when i save it to AVI whats the codecs i need to use so windows media player and windows movie editor can use it?

as far as i know, DivX is the best.

Doen't use a codec befor you edit your movie. If you do and then try to edit it might mess up you movie. Only use a codec after you done editing your movie. If you exporting you movie to edit it in WMM then do it uncompresed. That way your clips are not compressed and then compressed again after your done with your movie.

The most common CODEC in Windows is the "Cinepak by Radius" (practically every version of Windows shipped has that CODEC available), but there are better ones. The other popular one in Windows is the Intel Indeo CODEC's.
Not everyone has DiVX as it is not part of Windows.
