUV driven by 47-year-old Kathy Feaganes Allen, sheriff's Deputy Greg Suchy said.
No damage was done, and the boys apologized and began to walk away, Suchy said. Allen started to drive away, but suddenly made a U-turn, ran over a median and struck the teens before knocking over a light pole, Suchy said.
She then allegedly went after a third brother, but did not hit him. A witness said that after the SUV came to rest, Allen got out of the car and smoked a cigarette with the boys lying on the ground in pain.
God Bless Americans!

accidently bounced a goldball in a parking area....???
bullshiat. those punks didn't deserve to get run over but they were punks for thrwoing a golfball around in a parking area all the same. I would be PISSED if a saw some kids doing that near my car.

Customs ?
It isn't really rocket science only common sense to figure a policeman trumps traffic lights anywhere in the world.
Speaking of culturally insensitive, my favorite story is about young brits visiting mallorca to burn 600 pounds during a week, drinking and behaving like barn-yard animals while wearing t-shirts saying "You hate us" with the flipside "... and we don't care"
And closer to home, I heard the swedish consulate in Athens has the unique distinction of being water 'hoosable' (to care for liquored (and possibly puking) teens getting in trouble and seeking it out.

And you bet I do look down on idiots who go abroad and smash the places they visit to bits, make no effort to understand or learn about the places they visit and are only interested in their own small minded **** like little version of the world!
Football hooligans, BNP rascists, pissed yobs in the med I look down on em all. I don't want anything to do with them or their version of our national identity. They can go and puke their bloated bellies, kick each others heads in, and abuse each other somewhere else as far as i'm concerned.

Asians should not be allowed to drive!
After all you can blindfold them with dental flose

^^ HOLY **** THAT'S FUNNY! Too bad he won't be around for long...
I don't get angry, I'm perfectly focused on the road. I've never been in an accident, but I've avoided many.
I was once driving with my dad when someone tried to pull out right ontop of me. He froze, but I gave the person about 6 extra feet to my right and missed him. My dad started cursing me out for not slamming the breaks and hitting the horn.
I simply said, "If I had started to hit the horn and breaks, I would not have had control and would have hit them. So would you rather I leaned on the horn and breaks and ripped the right side off their car? Or miss them completely without even a scratch?"

I find that statment..
offencive. LOL
But seriously
I only get offended when we are expected to alter our ways and traditions to suit people that come HERE.
Now I don't speak a word of Russian, And I don't speak a word of Spanish even though I am of Spanish decent.
If I were to move to Russia, or Spain I sure as hell wouldn't expect them to have to learn English to suit me.
My grandfather immigrated here in 1916 and learned the language. Actually by the time he died he spoke better English then anyone I've ever known since. Absolutely impeccable. He reminds me of the guy who used to do the "Smith Barney" commercials "they get money the old fashioned way, they Earn it" He sounded almost exactly like that.
No he didn't speak Spanish to his kids and refused to teach it to them. he said and I quote
"I didn't want the family to be just another group of spics"
bottom line is back then they came her they learned the language and assimilated themselves to AMERICAN customs and traditions.
Now Americans are supposed to learn their language and adjust to suit the immigrants. And not only are we supposed to. but the immigrants expect us to, and raise hell if we dont.
THAT I find offensive to me

tinpot... you sure are the most angry "LOL" guy I ever seen.
I think your superior attitude and lack of any understanding whatsoever about Americans is kinda funny really... in a stereotypical way. I find it kinda cute that you even bother to explain yourself.
What I think would be cool is if we had a soccer game here and you imported all your "hooligans". We never get any really good riots here. problem with riots tho is that they stay in the big cities where they are safe and won't get shot at.

I'm going to get shot driving to work someday.
People are always getting pissed at me for using the carpool lane, they tailgate, flash their lights, give me the finger. It's great. I just point and laugh at them. That's going to get me shot some day.
