Where would America be without liberals to fight our battles? We'd probably be speaking Vietnamese right now if we had to depend on conservatives.
Shall we look at the facts? Or will that scare you neocons?
Liberals:
George McGovern -- DFC
JFK -- Just a plain old war hero-- US Navy
Gen. Wesley Clark -- US Army
Gray Davis -- Bronze Star Vietnam
Fritz Hollings -- Bronze Star WWII
Sen Jack Reed -- Ranger
Tom Harkin -- US Navy
Ted Kennedy -- US Army
Max Cleland -- Silver and Bronze Star Vietnam
Charles Rangel -- Bronze Star Korea
John Kerry -- Silver and Bronze Star
Bob Kerrey -- Medal of Honor
Al Gore -- US Army Vietnam
Tom Daschle -- USAF
I'll stop the list here. I can post more if you'd like.
Conservatives:
George W. Bush -- AWOL in time of war
Dick Cheney -- draft dodger
Karl Rove -- draft dodger
Donald Rumsfeld -- US Navy
Paul Wolfowitz -- draft dodger
Bill Bennet -- draft dodger
Newt Gingrich -- draft dodger
Sean Hannity -- draft dodger
Rushbo -- draft dodger
Michael Savage -- draft dodger
Michael Reagan -- draft dodger
Richard Perle -- draft dodger
Jeb Bush -- draft dodger
Bob Dornan -- draft dodger
Saxby Chambliss -- draft dodger
Tom DeLay -- draft dodger
Dennis Hastert -- draft dodger
Trent Lott -- draft dodger
Phil Gramm -- draft dodger
Chuck Hagel -- Bronze Star, Purple Heart
Duke Cunningham -- Navy Cross
to two good Republicans
You conservatives talk a good game, but when it is on the line for America, it's the liberals that respond.

I would just like to point out that it was liberals who caused us to lose Vietnam. But greentail wants to have some fun, so I'll let him.

In what way? For example, exactly in what way was George McGovern wrong on Vietnam?

Wow, you feel you F'in proud that JFK is on your stupid list for the "Liberals"?!
I see your JFK and raise you Ronald Reagan (Army), Gerald Ford (Navy), Ike (Army) and George Herbert Walker Bush (Navy). I'm tired or I'd post more.

Funny you would chose to bring up Vietnam in your argument, since it was the Democrats that got us into that war.

Excellent point. Well said, dittohead.
I must admit, I forgot a couple of Republicans.
Dwight Eisenhower, Bob Dole, both good old fashioned conservatives. True conseratives, unlike the corporate brainwashed neocons of today.
And George H.W. Bush served his country well in the South Pacific.
As did Gus Hall. Four years in the US Navy in WWII. How emabarrasing! The US's top Commie has a better service record than the entire present day administration combined!!!
Answer that "conservatives"!

Ronald Reagan made movies. That's a far cry from McGovern's DFC, don't you think?.
Even with Ike and Ford, and Bush you're still behind. Besides, as pointed out in another post, they were old school consevatives, who backed America, not shills for the multi-nationals.
-
Greentail, more power to you on your list....but it's funny.
You list a lot of "draft dodgers" yet fail to mention Clinton?
What about Michael Savage? He's not even a conservative.
How old is Sean Hannity and what draft did he dodge?
Carry on.

Nixon was not wrong about Vietnam. He just took too long to get the troops home.
Do you remember the '72 campaign. McGovern wanted to bring the troops home immediately. Nixon said it couldn't be done. After the election, however, he did just that.
And yes, the Democrats got us into that mess. No doubt. But that is sort of the point. The so-called "conservatives" are always trash talking the Dems on defense. The facts speak against that. But then, facts don't seem important anymore to most folks.

Why don't you take your own advice and edit your list then? Seems like facts didn't matter to you very much when you posted the list.

Savage is not conservative? Actually, I don't think he is, but that is how he is IDed.
Hannity dodged Vietnam, I bleive.
As for Clinton, I think we must make a distinction here.
Clinton was a draft evader, yes. But he was actively against the war.
The Republicans on this list were all for the war, as long as it was someone else's butt doing the fighting.
There is a difference.

