Got a bit bored with Bostons so I've revisited the Corsair. This is an F4U-4 of VBF-94 operating from USS Lexington in August 1945 (borderline for WW2 I know, but the aircraft in the photo looks well used). This aircraft has the late war markings with a letter rather than a geometric shape designation for the carrier group ID. I've guessed that the "H" is carried over to the top and bottom of the non-insignia wing panel. Other similar Corsairs show this.
Its very hard to find pictures of WW2 era F4U-4s, plenty of Korean War or after the war training shots though. Anyone have any good shots of skinnable WW2 examples?
