In keeping with the other music threads going on, what do you think is the most over played song so where you are totaly sick of hearing it and can't even view it as a song anymore.
#1 on my list would have to be Stairway to Heaven.
EVERY SINGLE garage band in my youth played this damn song. I find it impossible to listen to more than 30 seconds of it now.
#2 would have to be "Angie" by the Rolling Stones. It was great for the first 100 times I heard it on the radio. By the 1 billionth time, it got old.
-
Anything by Led Zeppelin. Most over-rated band ever.
Freebird.
Hotel California.
Anything by 'DC.
Comfortably numb.
Imagine, Let it Be, and Across the Uiverse.
-
The Beatles
-
Gina by Bobby Goldsborou
-
Lets Get It Started- Black Eyed Peas
You would think whatever it is they wanted started would be goin and gone by now?!?!
-
Any of the 5 dance songs they play over and over and over on MTV...that is, between the gazillion reality shows.
-
Sweet Home Alabama
Loved the song before the last 10 years of drunken rednecks shouting for it at every gig.
-
Suffragette City - David Bowie
The next two pain me as they are from my Favorite band.
Money - Pink Floyd
Another Brick in The Wall Part 2 - Pink Floyd these two are just simply Beat to watermelon on the radio.
Karaya
-
Bring me to life - Evanescence
-
I Get Knocked Down
-
Achy Break Heart.....and it was never good to start with...
Tronsky
-
Cocaine - Eric Clapton
Any Shania Twain song
-
Freebird. good song, but it's too damn long and I've heard it at too many funerals.
plus it's not even in their top 5.
-
Led Zeppelin. Most over-rated band ever
I'm sorry, you're just wrong on that one.
But yes, overplayed everywhere.
Leo Kotke
Steve Goodman (live stuff)
John Prine
That's some of the stuff I wish was overplayed:D
-
I'm sorry, but he's right. They're by far the most over-rated band ever. EVER.
Most over-played song? It has, and always will be Stairway To Heaven. Sure it has a good melody, but it's not much of a song. It'd been beaten to death when the 1990's came around, and now it's just getting downright stupid.
The term "flogging a dead horse" couldn't possibly be used in a better context.

ahhhhh.... just moved you from my "tree hugin' dork" list to my "complete, and total moron list " which is made up of those that are mentally flawed in some way, and should leave the gene pool for the betterment of mankind.

I would have to say CCR as the most overplayed/barf inducing band of all time.
"Oh,when you wake up in the mornin..You hear the work bell ring"
Countless others too.
-
Anything by Evanescence.
-
Freebird was never a good song.... and it has been way overplayed.
Yes... Hotel California is an awesome song that has been created into something that you cant even listen to on a consiouse level anymore.... way over played.
I'll never forgive professional sports for ruining:
We are the Champions (queen)
Start me up (Stones)
Or the Ford motor company for killing:
Like a Rock (seger)

I respectfully disagree, since THE DOORS are the most overrated and overplayed band in history.

Don't go blaming a GM screwup on Ford.

I think the Clash is the most over-rated.
Not the most overplayed, but one that drives me freaking nutz is Dire Straights "Industrial Desease"
That fuggin song sucks and the worst part is the end......sounds like it will never end.

springstien has to be the most over rated band/musician ever. I've never heard anything from him that I would concider 'great', a lot of OK songs, not your favorites, but not so bad that you get up and change the station. how he gets all the hype he does is completely beyond me.

this has got to be the best version of that song-
http://www.bobrivers.com/audiovault/tunes/tunes.asp?Var=B&Page=2
3rd from the bottom
here's the lyrics-
Buy A Truck
(Parody of Like a Rock by Bob Seger)
Rock n' Rollin' sure is lots of fun
I’m makin’ millions when my songs go number one
But auto dealers can barely get along
Business sucks
If you’ve got eighteen or twenty grand to spare
Well, tighten up those lug nuts
And fill up your tires with air
Get tinted windows and mud-flaps in the rear
To drive through muck
The dealer's ready, so drive one home tonight
You’ll love your purchase and how it hugs the corners tight
We fixed the problem so the gas tanks won’t ignite
Buy a truck
Buy A Truck
Keep this country great
Buy a truck
Get a big rebate
Buy a truck
You’ll probably get laid if you
Buy a truck
Buy a truck
A 4-wheel drive S-10
Buy a truck
Prove that you’re a man
They don't make 'em in Japan
Buy a truck
Please buy a truck
Please buy a truck

Yes, he pretty much has a bunch of mediocre songs.
Same with Phil Collins.....complete load of crappy songs.

Black Eyed Peas-Shutup

-
Christmas songs. All of 'em.
-
Chariots of Fire.
I actually went out and bought the album when the movie came out because I found the song inspiring.
But after hearing it over 100,000 times I switch the channel. Notice I said channel as it is always on TV and in the background of some sappy crap like a wheelchair race or some doped up athlete winning the olympics.

Hell live in Alabama and listen to a "classic rock station". Number one they rarely play Led Zeppelin unless it is Stairway to Heaven and they play to friggin much Charlie Daniels Band and Skynard...Between Freebird, Sweet Home Alabama, and anything from Charlie Daniels you don't hear anything else aside from a little Metallica like Nothing Else Matters or One.
BTW my definition of Classic Rock hasn't changed from the late '80s. Anything from the 80's and up should never be considered "classic rock". Thats why stations started an 80's format not long ago for all those one hit wonders.
-
A lot of oldies...guess that reflects age..heres something from a 21 year old:
Beyonce & Jay-Z "Me and my Girlfriend"
ATP (I think?) "Kisses of the Sun" (that one where the girl goes lalalala, it goes around the world)
Any of those American Idol creeps. That show is freaking evil.