"Anyone who is under 30 and not a liberal has no heart. Anyone who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brain."--Winston Churchill.
U.S. Grant led the Union to victory, but proved to be a crappy president.
Lincoln, on the other hand, is widely acknowledged as one of our greatest leaders, and yet, for some odd reason, you just don't hear too much about his service record.
The fact is, there is no definite correlation between having been shot at, and successfully leading a nation. The reason there's any correlation at all is because men with military records often find it easier to transition into public office thanks in part to the inherent trust a positive service record provides in the public eye.
"All-American athlete, faithful servant during war, husband, father...Elect 'whomever' for 'whatever'.... It's a cookie-cutter approach to things but has proven to work--at least as far as getting them into office. Still doesn't mean a damned thing. I wouldn't trust Ted Kennedy with a plastic spoon.
What really sucks is that I'm fasting right now for a blood test tomorrow afternoon. HUngry as hell and can't sleep.

Where was all this left wing love and adoration for military service, especially during Vietnam it seems, in 1992 and 1996?
Or were you just trying to illustrate hypocrisy for us?
But of course there is your ridiculus reasoning..
"Clinton was a draft evader, yes. But he was actively against the war."
Nice, people whose politics you dont like who get legal defferements are "draft dodgers" - a higly specfic and inflammatory term but Clinton, whoose politics you do agree with who got a legal defferment gets the vague term "draft evader.."
Nice BS and hypocrisy...
Anyone can draw up a list of people from the two parties who both did and did not serve in the military. Simply juxtaposing these selective lists to make some idiotic point is meaningless, but you know that...
Damn I'm sure I just wasted 30 seconds of my life responding to this dumb post...

3-A deferment is considered Draft dodging?
I seem to remember everyone eligible for the draft trying to get a 3-a deferment but what do I know I was only alive then...
Your spin is just that spin..... Go canvas some more cemetaries, if you start now you can really influence the next election because Mccain is going to win regardless of who you back for the dem party...
Nice Troll though!

But if he did say it, it would actually be the opposite in England during the 40's and 50's, right? I just want to understand better because the Democrat "left" party of the 1950's has significantly changed, however I might add so has the Republican right party, as now it seems in the 21st century that spending and big Gov't is making a strong comeback in the form of a Rupublican.

You know looking at the picture I have to wonder how smart the guy that took it is.
It is supposed to look like a steak cooking on a grill. Probably for some advertising. However there is no smoke at all and the grill is spotless. Also the grill marks on the steak are much closer together than the grill is.
Why doesn't he just used a plastic steak. Would look about as real.

Man, you ARE tired if you put Reagan on that list!! He never even served- he got a deferrment in 1942 cause he had a wife and kids, and in 1943 he seperated from his first wife and filed for divorce.. In fact Reagan was one of the few able bodied American Hollywood actors who didn't serve, and, in fact, his acting career took off during the War.

He served PRIOR to the War, acted. After Pearl Harbor, he reenlisted after he passed his second eye exam. He wanted to go overseas but couldn't. He served. NEXT!

Some people just never get life.
"Several years after graduating from college and while employed as a sports announcer by a radio station in Iowa, Ronald Reagan began taking home-study U.S. Army Extension Courses. He enrolled in the program on Mar. 18, 1935 and by Dec. 1936, had completed 14 courses. He then joined the Army's Enlisted Reserve Corps at Des Moines, Iowa on April 29, 1937 as a private in Troop B, 322d Cavalry. On May 25, 1937 he was appointed a second lieutenant in the Officers' Reserve Corps of the Cavalry and on June 18, 1937, he accepted his officer's commission.
Following the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, Lt. Reagan interrupted his acting career and on April 19, 1942, went on active duty. This was not achieved without some difficulty because when Lt. Reagan took his first physical exam, he was not accepted for active duty due to eyesight difficulties. His persistence finally triumphed and he was given another exam which he passed. However, he was classified for limited service only, which permanently denied to him his ambition of serving overseas. His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation, Fort Mason, Cal., as Liaison Officer of the Port and Transportation Office. "
You did it to yourself.

He made training films, Karaya- he served in the Army Air Corps Motion Picture Division, stationed in Culver City. This allowed him to continue making "civilian" motion pictures.
Seriously, I saw a Bio about a month ago which stated he applied for a marriage deferrment in 1942, and filed for divorce in 1943- but the bios on Google show this not to be correct, and state his divorce was final in 1948.
So- I concede, I was mistaken and you are correct...
OK?

It has been established that W. was NOT AWOL. Dan Rather even apologized for it.
Ted Kennedy was drafted, spent his two years stateside. Not exactly a war hero.
Sean Hannity is WAY WAY too young to ever have been drafted. I'm 50, and the draft ended in 1972, a year before I became eligible.
Those are the only three I bothered to check on, and you got them all wrong. I think you need to look carefully at your "facts", my boy...
