I'm just bored.....but here are some that popped into my head.

Devo's "Satisfaction"

Toad the Wet Sproket's "Hey Bulldog"

Eva Cassidy's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

George Thorogood's "Move it On Over"

Rolling Stones "Not Fade Away"

Beatles "Michelle" - I don't think they were the first to write it/perform it?

Naw Beetle, Michelle is a McCartney original. I love the recording....it sounds so "pure"....the acoustic guitars sound about as good as can be recorded imho.

That's a really good one Steve.....not many remakes can seem so clearly better than the original, other than remakes of Bob Dylan tunes.

Hmm, I wasn't sure... but one of their hits from that era was not an original. If not Michelle, maybe Yesterday?

Yesterday is another McCartney song.

The Beatles did covers on some of the very early albums.

Some I know: Rollover Beethoven, Hey Hey Hey Hey ( Kansas City), Rock "n Roll Music, Twist And Shout.

OK NUKE - you're the Beatles expert; I won't argue with you. :aok

How about some remake c**k ups? The Beatles' song "With a Little Help from my Friends" was ruined - by Joe C**kup

And "Spirit in the Sky" (Norman Greenbaum) was ruined by Wet Wet Wet.

Nirvana had the highest concentration of GREAT covers in one live session and probably of any album I have heard.

Nirvana Unplugged in NY is a must have album IMHO.

Covers: The Man Who Sold The World, On A Plane, Plateau, Lake of Fire.

That Album is a great one.

Nah.

The Who's "Acid Queen" was an OK song. Then they had Tina Turner do it for the movie Tommy.

Reduced the Who (my all-time fave band) to just four skinny white kids.

Oh man. There are so many.

I liked Word Up by korn. But I dont think I'd call it the best tho.

There was a remake of Love Shack. Damned if I can remember the name of the group who did it. But when I hear it in the car, the gas peddle hits the floor and the stereo goes to max. :D

I really like it. 8)

The Circle Jerks do a great cover of "Put a little love in your heart"

Also, Social Distortion's cover of "Ring of Fire"

Any of the Covers that Johnny Cash's cover's from the American Recordings. In fact, I would say that Cash's cover of "Hurt" is my my all time favorite, though I didn't care for the original, so it might not be on point.

Here's a few..

Carol King "You've got a Friend"

I hear a cover version of the song "Drift Away" (early version was by Doby Grey) but I'm not sure who does it.

UB40 - "I got you babe"

Richie Havens - "Here comes the Sun"

...

Oh - can you guess the namer of the song that is the most covered in history? (easy and my last entry is a hint)
