The Danish Center for Research Analysis lists Norway in last place in most of the parameters in its latest report on research in the region, Forskerforum reports.

Norwegian researchers are least quoted in international journals, Norway has the lowest state and industrial research effort, the fewest number of people working in the field, the fewest doctorates and the fewest patents.

Anyone else find this interesting? Oil is their main income and after the oil is gone in about 20 years, they may have to learn to work to support their welfare state. It may take time, but I am sure they will be okay.

Why is Norway news considered "obscure" ? Just being open minded and all.

easily missed as obviously the local news has been full of the fact that your research status is ....um waning - bet that is the first time some people ever used that word!! - you may have to fight the Scots for it but since your lot invaded Shetland in the first place my money's on the Vikings.

Sadly, the oil find has nothing to do with Norway or it's waning research capacity.

I have that remote so just thought id share it with you all. :)

Im not worried about the article at all tho. These things varies from year to year and who is in the goverment. Its nice tho that our closest neigbours are even better than us when it comes to research.
